  1. IMO, spring weight also has something to do with the type powder your using. Ex...TG is a harsh powder compared to WST or N320 and using a 11,12 spring with TG, may feel like it is battering the frame. JMO
  2. "elucidate" damn, I like that word. Had to look it up!! thanks for that...
  3. you asked for troubleshooting help...FCD and U-die combination, along with better bullets. JMO
  4. this is just my opinion but ...If your using the Lee Factory Crimp die, there is no need to use the Lee Undersizing die, in the first station. I regular resizing die will do. additionally, I would not use coated or plated bullets to begin with. Zero 180gr, FMJ bullets will yield excellent results.
  5. Dawson Precision, has everything you need. In fact the Dawson has a much better "fixed rear sight" for your gun. Much better than the stock rear. But replacing the rear can be difficult.
  6. If it were me...I would get a thinner front sight. reason being that a .125 FS will covers a lot of a target at 25 yds and beyond and changing the FS is a much easier task that replacing the rear sight and will give a much more precise shot placement. A .125 rear notch is fine, if you couple it with a .100, .110 or .115 FS. , usually a .25 to .30 difference between the FS and RS will give you want your looking for. JMO...
  7. generally, that is where the cracks are happening. around the ejection port. that is where my was.
  8. no doubt about it, 40sw will do everything you need it to do! But the dilemma with the 2 guns (45and 9mm) is...two of everything! Whats why" IF" your only shooting SS and L10? 9m or 45. IF you really can not get a 40sw SS gun. Tough choice, I can see the lure for the 9mm and have shot some with it but for me...I like shooting major! In California, you can not get anything outside of the state this anymore, whats here legal in the state, is all you can really get.. 45s are a "dime a dozen"!
  9. davidb72, is right on that. from the start, if your getting 45 brass, just make sure what you buy is all large primer holes. buy from a good source... at the matches, leave your brass. just recycle what you practice with. you shouldn't have a problem.
  10. BigBamBoo and fishsticks are correct. I live in California, finding a SS 40 is just impossible. And beside only a few manufacturers make a 40 SS. 10mm, with a 40sw barrel (same breech) will work and going from a 9mm to 40sw, can work but the breech mouth on some slides need to be opened in order for the 40 case to slide up. It used to be bullet cost difference between the two calibers 45 and 40 was something to consider. But now bullets sell for the same price for each caliber... well, at least from Zero, they do. So the only real difference is in the cost of brass. IF, you were ONLY, going to shoot SS or L10, like in California, 45acp is a good choice. Plenty of guns to choose from. JMO
  11. Both Hi-Power Jack and Aircooled6racer, have valid points. That's a tough one.
  12. the way it was explain to me about the cracking, was that there are two opposing energy forces, the slide is moving backwards and the bullet exiting forward and that the barrel lugs not completely disengaged from the upper lugs. that is way most of the cracks are around the ejection port. could it also be the same idea as to the recoil impulse in major 9mm, compared to that of a .223 with a 16" barrel, carbine gas length tube? are not .223 case rims being shredded off at the extractor or failing to extract from the chamber because of the pressure?? JMO
  13. just this past week I had loads with TG and WST, same PF and shot them side by side. Yes, WST was milder to shoot. But would shooting TG, keep me from finishing in the top ten at a major??? Not at all!!!! That's why buy lots of what you can afford and .....burn ammo BABY!!!!!
  14. before touching the extractor, check to see if the round is touching the extractor? if the round is hanging up on the ramp, it may not be near the extractor. so then...try a shorter OAL and see if that works. back off the powder charge and try 1.160 good luck
  15. matt cheely, has titumanuim 2 port comps. check his website. he is on this forum under vendors.
  16. what was the malfunction?? what caliber? i didn't catch in the posts. am amusing 9mm with 115 gr, HS6 powder? thanks
  17. I've been shooting TG with 180 gr Zero bullets for years. Get what you can afford and just shoot!!!! Burn Ammo, BABY!!!!
  18. So, after cracking my 9mm major slide, I need a new one. Not sure I want to go back with 9mm for major! what opinions on other calibers??? Both SC and 9x23 rate up there in price range. Now am not sure whether it was because of 9mm, that the slide cracked but continuing to use 9mm and have another cracked slide is not worth doing so. I could have use that money and invest in another caliber. Any thoughts on another caliber??? thanks
  19. I think if you use the flex follower, it may fit the 10th round. I live in California and we are on the verge of going to 10 rds in this state on July 1. I have the Corey 9 round mags but I will be buy another set of the magazines not cut to fit the 10th rd. Just using the flex follower, if the 10 th rd, does fit, it will really tight. JMO
