Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I wanted a vent rib barrel on my FN, but didn't want to pay for a Winchester SX3 barrel. The Browning Gold/Silver shotguns are nearly identical to the FN and SX3, but research here showed the barrels wouldn't work; however, an SX3 barrel would work on a Browning. I ordered a Browning Gold Evolve barrel for cheap from CDNN to try. Sure enough it's not a direct fit, but it's a very simple modification. Anyone with a mill should be able to make it work. This is what I received. Nope, that's not gonna work. The right side as shown below and the rear locking surface are at the same place, but the corner radius is smaller on the FN and the left side needed to be moved over nearly .125. I put it in the mill and indicated on the ramped portion. Using a 3/16 end mill, I cut the corner on one side and cut just under .125 off the other side. I dropped a shell in the chamber, and the bolt locked in perfectly. After. Works like a charm! It seems to have a little more recoil, but I haven't compared the gas port sizes yet. That could just be in my head. If you're looking to change up your FN without spending a fortune and know someone with a mill, it's a very easy modification. As always, your mileage may vary, don't make any modifications you're unsure of, and I'm not responsible if you blow your face off.
  2. Curious, how did this turn out? I'm contemplating a very similar build.
  3. It was a great match! They had an entire 5-bay range they built just in the past couple weeks, since the other side of the property was under water. It was NICE, and they had good stages. My RO was hard to get along with though.
  4. A mat,,I may need to borrow some ammo..Eddie, I am going to bring 226 rounds in case I have a miss And for those wondering, mwx40x40 did, in fact, have one miss. It was a good thing he brought that extra round.
  5. Great match, as always! I shot yesterday (poorly) but I had a great time. Thanks to all who put in time, effort, and donations to make this happen.
  6. I shoot a Tac30, and my buddy shoots a PST 1-4. The optical quality difference isn't significant; while we haven't specifically compared them, we haven't noticed a difference. I don't like the thin reticle and exposed turrets on his, and he doesn't like the capped turrets and thick reticle on mine- but I shoot mostly 3 gun, and he shoots mostly longer range. Sounds like you've made up your mind, but I'd second the suggestion to stick with a 1-4 or move up to a 1-6 rather than a 1.5-6.
  7. None turning plate with tab is a great design. No more 90 degree plates That one bit you good. Thanks to all for the great match, particularly the match administration and sponsors. This is definitely a can't-miss event, I'm looking forward to next year.
  8. I did it Saturday, I've been shooting Production but shot the last couple of matches in Single Stack. Shot my first match in Limited on Saturday, on one stage I shot the first array of 3 targets and planned to shoot the next 2 while running to the next shooting position. Sure enough, I dropped the mag after target 4 even though there was another target beside it. Fortunately the run was long enough that it didn't cost me much time at all.
  9. I forgot why I didn't buy Federals, and picked up 2 bricks the other day.

    Texting

I don't like talking on a phone. I'd rather send a quick text, get a response, and be done than have to have a five minute conversation. Edited to add: I don't have conversations via text though, that's just silly.
  11. My 3yo is a machine, he can run a press removing Glock bulges as fast as I can run the Dillon 550. This was his first time. His 5yo big brother, though...
  12. I still shoot or practice with a single stack with no mag well occasionally, it makes anything else feel like it sucks the mags in.
  13. I have a Surefire G2 in a drawer somewhere that's only been used for about 2 seconds. I bought it back before LED's became standard specifically for a handgun class that involved night fire. Illuminated the first target with the back of my hands pressed together and pulled the trigger, and the bulb died. I borrowed a light for the rest of the class, and called Surefire the next day. Customer support was nice enough, promised a replacement bulb assembly, but never shipped one. I reminded them several months later, never saw it. I keep intending to buy a LED conversion head for it, but it's still sitting in a drawer.
  14. I'm about to start loading .40 for an STI as well. What is the difference between these two items? http://www.midwayusa.com/product/231187/redding-g-rx-carbide-base-sizing-die-kit-40-s-and-w-357-sig-10mm-auto?productnumber=231187 http://www.midwayusa.com/product/358543/redding-g-rx-base-sizing-die-kit-40-s-and-w-357-sig-10mm-auto I've seen several references to the Redding being twice the price of the Lee, so I assume most are using the top item. The bottom item is about the same cost as a Lee, though, and appears to have the same functionality. Am I missing something? n/m, I see it now. Top is carbide, bottom is not.
  15. I shoot Berger 130gr hunting VLD's in a .260 for matches and hunting, they work very well for both.
