Micah's Range Diary

Ammo problems are officially solved. No tumbles, no stovepipes, no 190pf...My load is a 100% functional 170pf.

Quazi battle tested today at the Miamisburg match without a hitch. My only problem was misreading the recoil impulse. On several targets I had dead center alphas accompanied by a mike. I need to be more patient with the recoil cycle as opposed to anticipating it as if I were shooting minor.

Back from the Ohio match. First, the positives:

-GO JAKE! Jake Martens beat me by 2.5% at this match, and he really earned it! I'm damn proud, and you should be too! Please sell that Glock to someone that will love it as much as I would ;)

-Gun ran 100%, and I chrono'd at a 177pf. Ammo issues are officially over

-The amazing range staff were...amazing! BIG thanks to all of those that busted their humps to make this match absolutely excellent!

Now, the grit.

Ever play that "trust" game? You know, the one where you cross your arms, close your eyes, and fall backwards into "hopefully" the arms of someone who will catch you? That's the one.

After watching my video, if my shooting were to cross it's arms, close it's eyes, and fall into the "hopeful" safe embrace of Micah...well, it wouldn't have. My shooting today had no confidence in Micah. Slow splits, lax transitions, wayyyyyyyyy too conservative.Watching my video was utterly painful.

Not sure if it was my divorce and move, cutting of my job at the end of the school year, new gun, ammo issues...none of that sh!t really matters. The only thing that matters is the scoreboard...and although one of the good guys won today, it wasn't me. I'm not okay with that. I'm better than that.

If you're lookin' for me, I'll be in my basement getting back to the fundamentals and learning how to have my shooting trust my embrace again.

It was a very good match, I really like the stages with lots of options, watching your video, we did not shoot many stages the same way and were very close with Kyle right there as well.

See you at Indiana Section

Really good match Micah. I'm glad the weather held out for you guys on Sunday. Saturday was a little warm and sticky but over all really nice shooting weather. Next time you need to try SS.

I am glad your gun ran. Don't change a thing! (Did any of my suggestions help?)

You shoot solid. And, you will get the confidence...now that the gun runs...from getting some lead down range and driving that sucker. (which I need to do too)

Yeah why didn't you shoot single stack division?

B/c he thought he had a better chance to win L-10 :P

I told him at the during the match, 2nd would still be Ohio State L10 Champ.

My plan was to shoot SS thru the nationals and then production, but I sold my production gun and decided to shoot L10 at Ohio, Double Tap, A5 and Indiana Section and move it and open to Master class, we shall see.

So far shooting 2nd run on classifiers with my limited gun in open is getting me closer, should have a 93% and a 86% on there next month.

Flex, your suggestions did help (obviously) as well as the perfected load data that we worked out. I really appreciate it bro!

If anyone is wondering, my load is a 200g moly bullet, 3.9g Titegroup loaded to a 1.155 oal. Chrono'd at 171 two weeks ago, and 177 at the Ohio match.

I shot L-10 because the HOA gun was a G22, and be being a Glock lover, could find some use for it. I have no use for a 45cal Spartan.

From my post about my last club match:

Quazi battle tested today at the Miamisburg match without a hitch. My only problem was misreading the recoil impulse. On several targets I had dead center alphas accompanied by a mike. I need to be more patient with the recoil cycle as opposed to anticipating it as if I were shooting minor.

This had me freaked out, and provoked me to shoot slower splits. Just one of the many errors that I made at the OH match.

Win a Glock?

Why did you choose to go with 200gr?

I screwed around with 200, 180 and 165 and settled on 165 with Tightgroup, I like the quick snap of the recoil. Load them out to only 1.15 max. I don't have a sinlge stack in 40 (yet)but in my Brazo's and Jim Anglin built gun with the quick snap feel the sights track great for me at least.

I am sticking with L10 thru Double Tap, A5 and IN Section, let's do this again.

I knew my points would hold up, wasn't sure about times. I was comparing myself to Limited and Open shooters on the squad and was hanging in there.

Going back and looking leads between Kyle, you and me changed at least 3 times and were within 9 points.

My biggest concern knowing that you and Kyle were in L10 were that you move faster, so I focused on points and didn't think about trying to push too much.

It was a fun match, and any little screw up between us would have changed the outcome.

Jake, that was my undoing! Being too deliberate with target engagement! Ahh well :) Can't wait to shoot with/against you again bro! You are on fire.

Side note...I'm not dead yet...just in difficult times. The last scrap of my divorce just ended...the selling of the house. Unfortunately we took a pretty big hit, and I need to come up with 2k before the end of the month to help pay for said loss. The end result is that I will have to sell my Trojan. I am NOT happy about this :( The only alternative is that I quit going to matches for a while...an alternative that I am not willing to choose. Look for my classifieds thread soon...it's a hell of a pistol with all the right parts and tons of accessories :)

The end result is that I am back in Production effective immediately. Spent a few hours the past few days dryfiring it and it feels like having drinks with an old friend that moved away. Putting the gun that I went from D to GM with feels nostalgic, empowering, invigorating! Maybe the 1911/2011 platform will reappear sometime in my future...but for the rest of the 2011 season it's back to the Plastic Fantastic.

Club matches this Saturday and Sunday, I have limited time to rekindle my love for the high aiming, light weight Glock before Area 5. I plan on making the most out of every second ;)

Thanks A/C! I spent another hour with my setup tonight...just about have the poa back to where I want it to be. The rest is transitioning in nicely...from the reloads to the table starts.

Have the Cville match tomorrow, which I am shooting with some groovy cats from Indiana, and then the Oxford match on Sunday. Should prove to be an excellent time to groove back in to the Prod game.

Had a groovy training session/match on Saturday, and another groovy match on Sunday in Oxford. Shooting the Glock is like riding a bicycle baby. Video coming eventually.

Transitions look a bit sluggish, and my splits on some o' that shiz need to be faster. The dropped mag/run backwards issue is solved now...just needed to tighten up my mag pouch.

Not much time before Area 5...and there is much to do until then.

Thanks OpenDot :) I have a large bit or refinement if I am going to bump off the other GMs at Area 5, but I am focused on the challenge.. And on a side note, I freaking love your sig line!

  • 2 weeks later...

So, you wouldn't know this unless we chat in person, but I lost my teaching job here in Dayton at the end of the school year. With massive budget cuts comes massive layoffs. Once I knew that I was going to be cut, I busted my hump to find a new job. Fortunately, I was able to secure a summer school job in a different district with the potential to move into a year-round practitioner/specialist role based on how well I rock during the summer. Needless to say, I will be at the absolute top of my teaching game!

Summer school doesn't start until Monday. The rub is that, (as I found out yesterday) there is a mandatory all department meeting this Friday. Why is that a bummer? It takes me out of Area 5 :( It looks like my next major will be Indiana State.

I was greatly looking forward to that match, and shooting it with an excellent squad. The situation is unfortunate, but I am exceptionally thankful for the opportunity to have the job that I went to grad school for. Best of luck to all of the competitors, and I'll catch ya on the range (sometime) soon :)

Gotta have employment Micah...work before pleasure. Sucks to say that but without the job you couldn't afford to do this hobby we love so much.

Chin up and march forward my friend.

Oh man, that makes two of us that had to back out of Area 5 due to pop up commitments. Sorry to hear that.

I grooved at the Warsaw match on Sunday and many things from EIS training came in play. Ended 2nd overall to a Master Open Shooter. I'll see you at Indiana State, take care brother!!
