  4. Hey, even I built one this summer and I can't build anything. I did a lot of research, asked questions of friends who build and shoot and jumped in. I bought a book I didn't like and a dvd that really helped from Brownells. I also purchased the AR assembly kit from Brownells and borrowed a torque wrench from Auto Zone. If you have the pivot pin on the lower assembled, you can build it. The hardest part for me was the trigger. Have fun and good luck, George
  5. Hey Frederico, Welcome to the Forum. Lots of good stuff and good people here. George
  6. Add eye protection and a couple of bottles of water and you seem good to go. Oh yeah, ammunition. About twice as much as you think you will need. Now go have fun. George
  7. IDPA, USPSA, IPSC, MULTI-GUN, etc. are all games. Competition. You can tell they are competitive games because they keep score. I really enjoy them and have for several years now, but they are not self defense training, etc. You will learn to shoot safely, to shoot under pressure, and have a great time. There are a ton of people who teach self defense training, proper technique, and how to do better at these games. I think you will have a lot of fun as long as you take them for what they are. AND, take your equipment with you when you go to watch. my $.02, George
  8. I would guess it is the crimp. I have a buddy who had that problem with his Kimber. It was even having problems with factory ammo and we ended up re-crimping the factory stuff too. thanks, George
  9. Welcome to the forum. This is a great place to expand on just about anything. George
  10. Who would I contact for Vendor information for the match? Thanks, George
  11. Welcome to the forum. I have never shot SASS, but USPSA and Multi-gun are a major blast. Jump in and give it a try. George
  12. Congratulations on getting the exercise program going. I know how hard it can be. I am starting to ride my bicycle in the morning to build up some leg strength. Keep it up! George
  13. I don't know. I carried a 1911 for years and then started shooting some IDPA and purchased a Springfield XD 9mm to compete with. Nice gun... After quite some time I went to the range to practice with my carry gun ( 1911 ) I found myself not using the thumb safety when I drew the gun. I sold the XD the next week and bought a 9mm 1911 style. I am not sure it is muscle memory. I think it is habit. You will revert back to what you have practiced with. Carrying in the same place on your body is also important for the same reason. If it hits the fan you are going to reach for what you have practiced. thanks, George
  14. Welcome, and when you are looking for equipment check out the classified section. George
  15. When I switched to hollow points (MG) I didn't change anything and that was 10,000 or so back. No problems on my end. George
  16. Welcome. Lots of matches in your area. George
  17. I have one I have had for a couple of years. I have tried several brands of ammo and the Remington Thunderbolt ammo works best so far. I live out in the country so a variety of ammo is hard to come by. I have one metal mag ( came with conversion kit ) and one plastic one and the metal is far better. I bought the plastic one later than the kit and I called when it arrived and was not metal. The lady said all I could get was plastic. I can't get decent accuracy out of mine which could be ammo. With that and the failure to feed it is only good for some plinking. I had hoped to use it for steel matches but thats out of the question. thanks, George
  18. Welcome aboard. Sending a PM. George
  19. We were there last year and had a great time. Keep your vehicle handy, you will need it. Also plan on 3-4 times as much water as you were thinking about unless you are from that area. The wind and the sun will dry you out. Also be prepared to meet some of the nicest people in the world. thanks, George
