  1. They don't do this before big matches regularly but it's occurred a few times. These are small clubs with 25 to 40 shooters. Usually they announce at the previous months match that next month they will have a chrono so that shooters can check their ammo if they want. People have been appreciative. A lot of newer shooters going to their first big match have never checked before. But yes, the responsibility is on the shooter to meet all rules requirements.
  2. A couple of local clubs will set up a chrono and maybe have a mag guage or production/SS box at our local monthly level 1 match before a level 2 or higher match is coming up. But that's the only time I've seen it.
  3. Nice! I'm heading to Bend tomorrow for the Oregon State USPSA Championship. I'm in Northern Ca.
  4. I'm an old guy primarily SS B shooter. In theory it would be nice if when you considered the pluses and minuses of a division the result was that the percentage of shooters in each division was somewhat evenly divided. That would never happen of course. We all will shoot what we prefer under the rules. It has been interesting watching shooters in different divisions with varying levels of ability shoot matches. Seeing how they go about shooting stages. I just think USPSA would be slightly less interesting if everyone is shooting in only a couple of divisions. But I'll still be shooting.
  5. It would have been worse if it was USPSA. Some of it depends on the range you're shooting at. Shade available? Where I am we are usually finished before the hottest part of the day but it's still hot. Also if you barely make it through the shooting then still have to tear down the stages and put everything away, that'll tire you out. Less teardown in steel challenge. At some point I'll just skip some matches.
  6. Being a primarily Single Stack shooter stages with all mags on barrels aren't my favorite. Usually the staff will explain to shooters when to place mags on barrels so shooters aren't waiting for the make ready before placing them.
  7. Was stage 15 the standards stage, Schmidts standards or a variation of that?
  8. As an example a 100gr bullet at 800fps is 80pf. 158gr would be about 506fps to get 80pf. Is this in the ballpark of what you're describing?
  9. People constantly make comments about IDPA rules being tailored to allow Wilson Combat guns. You would think by now that if they actually shoot IDPA they would have recognized how few Wilson guns are being used.
  10. In my area I am seeing more use of a yellow starting stick for start positions. If they want you to start outside of the shooting area they will place the start stick away from the shooting area with instructions, (toes, heals touching or straddling the start stick. This has largely replaced instructions for "start outside shooting area".
  11. I'm a single stack 45 cal shooter. I sometimes shoot limited with a CZ Tac Sport 40. But i keep saying to myself I should just shoot more 9mm at monthlies just because it's cheaper. I have a regular CZ 75B single action 9mm and shot it in a match last weekend . I'm just a B shooter and know that 40 is better but I still enjoyed it. Just got a set of the Loc palmswell bogies yesterday. Gun feels great with them.
  12. I shot a match and on this stage the start position was standing outside of the shooting area, heels touching Xs. Unfortunately they were using wooden Xs screwed to the fault line. The X protruded beyond the edge of the faultline. As I stepped back into the shooting area the X acted like a boot jack and my shoe came right off. I drew and started shooting and as I started to move to another position the RO stopped me. I was ready to finish with one shoe off but they gave me a reshoot. It was a poor design.
  13. Good to hear. I shot a USPSA match down in Lincoln today. I have an extra kydex holster you could use if needed. A few mags too.
  14. Hi Modoc. Gator here. They have loosened up the holster and mag requirements including positioning on the belt. Going to shooting in Redding? Second Saturday. I shoot SS there.
  15. .80 kydex seems kind of thick. Especially two layers.
  16. That makes more sense then an imaginary rear faultline.
  17. If they're calling a procedural for a foot past an imaginary line as in the diagram, they are defeating the purpose of having faultlines. Back to subjective calls. You'd need to put a back faultline down essentially making a shooting box.
  18. You dove right in! Sounds like you're having fun. I just finished shooting the staff match for the Golden Bullet in Redding, Ca. Saturday and Sunday is the main match.
  19. If I want to shoot on a weekend and the only match available is an outlaw match, I'll shoot it. I've done it many times. But as I've said the clubs in my area have all become affiliated with the national organizations and I prefer having a set of rules that's the same from match to match. I've shot matches that are set up like USPSA but with all steel .
  20. IDPA type outlaw matches. Obviously the official rules have changed a lot over the years. I've seen outlaw matches that have..way too many downloaded starts, completely ignore shooting from concealment. Some have had completely different reloading rules and the match directors own defenition of shooting from cover despite what the current, at that time rulebook said. Allowing the wrong type of gun in divisions. 1911 in ssp for example. Some try to make it sound like they are a real IDPA club but they're not affiliated. But to be fair outlaw matches can have whatever rules they want.
  21. I know nothing about outlaw 3 gun matches. I've shot outlaw USPSA/IDPA type matches that were fine. But sometimes they'll have their own goofy rules that you're not expecting. There's not much in the way of outlaw matches in my area. A couple that did are now affiliated.
  22. Many of the law enforcement officers I've seen come to matches have started with using their duty gear and will move through the stage mor according t their training. After getting some reps in and getting more comfortable shooting and with all of the gun handling that shooting stages entails they usually move towards a more standard USPSA setup and competitive manner of shooting.
  23. Do they use the smaller circle in scoring the target?
  24. If you're reloading ammo you may find that you need to have different loads for different guns in the same caliber if you're trying to load just above the minimum for your longest barreled gun. ⁹
