  1. Hello: Shooters Connection belt, Blade Tech holster and DAA mag pouches. I use 6 pouches on the belt. I also use spacers on the holster to space it out a little. I tried bullets out but it did not work for me so I use bullets forward like my open, limited, production setups. Thanks, Eric
  2. Hello: I am running them now. I have the 10mm box legal ones and load to 1.185" OAL. They have run great with either 8 rounds for major and 10 rounds for minor. I have a ton of 40 brass so I will be shooting single stack for a while. Going to be working up a minor load with 155's and will be testing 200 and 220's for major. I am using a Ed Brown mag release with button in a semi custom 9mm Springfield loaded with a 40 top end I built. Thanks, Eric
  3. Hello: I do a light cleaning after I shoot it. Mostly barrel, frame rails and slide. Total tear down after about 15 matches or 6 months. So about 5000-6000 rounds. If the trigger feels different I will pull all that assemble apart and have a look. I would run your pistol and see without cleaning and see when it starts to fail. Then you know when you have to do the cleaning. I can usually go 1000 rounds before a light cleaning. Thanks, Eric
  4. Jack, yes I have tried 3N38 but it was years ago. Testing some Shooters World powders right now. I was told years ago, buy powder that available, works well and is cheap. At this point it is not the powder that is holding me back. I think I need glasses. Thanks, Eric
  5. Hello: Autocomp burns a little hot compared to some of the other powders. Good powder but I still like HS-6. In order they are HS-6, Silhouette, AA7, AutoComp, and 3N37. I tried some others but these seem to work for me. Silhouette is reverse temp sensitive so take that into account. 3N37 burns hot as well. AA7 leaves some unburned powder using 115's for me. I just seem to keep coming back to HS-6, 115 Montana Gold JHP, Winchester small rifle primers and range brass. Thanks, Eric
  6. Hello: Looks like someone needs to do some reading. Lots of inserts for the AR15 magwell for Colt of Glock magazines also. The Hahn one for Colt mags works great. Thanks, Eric
  7. Hello: They used to sell blanks that you could do your own cut with. Thanks, Eric
  8. Hello: From what I see I think there are 9 in the top 16. Thanks, Eric
  9. Hello: Looks like some full length pistols did very well at nationals so that is what I would go with. Thanks, Eric
  10. Hello: If you can find the old SVI mags they are the best. They are made from thicker metal than the MBX and hold their shape for decades. I am using first gen STI's with metal Hardy spacers as well and they work well also for 9mm. So what I would do is try the new SVI mags in your grip. They are still made from thicker metal and will work in my STI grip. Guts I am using Bolen and TTI followers with their springs. Base pads I am using Dawson, Grams and TTI. Whatever base pads you like best that fit the gauge. Thanks, Eric
  11. Hello: I just run 115 JHP's for all my open guns. One bullet maker and one load for many years works for me. I would agree that some of these so called cheaper plated and coated are not any cheaper than buying jacketed bullets in bulk. Some like the softer feel of plated or coated bullets but when the buzzer drops all that goes away for me. Thanks, Eric
  12. Hello: I know guys that use Berry's 115 grain bullet for practice. JHP for matches. Thanks, Eric
  13. Hello: I have been using the JP bolt for a while over 6,000 rounds and only broke 1 firing pin so far. I also have been using a KAW valley bolt as well with the weight removed. It only has about 2,000 rounds through it. Firing pins are the weak part and hopefully someone will make one that doesn't break. The design and material choice is the problem that I have seen in a couple of broken firing pins from different manufactures. The Hiperfire trigger may not help matters either since it hits harder but feels oh so good. Thanks, Eric
  14. Hello: The way to look at holes in the barrel is it makes the barrel shorter since the gas leaves the barrel sooner. So it will take more powder to make power factor. If you raise the power factor on a barrel with no holes it will give the comp more gas to work with. It will also hit the hand harder as well. I use 115 grain bullets and no holes in the barrel since it doesn't need it with a good comp design. The lighter bullet gives me more gas and hits my hand a little less. No barrel holes also is quieter if that is a concern. Thanks, Eric
  15. Hello: I am playing with 220's right now. I am using some Xtreme plated ones since I bought them a while back when they were on sale and very very cheap. The two powders I have tried so far are Universal Clays and HP-38/231. I think I like the HP-38 a little better. I am loading to 1.185" OAL with this bullet. Seems pretty soft shooting and accurate enough so far(using a berm with sticks that I shoot). I need to test some more since I am sneaking up to major power factor right now at 158 with 3.9 grains HP-38. This is in a Schuemann 5" standard bushing barrel in my single stack. Thanks, Eric
  16. Hello: I should ask my son if he would like to try to make me one. He made me some cool green Alien head zipper pulls. Thanks, Eric
  17. Will see who wins nationals and what length gun he will be using. Same goes for the ladies as well. I think full length will be the winner.
  18. Hello: Everyone I know has gone back to full length pistols after playing with short or mid length barrels. Less powder to make major and a little more weight up front. Just take a look at what the top open shooters are using and if you get a chance to ask one why they use what they are using. Thanks, Eric
  19. Hello: I am using Dawson Para base pads with TTI spring and followers on my 140mm mags. If you have 170mm you could use them for reloads or just use your 140mm mags. Start with a big stick or 140mm and reload to another 140mm or big stick. Don't over think it. Thanks, Eric
  20. Hello: I just reread the thread and you stated you just got the open pistol. I would not change anything until you shoot at least 2000 rounds through it. Then you will get an idea what you would like and what will work for you. It is easy to spend money on things and not get any real results. Just trying to save you some coin. Thanks, Eric
  21. Hello: You can do a different type of stipple job on the plastic grip by using a 3/16" diameter soldering iron. It can be made so sharp it will hurt your hand. As for the shape you will have to build it up. If you like the Evo grip but don't like the weight, they make a titanium one. Thanks, Eric
  22. Hello: Glad you found what you were looking for. Thanks, Eric
  23. Hello: The Magpul 21 round mags reload very nice for me. I actually did a couple of classifiers with master class hit factors with a PCC. I would use them for IDPA if you are limited to 10 rounds. Put some lead wheel weights inside the mags so they drop faster. Thanks, Eric
  24. Hello: The stock JP handguard is very heavy making transitions slower for most people. The buffer setup is too heavy and the spring is over sprung for 131-134PF reloads. I also think the comp is heavy as well. I run JP bolts and their 4 weight buffer that is lightened for my reloads. Hope this helps. Thanks, Eric
  25. Hello: So for IDPA you can load to 30 rounds for stages that are only 18 rounds max? Why not just use Magpul 21 round mags or Glock 17 round mags with base pads. No need to have that extra mag length sticking out the bottom if you don'y have to. I find reloads are easier with the shorter mags also. Thanks, Eric
