  1. So you find the only difference to be slightly softer recoil and you went with the $3K platform? I'm curious why you went the MPX route then. You are a big, corn-fed guy and I wouldn't think 9mm recoil would be that significant a factor for you in picking a winning platform. Don't get me wrong..... I went with the MPX and have dropped a decent amount of money in it as well but the ARs I shot including the JP seemed to have significantly more recoil and dot bounce, but then I weigh 180 soaking wet and never played with buffers, springs, whatever with the JP. Plus I had to have a left side mag release. Is there anything else you prefer in the Sig?
  2. "Heroes" David Bowie Preferably the acoustic version, but any version would do.
  3. For a period of time Matt and Bobby were using STI slides. These slides, like others from STI produced during this period have been having a high failure rate. STI has advised that they believe that the material in the slides in question was too hard resulting in the failures. If you haven't done so already contact them and they will get this resolved for you.
  4. Wow. Well, at least you were getting it to eject at that PF. I couldn't do it with fast powders. Bravo sir!
  5. Greg, have you chronoed your E3 load in the MPX? My pistol E3 load was 160pf in my MPX. It would not run when I dropped the charge weight down to get to 133PF. Still, pretty damned soft at 160pf though.
  6. That makes sense. 8 was in a bay that is kinda down in a hole anyway.
  7. Chuck, I assume he used it when he crushed stage 8? I'm still trying to find vid of that run!!
  8. The heavier springs arguably actually reduce wear by protecting the disconnector from the hammer hitting it with excessive force which is a concern due to the high bolt speed of the MPX. I now have 3,350 rounds on my 24C with no issues.
  9. I went with the MPX. That said my two buddies run GMR-13s and there isn't a darn thing wrong with them. Well, other than no ambi mag release and me being a lefty. The MPX is an expensive option as others have said. Sig appears to have just jacked their price up and at a minimum it needs a trigger and stock. Mags are to my mind overpriced. You either need to get the gas port opened if you want to shoot fast powders or just shoot slow powders. I choose the latter. That said (having changed to slow powders) I now have an extremely reliable, soft shooting PCC that runs 40 round mags like butter. That works for me, but then I come from Open so every gun in this division is a bargain. :-)
  10. Taylor just moved to his new shop so I imagine he is really flipping busy right now.
  11. Hiperfire 24C. 2600 rounds with no issues.
  12. Yeah, I made that very point and explained that if a part ever fails it is on stage one of a match you traveled across the country and sunk $3K into. They were unimpressed.
  13. Richard...... no. I have tried twice to get a spare but was refused both times. I am much less than pleased by this.
  14. Rough crowd tonight. Glad some were able to help you Dafeist.
  15. For 132 PF approximately 3.7 at 1.128 with a 125 moly SNS projectile. :-)
  16. Now Eric, if you still lived in NM you could come down for A2 and shoot mine! ;-) You hit on a good point with the powders. In order to get down to 130 with a lot of them is we have to get down to sub-optimal charge weights. Results can be a filthy gun, downgraded accuracy, or both.
  17. Eric, I really like the N330 loads at 130PF. Only have @ 4lbs of it left though so will be looking for something equivalent. I have Silhouette which is close. Also have HS6 which is in the ballpark but at the really low charge weight needed I imagine it will be absolutely filthy to shoot.
  18. Eric, not sure what it was initially designed for but E3 is actually faster than tightgroup and Solo 1000 (my old fav). Started using it a year or two ago. Soft, accurate load for 9 minor.
  19. Interesting factoid from a day with the chrono and different powders after 2011BLDR let me try some of his rounds. I have a Gen II with the stock .045 gas port. Using 125 SNS projectiles I worked with my 9mm pistol powder of choice E3. This is a fastish powder which seems to also be the correct answer for blowback carbines. In order to get the bolt to lock back reliably I needed to run 152.3 PF. Granted, it still had a lighter recoil impulse than my buddies' blowback guns and the dot didn't bounce excessively but not an ideal load to me. Next i brought out some N330 I had in the closet which is a mid to slow range powder. With only that change the bolt would lock back at 113.8 PF and might have gone lower but that was the lightest charge I had. Long story short: Your 16" piston operated PCC is not your 5" pistol. It appears to need a different load if you are going to look for optimal gamer loads. :-)
  20. Thanks Kevin. Yep I will be at Rio. 5 stages of steel is impossible to say no to. :-) I am tending to agree with you that the MPX has less dot movement at higher PF. Not sure why because we aren't running comps but it is what it is. Plus I am really tired of clearing the jams I started getting when I dropped the PF down from my higher "break in" load.
  21. Kevin, i am still working a load up for my MPX and while I get the logic of a slower burning powder your load is just over 161 PF which raises a couple of follow up questions. Do you just prefer to shoot at that high a PF or is that as low as you can go reliably? I get reliable function at @ 150PF with E3 and it is a weeeeeeee bit faster than 340. (still feels softer than 130 PF in a blowback). I guess the two salient questions are A Can you get down to 130PF with slower powder and B Is 130PF even the right goal to pursue?
  22. Yeah, I'm kinda a stinker on port arms. It doesn't have to be like Uncle Sam taught you but if the muzzle isn't up around your chin or nose it ain't at port arms.
  23. So Kevin, does that mean you are able to run 130ish PF reliably by using longer burning powders? Any recipes you would like to share with the class?? :-)
