G17fan
With the powder shortage everywhere I am going to start venturing away from VITH and migrate towards something easier to get. What would you recommend for 1911 shooting Single Stack major? I know of WIN231, WST, N320 but that's it. What else is a good powder? Thanks all! bikerburgess
I think Clays is the best powder for 45acp. I don't think that will help with the supply situation as I believe the factory is shut down for a while due to a fire. n2ipsc
45's usually my "use up the odds and ends" ctg. - I've used Bullseye, Red Dot, N320, AA2, AA5, Unique, 7625, Clays, Universal, and probably at least a couple I'm forgetting for major loads... Steve RA
Clays, if you can find some.
wgj3
Promo works as well, similar energy/weight as Red Dot, but different density. I think Blue Dot too.
caspian guy
I have always had good luck with WST.
orangeman711
I've used Nitro 100 for the last 18yrs. in both my P-14 and my S/S. Start at 4.0Grs. and work from there. Good Luck.
bowenbuilt
e3, Clay Dots and Ramshot Competition works really well in .45 along with what has already been mentioned. Edited April 5, 2014 by bowenbuilt
Guest
Clay Dot (suppose to be the same as Clays), 700x, Solo1000. Lots of shotgun powders work well in the .45.
mississaugagunnut
I've used Clays and Bullseye. I prefer Clays but as stated above, good luck finding any.
z40acp
I have always used WST. What powders are available in your area? Ask the shotgun shooters at your club where they buy powder? A lot of the 12 gauge shotgun powders can be used for .45 acp loads. Edited April 5, 2014 by z40acp
glynnm45
Right now I'm in the same boat as far as finding a substitute powder and I have come up with a short list of powders I have used. First off Clay's is one I seek out, but can't find 2. Unique 3. Red Dot 4. Green Dot 5. Trailboss I've used all of these with marginal to excellent results. Kinda really like Green Dot. open17
Solo 1000. Darned stuff actually shoots softer than Clays.

G17fan
Ok thanks everyone! now just trying to locate any of these... might need to stop shooting for a while if I cant find anything soon.
Jaxshooter
I have always used Clays in 45 ACP. Have not found anything that works better. If any trap and skeet clubs in your area stock reloading supplies try them for Clays it is one of the most popular shotgun powders.

ltdmstr
ammoseek.com is a good resource for locating ammo and reloading components.
G17fan
Thanks. Ammoseek didn't render any results for powder. Anyone have an "abundance" of powder that they would be willing to part with? Ramshot Silhouette VITH N310 or N320 WIN231 WIN WST Or any other 45 powder.... Doesn't hurt to ask... ? G17fan
Anyone use RAMSHOT Competition or Trail Boss for 45ACP? Edited April 6, 2014 by G17fan
jluther820
Clays is my go to. Solo was fine but my last can had a lot of strange particles in it, like it was the end of the batch and I got all the stuff off the factory floor. Anyway trail boss is also quite nice and Very Clean... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Blankenhole
I have used 700x, 800x, PB, Power Pistol, and Blue Dot. Haven't had the chance to try anything else.700x or PP is my favorites. Just got some PB though so that might change when I get to the range this thursday.
G17fan
Ok. What do you use for the following for Major PF in 45 ACP: Clays Unique Bullseye I ask as I have looked and seen a slightly different starting load. Thanks.
