Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Pardon my ignorance but the set screw is where now?
  2. You step to the line and on the "load and make ready" command, insert a magazine, rack the slide, and out pops a snap cap. Would this result in a DQ? I ask because the gun should not be loaded at any time, and even though it's a snap cap, if you're handling the gun in a safe zone you cannot handle any ammunition, even snap caps. Would chambering your first round after having to eject a snap cap be considered having a loaded gun before the LAMR command?
  3. Thanks for the heads up guys. I'm down to 300 primers and I'm getting desperate.
  4. Ok I ordered 15k Winchester SP primers from Grafs over 2 months ago and I still haven't gotten a word on when they will be shipped. How are you guys placing orders to Wideners?? Everything I'm seeing is out of stock and I can't place a backorder!
  5. how hard is it to replace the extractor on an M&P?
  6. Assuming I'm shooting minor loads, (around 130-135 pf) how many rounds will an M&P last before I should consider a new competition gun? I'm talking about the firearm as a whole. I've got just over 2k rounds through it, so I'm due for a recoil spring change. If I maintain it well, as I do, what is the realistic service life? 10k? 100k?
  7. . Come on don't leave us hanging... Yours or his? Haha I remember watching a fellow NAIL his chrono at the range one time with his new hunting rifle. Apparently he forgot that the bore is actually a few inches LOWER than the scope itself is. Congrats on the first reloads! It's a very satisfying feeling shooting rounds you made yourself. Show off to your friends. Make sure to rub in their face how much you pay for ammo compared to them.
  8. Haha I keep the primers and powder stored in my room. I just don't have any space for my bench set-up. So just regular gun oil will work?
  9. As much as I'd LOVE to shoot only jacketed..... The fact is I found I could save $100 per 3,000 bullets just by switching to Precision Moly's from MG jacketed. I figure with the amount I try to shoot, the savings is WELL worth it.
  10. I've been loading on my 550 for about a month now, and I've started to worry about my press being left in my garage. I'm still in school so I live with my parents during the summer. Until I move back into my apartment in August, the press has to be kept in the garage. I'm worried that the hot, humid Mississippi summer is going to hurt my investment. What can I do to prevent rust from occurring? I tried a search on something like this, and couldn't find anything. Thanks in advance for the help, gents.
  11. You guys are a Godsend. My 550 just started doing this. I'm gonna try these remedies. Thanks fellas!
  12. I feel like I should post from the receiving end of this argument. I recently shot my first match and I was still learning all the motions on what to do in between shooters. Everyone else there is a regular, so they knew what to do without being told (and they got to it so fast, I often didn't have time to grab pasters and get to work). One of the regulars pulled me aside and POLITELY told me what to do in order to keep our squad moving. I greatly appreciated the gesture of him pulling me aside rather than calling me out. Keep this in mind whenever you see someone obviously struggling (new shooters). They may not be intentionally loafing!!
  13. That makes me feel a little better. Just like you said, I noticed I don't have as much strength in my index finger, but I'm quickly getting used to it. I also realized that this would be an additional safeguard against having my finger on the trigger during reloads, since I'll be using it to drop the mag. I'm actually slightly faster on my reloads in just a few minutes of practicing. Are there any more tips? Or warnings against using this method?
  14. Does anyone else do this? I thought I'd give it a shot since I have small hands and have to actually change my grip when it comes time to reload because it's so hard to reach the magazine release with my thumb.
