balmo
I am still on the fence which type of magwell to choose from. Are game-type magwells (Dawson Ice, Techwell, Infinity) leaps and bounds faster than regular magwells? (SA, Ed Brown) If the significance is great, I'll get a Dawson. If it is not too much, I'll get an Ed Brown. I do like the look of a regular magwell. Does magwell even come into play for a C-class shooter? Your opinion between the two types of magwell is greatly appreciated, thanks!
RJH
Yes, it does matter. I shot with an S&A type for a long time and liked it, then happened into a techwell and there is a considerable difference. In single stack reloading is a big part of the game so give yourself all the advantage you can. I haven't tried the dawson but imagine it is comparable to the techwell. mach1soldier
I am all for the Dawson. Big and easy.
TimH
Dawson ICE for me. I've tried them all. My backup still has a techwell on it. But I'm sold on the ICE
hiker88
I have both S&A and Dawson magwells on my SS guns. The Dawson is quick and awesome
Mike21STI
I had the dawson on my single stack. It's worth it. You can be a little more sloppy and still hit a good reload, plus the wrap around magwell creates a good spot for the support hand to rest on. Butterpuc
I use the Techwell TGO, I really like having the front of the magwell open.
dsa
I use the Techwell TGO, I really like having the front of the magwell open. +
JayDee
I just upgraded both my SS pistols to dawson ice. I, too, am in C class. With a bunch of reloads in a stage, less fumbles means better hit factors. I'll be selling the std magwells soon.
LilBunniFuFu
I might be the odd man out but I prefer the classic style. I have fairly large hands and larger magwells cant my hand weirdly and messes with my strong hand grip.
balmo
Thanks guys! I really like the classic style magwell but my 1911 will only see day when it's going to a uspsa match.... ...so dawson ice it is!
2MoreChains
I've run both and currently have both. The S&A style IMO is just as fast as the Techwell / Dawson magwells but I think where the big mouth ones give you an advantage is they are a little more forgiving of a sloppy reload. But if you stick the reload then the difference is not as great.
Rob01
Dawson ICE magwells on both my Trojan .40 and 9mm. Excellent magwell and really helps the load.
Bob DuBois
Guess I'm old school too but like Ed Brown's mag well. Brown's mag well will require fitting which can take some time but like to pull down on the nose of the magazine to be sure it's seated before holstering the pistol at the start of a stage. Seems easier with the Ed Brown style mag well. Also like Brown's extended magazine release. Have a Spartan with a Teck Well easier to fit but less selection on grips. jcc7x7
Less your skill set is the more advantage the mag well is. Practice is more cost effective than parts, though!
Bluemooncricket
The Techwell SP works well for me and I love the AlumaGrips. Also, installation couldn't be simpler. Solid product.
