FayettevilleFatKid
read the article in "Complete Book of the AR15" about the 10/22 practice rig Burkett recomends...wondering about the Butler Creek magazines...are the steel lips necessary or are the regular ones ok? FatKid btw any typo's are the fault of my 2 week old son i'm holding while typing...keeps kicking the laptop...trying to start him ight
smokshwn
The regular ones are ok but they will wear out. I have both and while the performance seems to be the same, it is obvious the steel ones will last longer. Good luck, Craig
FayettevilleFatKid
Thanks for the reply, that is exactly what I was wondering, as far as whether the steel was necessary for performance or if it was a longevity issue.
Hank Ellis
You can use the plastic ones but.... For reliability and longetivity I would go with the metal feed lips at a minimum. The best mag for the 10/22 out there is the factory mag. The 10/22 uses the forward edge of the feed lips as the ejector. Plastic can't hold up to the abuse. I've seen a plastic feed lip Butler Creek mag melted down by couple of young'uns and two bricks of ammo in an afternoon. Also, most aftermarket mags can't be disassembled for cleaning. If you go with factory mags you will want to tune them a bit. Every so often one will have a bit of flashing that needs to be removed. Cranking up the spring tension helps in the function also. 10/22 Rotory Mag Service The link in post 3 is broken but has been relocated here. Another mag service link. latewatch
Definitely get the steel lip magazines. They will give good service and will outlast the plastic lip mags hands down.

rugerdawg
The best hi-capacity 10/22 mags on this planet are made by tactical solutions. Aluminum, adjustable and bullet proof....but...expensive

Red_SC
FYI, Midway is having a Black Friday sale on the new Ruger magazines today only for 17.99. I ordered some.
jimmcc
I ran a Ruger 25 the other day and my bullets nose dived into the front of the magazine. I was shooting Federal Auto Match. I do have a tactical solutions plastic mag that has all of the features as the aluminum one but only cost $35. This is the only reliable mag I have found. AzShooter
I bought 3 of the new Ruger 25 round magazines and haven't had one problem yet. Very reliable in my 10-22. I"m sticking with them. Too bad I really don't need more or I'd order them from Midway tonight.
CmbtEngr
Just used a new Ruger 25 rounder mag yesterday. No problems (CCI mini-mags) and no worries with the steel lips.
