  1. I suppose if no one ever complained to USPSA headquarters how would they know? But we don't know if they're actually affiliated or not. They shouldn't be.
  2. The Gridiron match that was mentioned has been around since at least 2015. It's been a locap SS vs Production match until last year. I don't know if it was mainly because of shooter feedback or just to make it a bigger match but it changed last year. Now they've opened it up to other divisions. But they have competition between divisions that they think compete against each other well. SS vs Production/ Open vs PCC/ Limited vs CO. You can also sign up as teams if you want. A little different but still fun.
  3. My favorite division is Single Stack. I've shot Limited and now have finally got around to setting up for CO or LO. I wish there was more SS participation but don't really see that happening. At nearby L2 matches there are usually 10 to 15, or at least there has been in the past. I've gone to the Western States Single Stack match 4-5 times and had a great time.
  4. Assuming that a person has a backup gun for a division, is it really that hard to take a second gun rug with the backup along, just in case? Bringing spare parts and tools and trying to repair at a match would be more of a hassle unless it's just replacing a slide stop or something.
  5. I'm a B shooter. No one is going to ask me about the intricacies of what it takes to shoot at a very high level. But I feel like I can give good basic information to new or inexperienced shooters coming out to start USPSA. Many don't know the basics of how a match gets set up and runs on match day. Some have a lot of incorrect assumptions. I don't try to give information that I don't know.
  6. In my local more rural area there are 3 clubs within about 1 hour of me. Two of the clubs only have 3 bays. We reset to shoot 6 stages including a classifier. That limits us, usually 25 to 30 shooters a little less in winter. The other club has 6 bays and maybe 10 to 15 more shooters at times. A lot of shooters shoot at 2 of those 3. Rare to fill up to max. We're glad to have the 3 matches fairly close by. About 2 hours away in the bigger cities they're closer to 80 or more and fill up faster.
  7. I use WST for 200gr coated lead swc, 4.9grns around 175pf.
  8. I've mentioned I just got my first carry optic gun set up. Haven't even got to the range yet with weather and minor surgery. I've been dry firing some at home and barely tried taping over the optic. That's going to take some work to get used to.
  9. At one major shooting SS i chrono'd at 168. Most matches it's been 175-177.. I've seen shooters who don't compete complain that they might do it if shooters weren't shooting downloaded ammo. They think it would be more realistic shooting full power defensive type ammo. But invariably in other discussions when people ask for 45acp load data, for example, those same people will post data that wouldn't reach 150pf.
  10. Are you guys pretty confident that if LO ended up being dropped that they would just go ahead and allow SA guns in CO? Much of a chance that they wouldn't?
  11. Is that actual case hardening or a chemical cosmetic treatment?
  12. If I was shooting 1500 rounds a month and could afford it I'd want a years supply. Meanwhile see if deals improve and stock up further. At some point if prices looked like they were headed up, stock up before ot gets out of hand. Of course that's a guessing game. But I reload.
  13. If you're going to shoot any major matches where they chrono your ammo the 128pf is cutting it close. Also how much do you go through in a years time?
  14. I just got my first gun with an optic setup for CO. But my other guns that I already have are SAO. If I put an optic on one of them I could use my Da/sa gun for a backup in LO. For CO backup I'd need a new gun. Then either way if they keep LO as a seperate division or eventually combine them and allow SAO into CO I'd be ok. But I'm just an average shooter not trying to push to the top.
  15. Now I have to figure out what works best as far as glasses prescription.. I have been shooting with glasses set for front sight focus on dominate eye and distance on other eye . I already knew that wouldn't work with the dot. I did just get my slide back with sro mounted. I tried it with my regular distance prescription and the dot looks much better while experimenting with brightness. I also looked through it with no glasses on and it actually looks pretty good. This is just in my backyard. I plan on getting to the range next week to shoot it and sight in. Anyone else shoot using distance prescription or just plain lenses even though you have a prescription?
  16. I haven't seen a problem with shooters pointing the muzzle above the berm during reloads. Especially moon clip shooters who use gravity for the empty moon to fall out. If the muzzle is getting pointed straight up, that's a problem. I have heard of ranges where it's a dq for the muzzle to point above the berm but that's for revolvers or semiautos
  17. I just received my CZ slide back milled and a SRO mounted. Is it best to turn it off between matches or adjust to lower power level and leave it on? What do most shooters do? With some electronics people say it's harder on them turning them on and off vs leaving them on. This is my first red dot. Thanks.
  18. I say just take a little time and start getting set up to reload. Don't rush out and buy everything at once at current prices. I'm not saying that prices will be what they used to be but eventually they will bottom out at whatever level will then be normal. Then you will be able to save money and be ready for future ammo/component shortages.
  19. How sturdy are the dovetail mounts? I had already seen some claims that they flex more then a slide milled and can break more easily. Seems like that would be more possible with a major gun. I just got the news that my first slide getting milled is ready and should have it soon to try CO.
  20. I'm a shooter who likes shooting major in SS or Limited. But it appears that a big reason for these possible changes is that there is a very large number of shooters who want to shoot cheaper 9mm but don't want to compete against major.
  21. Shooting irons sights one of the mantras regarding sights is "see what you need to see". You don't need the same refined sight picture at an open 7 yard target as you need for a 30 yard mini popper. Is the same thing true at any level with optics. On a 30 yard mini popper would you focus more on the dot?
  22. I guess we'll find out but it seems like a good chance that if they end up with seperate LO and CO divisions both will have enough shooters to be viable as seperate divisions.
  23. I get that the upper level shooters are only concerned with match or division wins. At nationals some might be happy with top 10 or whatever. There are some midrange/lower level shooters that want a class win, top B,C. Etc. But I think there are a lot of us who just enjoy some good natured competition with buddies who are at a similar ability level. Or finishing ahead of a buddy that's shooting CO when you're shooting Production. Things like that. Many of us don't put in much work but do try to do our best (at whatever level you're at) when shooting a match. But I think we're all having fun. When I talk to friends or other shooters who don't compete I just emphasize how much fun the shooting is vs plinking at the range esoecially indoor ranges.
  24. In your, or other posters experience, are all shooters capable, with practice, of using a red dot correctly? Do some shooters eyes or brains just not adjust to them or is it more a lack of putting the work in. It sounds like it does come more naturally to some shooters. I'm just getting set up to shoot an optic for the first time. Thanks.
