  1. Was this on a scored paper target or steel? Did hit placement matter? Incredibly fast times!
  2. I'm up in northern California. What ckub do you shoot at? I'm primarily shooting USPSA these days. Welcome!
  3. If single actions were allowed in CO would many Shadow shooters still start hammer down? Or just start cocked and locked or even convert to SA0? Might need to change the thumb safety.
  4. I can't imagine shooting a USPSA match with 89 shooters and only 4 bays/squads. We have a couple of local clubs that only have 3 bays each. We reset each stage to shoot 6 stages including a classifier. At one of them in past years we occasionally got into the 50s attendance wise. But now 30 would be a good sized match.
  5. Moto. How many level 2 or above lost brass matches a year do you work? That is a good chance to pick up a lot of brass but you work hard at the matches so that's one benefit. I realize you can also get brass at monthlies if you need it.
  6. I shot a lot as a kid and teenager but hadn't shot much as an adult. I wanted to have something at home for protection. Soon I saw an ad for SASS and thought nothing looked cooler then a big bore single action revolver. Got more cowboy guns and shot that. Then looking at magazines and gunstores decided I wanted a 1911. Got one. The good thing to me about competition was that once you discover your first one you now know that there are other competitions out there. Looked around at what I could shoot with my 1911 and found a local IDPA club. Started with that then found USPSA and ICORE. Now I shoot USPSA primarily. Single Stack and Limited. Going to check out getting a gun set up for carry optics. The main thing was that competition is so much more fun then going plinking.
  7. PCC would be more attractive to me as a seperate match with some tighter shots then reasonable for a handgun and possibly longer shots if there was room. But I don't think the middle of the pack or below PCC shooter wants that. They want to compete in a pistol ability level match with a long gun and optic.
  8. If you start with a clean bay it's pretty easy to pick up brass after each shooter. Let's say you got 100 pieces of brass back that don't have to be replaced at 3 cents each( ballpark). You could look at it as for that 100 rounds those 10 cent primers now are only 7 cents. People are knocking themselves out to save on primers.
  9. Same for me. I haven't been sweating losing brass much. But it is nice at some matches to get a decent amount of brass back.
  10. They still have a chance to be division champ or high master in a pistol division. That's the price to shoot a rifle in a handgun match.
  11. Now that it's been mentioned I also have to go around and pick up my mags. At least more then I used to. When I was shooting locals and we were regularly picking up brass it was nice at bigger matches to not worry about it because it was lost brass match. But that was only a few matches a year. Now it's common at locals. But I'm primarily a 45 shooter so notice it more.
  12. I wonder if it's partly because a higher percentage of shooters are shooting 9mm? Otherwise I would think with other costs having skyrocketed shooters would still prefer to brass more to save a few bucks. At a small match with small squads I get that there wouldn't be enough bodies to reset but with full squads there should be.
  13. With the cost of everything going up I've been surprised at how brass picking has declined. I used to see more clubs that had one or two people picking up brass while others reset. Now most just want to leave it till the match is over. It's not so bad if shooting 9mm but my 45s are scattered on all the stages if you're left to only pick up brass on your last stage. It's supposed to make the match go quicker but with full squads I'm not sure it does.
  14. Yet people are still complaining about being too close to breaking the 180 when shooting a target.
  15. I have seen a stage with an uprange retreat that had a very narrow area between the walls and faultline. If you stayed inside the faultline it did crowd you close to the walls, but of course you could step out of the shooting area to give yourself more room while retreating and then step back in to engage targets. With the varying levels of experience at a match I just thought it was unnecessary to set it up that way. Other then that one stage I don't see a problem with the retreating stages. Most matches these days block the targets from being available to allow you to break the 180.
  16. Yeah. If it was legal for retaining a tac reload you'd see a bunch of them.
  17. I've had to use my backup 1911 twice. Rear adjustable sights falling apart. The second time was the last shooting position on day 1 leaning out around stacked barrels for one last target. When I went to bag my gun at the safe table I noticed the main part of the sight was gone. Didn't notice it on the stage. Found parts in the gravel at that last target. Switched to backup the next day.
  18. I've never been to nationals but at Level 2, or state matches I've only seen top Senior or SS in the overall standings recognized. Probably not enough in each division to matter particularly in locap divisions these days.
  19. Ok. Then how about Senior, SS and recognizing high hicap and locap high shooter for each. The locap Super Senior isn't going to be high SS against Open SS shooters.
  20. Sorry to hear that Rowdy. Balance and dizziness could really effect someone's ability to safely participate. I had to drop out of the final day at a match with those issues. Just once though. Good luck to you.
  21. Thinking about it I would have to say that local monthly match fees have not gone up much compared to other prices over the last 10-20 years. And I'm not comparing to only the things that have skyrocketed. Just the normal gradual increase in costs over time.
  22. One our local clubs has a few choices to click when registering. I am am one of the stage designers and will be there early to set up. I will be there early to help set up. I will be there for the shooters meeting and then shoot the match. Not exactly that but along those lines. Nothing about teardown though.
  23. I'd start with making an announcement before the match making it very clear that shooters are expected to tear down before leaving. If at your club stage designers get a reduced or free match, let the shooters know and point out that those others helping set up are paying just like everyone else. Of course shooters who are older and worked their butts off for years can be excused from some of the more taxing work. If a regular shooter who pitches in all the time needs to take off early in a rare circumstance, no problem. If everyone has been given all this information but refuses to help then you may have to take further action but first start by making sure they've been informed.
