  1. Wecome to the forum and welcome back to shooting. George
  2. I started out with a Square Deal B and really enjoyed learning to reload with it. After about a year I sold it and moved to a XL650. The best thing I had going was a buddy who came out and helped me set up the SDB and was there to answer questions. I wish I had kept the SDB for those odd times when I want to reload just a few rounds of what I am not set up for in the 650. thanks, George
  3. Read this topic and just ordered mine. 1/2 price is good. George
  4. I just installed mine and shot one match. It is a learning experience. At this point I like it as I have small hands and took the GoGun and cut it back so I can move it to the rear and still remove the slide stop. At this point I think it gives me better recovery for the 2nd shot. thanks, George
  5. Welcome to the forum. Lots and lots of good information here. George
  6. Welcome to the forum. Heck of a deal on the SDB. George

  9. Welcome to the forum. If you get your Christmas 550, keep the SDB. You will find a lot of uses for it. George

    Hello

Welcome to the Forum. Lots and lots of information here, enjoy. George
  11. Welcome to the Forum. Thanks for your service and stay safe. George
  12. Welcome. There is a lot of time and fun left. I started shooting IDPA when I was 62 and USPSA when I was 65. I have a lot of fun shooting both. I have never built a home range but I prefer short grass over gravel. Easier for me to walk on and a lot easier to find my brass. Good luck, George
  13. Try drawing in slow motion and just getting a sight picture for a few reps. Then dry fire the draw, sight picture, and pulling the trigger, again in slow motion. If you are feeling comfortable with the dry fire, then move to live ammo, but again in slow motion. Once you are getting comfortable ( and getting your hits ) then speed up. This has worked for me, maybe it will work for you. Good luck. George
  14. I try to find some grips that are just a little too small, then add grip tape or skateboard tape all the way around. I put a set of the rubberized finger grove grips on a house gun and the first thing I noticed was that it did not feel right. Find something you like and then stick with it. Grip tape on the outside grip only on carry guns...trust me. George
  15. Welcome and greetings from Texas. Start shooting IDPA or whatever organized shooting sport and take your son with you. You and he will be exposed to some of the greatest people you could ever hope to meet. Good luck, stay safe, and have fun. George
  16. I have owned a loaded Springfield 9mm and it was a good gun. I had mag problems but there have been a lot of new players added to the field since then ( 5 years ago). Today I would buy a Spartan based on what I have read and experienced. thanks, George
  17. I am with G-manBart. 14#, maybe a 16# recoil spring if you have to and a clean the extractor tunnel. Lube it up and you should be good to go. I have seen lack of crimp cause the problem, but it was my buddy shooting factory Blazer Brass. We had to re crimp every thing he had. thanks, George
  18. I bought the Dillon powder checker, thought I had to have it. For me it turned out to be more trouble than it's worth. I am not in a big hurry and look in each case anyway, so I took it off. Now I just have an extra space. thanks, George
  19. Welcome, and I see you already have found the addiction. Check the tension on your shellplate on the XL650 to make sure it is tight enough. Mine will get loose once in awhile and the OAL and primer seating depth both suffer. George
  20. I got really lucky and picked up a custom .38 Super used at a very low price for my first open gun. I didn't realize what a good deal I got until after I shot it and looked around at what the others had and what they paid. I really like mine, but for a lot of people the first open gun is like the first bass boat, the first motorcycle, etc. The first one tells you what you want in the next one. I would suggest a used open gun to find out what you really want before you put a lot of money into it. Probably if I shot better I would want another one, but right now this one works for me. My buddy has a Trubor in 9 major and loves it. It runs and runs and runs. thanks, George
  21. Welcome to the forum. It is a nasty illness and will take over everything you do. I don't know anything about your group, but shooters are the friendliest people on earth and will point you in the right direction. George
  22. My wife and I really enjoyed both the article and the pictures since we were also on that squad. Keep up the good shooting, articles, and pictures. George and Barbara
