  1. second video did have more recoil
  2. gmantwo, what load are you running in your "red, white and blue"?? thanks
  3. I shoot a para for limited in 40sw. As ksf141 said....I too replaced everything in the gun except for frame and slide. For open, the only issue is the dust cover portion of the frame. If it were thicker. you could work around everything else but REALLY... with metal grips available now for the S_I frames, why bother with a Para???? IMO
  4. The endless debate:) Here is my take on this topic. Other than the brass...reloading costs are the same. I shoot Zero bullets in a 40sw now but but I use to shoot 45. Checking bullets prices both are the same or close to it per 1000. You do get more of the 40 per 1000. Powder and primers, same cost. Only the brass is the price difference. But that's such a small factor. If you were to shoot in Limited division, than switching over makes sense, which is what I did. Where I live in California. 40 SS gun are very hard to come by, you almost have to build one up. If I were shooting only SS or L10, I would just shoot 45s, they are a "dime a dozen" here in California. True, the recoil impulse is different but so what! Shoot what you got, get good at...period. Understand that concept and you'll go a long way in this game. JMO
  5. 40sw BarSto bull barrel, 13lb recoil spring. 17lb mainspring. 180 zero, 1.180 oal, 4.7 TG Aftec extractor, modified mag catch, can use STI or SVI magazines. I spoke to Travis T. at the Limited nationals in Las Vegas a few years back at the awards dinner. I joked with him that myself and my friend and he (Travis), were probably the only Para shooters in the room! I asked him his setup....10 lb recoil spring with a 15lb mainspring, no shock buff, 180 bullets with N320. And that he has cracked a few slides with that setup! You can see in videos of him shooting how the slide does slams back. Thats is a very light setup. Too light for me to try and experiment with.
  6. 180 gr Zero bullets at 1.170 - 1.180 OAL .420 - .421 crimp. whatever powder you use use the barrel chamber for your gauge, nothing else.
  7. could that be a sear cut with the True Radius jig?
  8. for me, a light spring with major loads, may not damage the frame but I do feel the sensation or "bang", when the slide comes back. And that just doesn't feel right when your shooting. when setting up my gun with the springs, I like to think of the analogy , if you will, of a pickup truck with a heavy load. if the suspension or springs are too light, what happens? it bottoms out on the bumps. if the pickup truck has no load on it and the suspension is too stiff, you get a rough ride. that is why shock buffs are really useless. if your running the correct spring to your load, where the slide just barely bottoms out on the guide rod head, then you alright but if the slide is slamming against the GRH, that's not good and worst if your running a shock buffs that will get torn up. proper grip and front sight focus + the right spring = fast shooting. 9. this is the same reasoning why Dave Sevigny, shoots a 45acp in SS. And why in the past the major players when shooting 45acp, would choose a heavy bullets with a fast powder. Very soft recoil. If powder is still burning after the bullet leave the barrel, you get that "bark" of recoil. So, shooting a 200gr with a fast powder, is the same as trying to duplicate a 230gr with a fast powder, such as in the 45. Also, the benefit to doing a heavier bullets is maybe going lighter on the recoil spring. JMO
  10. am no rifle shooter by any means but my Weaver 1x3 will give me the same results at 200 yds. the "meat and potatoes" of rifle shooting is 500 to 600 yds. that's where I would be shooting to dope your setup, as previously mentioned in the above comments by Davsco. good luck
  11. What jcc7x7 said.... "A friend just made GM with a classic frame and some slight slide lighting. What he did was shoot the gun ALOT and he did fine with his gained skills. Pretty sure he would have made it with whatever gun he had". we all have different goals and ideas of what to expect from ourselves...think about what it is your looking for from this sport??? in other words...if finishing well against better shooters is your aim, then "burning ammo" with whatever you have will do the trick!!!! find a routine for practice and buy supplies and really learn to shoot. In the end I think you will find what you do need and what you don't in a gun. JMO
  12. take into consideration "IF you crack a slide"? It can be expensive....
  13. I spoke to Chris Tiley about this mount a year or so ago. What I remember him telling me was that smaller dot size looked larger and that the feel or balance of the gun was more in the center of his grip. Also email Altas, awhile ago about thier mount and their reply was.... :there was no significant advantage, between the rear mount and the standard mount, in their opinion. FWIW
  14. lord's own 45 caliber in SS...funny anyways, I use TG 4.6, Zero 180...no complaints. I have used WST 5.0, Zero 180 bullets....no complaints. WST is slightly softer than TG but when your in a match, you dont notice it. Both loads at 1.180
  15. I believe you could have had the C/P barrel cut or trimmed to fit the N/W. Not sure but someone will verify...
  16. Rich Dettelhouser of Canyon Creek thumbs up for Rich!!!!!!!
  17. should the extractor hook in the photo, look like that for 9mm and 40sw, also??? thanks
  18. what numbers, should someone look for to decide between the two slides?? thanks
  19. I looked at the website but they do not sell parts. where would I look to get one?? thanks
  20. why are there no single sided safety with a thumb guard???
