something else cool about the show....

My son (7) and a friend (12) were playing in the backyard last week.

They asked me to come out and "have ourselves a friendly shoot out" (they used the Colby accent).

We set up Cans and shot Airsoft Pistol, then shot Bullseyes with a Red Ryder, Shot Suction Cup Bow and Arrow, then Water Bottles with a ColdSteel Blowgun, and then threw DARTS.

We kept score and I had to stand shoot 2 or 3 times their distance :)

It was fun.

The commentary was the best.

"All over the place with the ColdSteel blowgun!!"

I always thought the gun grabbers were gonna be the end of the shooting sports. Never thought it'd be our own elitist additude. :(

+1 exactly.

Any positive depiction of the shooting sports on TV will "help our cause". (1)

People are angry because "it not an exact TV show of _my_ sport"... c'mon it's just entertainment, don't take it too seriously.

Without shows like TopShot, the only time the average person sees a gun in TV is going to be in a negative context.

1: Outdoor Network shows doesn't count, only people who watch that are _already_ shooters.

I agree totally. Yeah , it's got it's flaws and for real competition shooters a lot of it is pretty lame but IT SHOWS SHOOTING IN A POSITIVE LIGHT. We can't get enough of that.

Could not agree more.

Look at Mythbusters - based in one of the most anti-gun areas of the USA: the bay area (my former home). They featured a cameo by our president.

And? - they PROMOTE gun ownership by showing guns in a positive light. Folks, these programs are just the kind of thing we NEED, even if you are not personally a fan or don't like the format.

Personally, I like the USPSA "format" best, but I support shows that support our national interests.

It doesn't have bad ratings

http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2012/04/18/tuesday-cable-ratings-deadliest-catch-nba-basketball-the-game-16-and-pregnant-real-housewives-oc-hardcore-pawn-more/129618/

But I have to imagine that it isn't the cheapest show to produce.

So the "Bang for the buck" (pun intended) probably isn't as good as a show like Pawn Stars

I also think Top Shot did a lot of good for the shooting sports.

The only beef I had with the show was the last couple of seasons casting. Most of the people on the show admitted to never shooting a competition before going on the show. I think it ruins the idea of the show "TOP SHOT" when you have a participant of the show admit he is just a plain ole' knife maker. The first couple of seasons were better because you had people that were competitors going head to head with weapons that put them out of their comfort zone. We already knew they could perform great under pressure, but could they adapt their basic marksmanship skills to new weapons. In my opinion the first season was the best.

I thought I would post a photo of Colby so we can remember him in all his glory. I'm guessing from here on out you'll only see him at the binoculars counter at the Bass Pro Shop near you......

You mean like the "plain old IT guy" who won this year and who aced some competition against experienced military and police shooters?

I have to admit, I get a bit ticked off when things like blow guns and rock throwing show up, but this whole show has repeatedly shown that people who have a good general ability can outshoot specialists. The very last stage of the final is a case in point - a "world champion" lost to a geek with a weapon that he is supposed to be a specialist with.

Remember, this show is all about finding the person who can adapt to any weapon and win.

Three out of four who have won, IT guy, ex Marine but listed as a recreational shooter and a Church Youth Minister. Graham Smith is correct adapt and also control your nerves. I hope they keep the show, my family and friends all watch it. I do think they should change the name because throwing a spear, rock, knife or ax, that's not shooting. You shoot a rifle, pistol, cross bow, cannon and bow (etc).

The loss of any shooting show, is just that...a loss

Good or not so good, in general it was a plus for the shooting world

i will miss it

Jim

Well said especially one on the History Channel. Just a wild a$$ guess but this has probably been the most mainstream largest audience Competitve Shooting show to date. Who on this forum or in competitve shooting sports would want that to stop?

I don't necessarily want the show to stop but I sure wish it and the other non history shows were moved off the History Channel so that channel can return to what it is suppose to be. Right now with a large amount of its current programing it is a joke with regards to history.

  • 2 weeks later...

Its a even more back biting version of Survivor with guns. I STILL have not watched it since the jack off from the air force and the gunny etc ganged up on the navy swimer guy. Not defending him but just the total ass hole attitude of that bunch did me in. Screw them. As long as positive shows like Hot Shots are around this trash is better off in the shit pile. Sorry but I HATE to see shooters acting like adam henry on tv like that.

Any of you guys think a guy like Jerry or some of the really classy top ranked shooters would touch this trash with a 10 foot barrel?

Rant off.

Jerry M and Mike Voight were both on the show! So was Julie Golob. They are very classy IMO. It has turned into a top amateurs show not top pros.

They were on as expert consultants, not contestants, right?

Definitely along with Taran and Seeklander among other action shooters that made the show. I was referring to season 4.

In regards to the "Hot Shots" 2011 show, even though it first aired in Jan. 2012 (?) I can't really find any info on it on IMDB, TVRage (only shows 1 episode aired). Someone from production of that show needs to update sites like TVRage and Wikipedia. I can't believe I haven't heard of it before now, I mean I seriously don't know how this slipped by me. I guess it's at E10 now.

Can't find it anywhere online to watch one episode. Have to wait for the DVD or BR.

I still like Top Shot though, I don't get the Outdoor Channel or similar so it's nice to have something to watch that's shooting related. I must admit, it's a game, but I wish the teams would just pick the worst two shooters or throwers to always go against each other after the current stage is finished. However if you know you suck at throwing rocks or hatchets and you think you can smoke anybody else there 8 out of 10 days, it'd be hard not to "play the game" and go out on one thing when you know your very, very good in 90% of the other stuff.

Hope to see the latest season of Top Shot sometime soon though. Of course I am deffinetly going to be on the lookout for Hot Shots now. I guess I need to browse the Books, Movies, TV & Music section now to see all the stuff I'm missing. Thanks for bringing up Hot Shots.

I also agree with others that the All Stars is way too soon. If that's the only way they could negotiate to bring it back then that's better than getting it cancelled. Well I might change my mind after reading in the Books, Movies & TV section.
