  1. Great! If you start shooting matches regularly you should make some progress. Then it just depends on if you really want to work at it or not.
  2. I a "husky" guy. Those lightweight match type shirts aren't long enough for me. I buy lightweight t shirts that are longer that tuck in well. I bought a couple of their extra long length shirts but those came down to my knees. I do like the shirts with the shooters names on them. It's embarrassing how many times I've shot with some people and haven't connected their name.
  3. I've recently shot 9mm 135g minor switching for a while from my usual 200 gr 45 175 pf loads. This is just at some local monthly matches but I feel like I can tell the difference on some of the poppers as far as how they're going down.
  4. The trigger on a CZ da/sa when in single action mode after the initial DA first shot is not the same as the trigger on a SAO gun.
  5. All divisions have plusses and minuses. People shoot whichever division or divisions that they want. It can't happen but I think USPSA would be a more interesting sport if the numbers of shooters shooting in each division was spread out a little more evenly. It is less fun to shoot SS when there is very low turnout although it's my favorite division. But people are showing what is popular. Some shooters are shooting in divisions because they want as much competition as possible vs shooting the gun they actualky like to shoot the most. I'm getting set up for CO too.
  6. That's funny. I expected to see a little more beveled bottom or similar but when I looked and saw how big it was I was surprised.
  7. Either way (higher or low round count) the stages and targets need to be challenging. I wouldn't want an extra 10 shots just to hose more targets. In the summer when it's really hot and turnout is low I will happily accept a simpler set of stages with lower round count and less props to set up and tear down, IDPA or USPSA. Out of there by noon. But I don't want that all of the time.
  8. Yes we do want high quality stages. But a lot of shooters don't want to go to the trouble of heading out to a match and shooting 60-70 rounds or less.
  9. I don't shoot much IDPA anymore but years ago it seemed like quite a few shooters specifically shot it instead of USPSA because of the lower round count. Shooters who bought ammo. And that was long before component and ammo prices of the last couple of years.
  10. I agree. I have never been to nationals but usually go to a state, regional and other level two matches every year. I occasionally see poppers out maybe 40 yards or a really fast swinger that has steel hardcover positioned so that you have to shoot it as it swings at top speed. Also a standards stage that starts with a 50 yard string. I'm a "B" shooter but still can make those shots although a miss is not a surprise. I haven't seen anything that I thought was ridiculously difficult. For me it's mostly getting in and out of the Cooper tunnels depending on how low they are.
  11. Stoeger is just about the most extreme example of someone who decided he wanted to get as good as he could. He studied what it would take. Put together a plan, found out what works and what doesn't then diligently worked that plan until he achieved his goal. There's a few others like him and still others who have put in a lot of work but still not at the level that Stoeger did.
  12. I believe it's true that if you really know how to do quality dry fire practice along with effective live fire practice that you could make more improvement then mostly shooting matches. Also you need to have a range available. But unless you really have the discipline and make it a priority most people don't end up doing it. I should do much more of it but I pretty much like shooting the matches. Typical B shooter that I am.
  13. Yes. Of course this has been proven already. Because everyone knows that 80 to 90% of guns used in IDPA are Wilson Combat.
  14. I've shot those pipes with Modoc. Used to see them in SASS matches. Some shooters would have a heck of a time thinking they were hitting them good but they weren't going down. Then some one would hit it good and the pipe would go flying. You'd see a shooter repeatedly missing just left over and over again. I liked them.
  15. Wow! Justine Williams 2nd overall against everyone in PCC. Has a lady in any division placed that high at nationals before?
  16. New USPSA shooters will often add a lot of time to their stages because they are not sure what target is next, often forgetting targets. They aren't confident with a stage plan, stopping to figute out what's next and usually do all standing reloads. But that's normal when you first start. When you get past that point you will reduce your stage times and can work on everything else it takes to improve your performance.
  17. In my local more rural area our smaller matches don't fill up. But the larger matches a couple hours away in population centers do fill up quickly.
  18. Shooting 45 I generally come to the line with 6 on my belt and a barney mag. I pull the last one to make ready. Occasionally I will bring a seventh mag on a stage if I think I'll have extra mag changes plus the chance of dropping one. Rarely really need to, but just in case.
  19. Is it the weight of railed 1911s? They have bumped the weight limit up a little.
  20. I was mainly referencing the amount of time you said it takes you to make your gun 100% reliable from day one. If you set up to do it commercially you'd probably do things differently. It's the same with my building on my property with hand tools. Takes more time then I could charge people.
  21. ZZT. That's great that you can build those yourself using your own labor. It sounds like one of those things that is fine for yourself but if you had to charge for all the labor you put into it the cost would be high like commercial outfits. I don't build guns. But for example I've built a workshop, decks, small barn and fencing on our 3 acres. They all came out very nice. But I couldn't do it commercialy with the methods I use. Too much one man labor.
  22. I could only find squadding. Where are the division results?
  23. Do some shooters feel so confident that they can argue their way into a reshoot if a popper doesn't go down that it enables them to be comfortable shooting ammo that is so close to the minimum pf or slightly under?
  24. Welcome! I'm just about 100 miles north of you. Have fun.
  25. I didn't mean anything negative asking about what target was used or scoring. Just curious about how it was done. Amazing times!
