  1. Not any different than stock car racing in its labeling. It's essentially impossible to check all the internals in the guns on the production list, so I can see why the rules have been relaxed over time.
  2. Max load is set due to pressure limits. 9mm major is one of those cases where max load is exceeded to make PF but it requires special barrels capable of handling the high pressures. Yes you can really screw up your gun when you exceed the normal pressures (SAAMI specs)
  3. that seems odd as he has a 97% in there that is valid.
  4. Have you checked your chrono to make sure its reporting reasonable velocities? if you did something to create higher pressures like seating too deep or over crimping to the point you'd damage your gun in that way, then the velocities should be very high and you should be well above those PF numbers you are seeing. So this is counter intuitive.
  5. I just always set the classic option, its habit now. I didn't realize that the B zone still existed in the newer version.
  6. I was the only one to have shot that edge to cause this issue. I did say we need to offer it to the squad (we were the first to shoot the replacements) but no one wanted it as everyone else made their good hits or missed entirely.
  7. I used this article to get a reshoot this weekend. I called a shot and verified the hole I saw as I moved to a position where I could see it (but not shoot it due to a wall blocking all but the shoulder D zone) and upon scoring noticed the top target was matching the left corner but the right side side was low to the point the perf on the bottom target was showing Would have been a mike instead of the C I thought it was. So I get the purpose of the article now even though my previous reply here said it's reaching. When the targets are far enough away to not discern the area of misalignment but you can call a shot then its a legit issue.
  8. The thing is in this case the backer is a not a legally presented target so no one should be considering it to a target to shoot at. I guess the comment about calling that shot as a Delta and choosing to not make it up is valid but reaching IMO, but hell, tape and pasters that are not flat and cast shadows or the sun moving throughout the day causing "holes" to appear through the thinner pasters makes calling shots harder too. Those are things that we can control. Making sure tape is flat and pasters are heavy enough to block the sun, or even putting up target shades. But you can't appease everyone I suppose. And what about poppers that are not hinged to the base? Those are never reset 100% the same every time. They are always shifted in the base changing the presentation and even their behavior.
  9. I shoot both but more USPSA than SC. Only 1 SC match a month versus 3-4 USPSA a month. I am a CRO with SC endorsement. I like that the common divisions have common equipment rules and that the official range commands and core safety rules are identical. However there are inconsistencies in the rules but those are getting fewer and fewer (lets ignore the inconsistencies within the individual rule books for now). Having consistency in the common areas makes things so much easier I think that the lack of SC endorsed ROs is an issue and even the low number of ROs in general participating in local SC matches is a big issue as well. Not knowing the range commands and the minor adaptations for rimfire has been an issue but I am used to it and will correct them when I can. But at least they are out there trying or I'd never get to shoot or get a break as I'd always be on the timer. I agree with the poster above about maybe having a SC specific RO certification/class. I think SC is running fairly well given is second tier position with the overall org. Not sure if SC needs it's own BOD, but I don't follow the BOD agendas much at all.
  10. Read the rules on handling PCCs at the berm away from the safe area..... Those get a lot of people lately
  11. All the rules apply or none of them do.
  12. That RO was also asking you to do something against the rules that would result in your DQ as well You have a decocking lever so the exception does not apply to you.
  13. Especially if you are shorter in stature. Same with clamshells and max traps where the no-shoot is not directly against the scoring target. Shorter folks get less headbox so if the no-shoot is set a little high, a shorter person does not see a legally presented target.
  14. Shoot steel challenge when you don't have a USPSA match. Its live fire practice, offers a lot more draws than a typical USPSA match, transition practice, emphasizes sight picture, etc.
  15. Barney up whenever you can. Have at least 5 mags, preferably 6. Get your hits on steel. You may find it optimal on some stages to engage parts of nearby arrays to maximize ammo use in a mag and then finish up that other array after you move/reload. And welcome to the boomer club
  16. Affiliation with USPSA requires that the club follow USPSA rules. 3.3 requires club to follow USPSA rules unless they have written exemption 2.5.1 includes "or outside the portion of the range allocated to the USPSA match" so it seems that while specific to the loading/unloading station relating to the cold range principle, I feel this sets a precedent that the "range" for USPSA rule purposes is limited to space allocated to the match. Outside that space, if not explicitly outlined in the rules such as PCC and vehicles, local site rules apply. Inside that space however, USPSA only rules apply for consistency for shooters I do think "range" should be in the glossary to help avoid the issues being raised here.

    DQ

With or without permission from the match officials and with or without an RO present? Function fire and testing in and of itself is not a DQ. Doing it without permission is.

    DQ

Two issues being discussed here. 1) When you are DQ'd relative to competing in another division 2) When you are DQ'd relative to the end of the match If you complete the match in one division and then change to another division and are DQ'd while "in that division" then the previous results stand and the current division is a match DQ. So if you shoot Limited first (e.g. Saturday squad) and plan to shoot CO next (e.g. Sunday squad) then if you DQ at the safe table with the Limited gun your Limited scores are gone and I don't think you can shoot the CO division as you are out of the match. If you DQ at all with the CO gun, then you are DQ'd from the match but the Limited scores stand as you are 100% done with the Limited division. For Steel Challenge matches where you often shoot multiple divisions at the same time, then a match DQ is a match DQ and both entries go away. If the match results are declared final and thus the match is over, then your scores stand and its just up to the range officials for the range itself (not the match officials, though often the same) to decide what happens to you if you do something unsafe, but your scores stand
  19. easy to lose and harder to put back if you have fat fingers and no smaller pliers/tweezers handy
  20. I have been told that unless the MD/RM is actually running the shooter as RO/ARO/CRO, it's bad form to make calls from the peanut gallery. Part of that discussion was that the RM is responsible for range safety but outside the actual shooting aspect during the CoF, things like safe areas, eyes/ears, gun handling at berms, etc. then they deal with whatever the RO/ARO/CRO raise Honestly I am still trying to assess that POV
  21. It may have been designed primarily for production but there are many being used in Limited or even built for Open. Those guys like their hammer back starts
  22. Isn't this is a simple case of the laws of physics and the blowback design of most pistols? The less powerful force of the lower powder charge for heavier bullets (for same PF) means that the bullet is moving slower and the case has less rearward force/speed on the breech face so the slide moves slower, thus the "push" vs the "snap" feeling. That pesky equal and opposite force thing....
