Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Thanks for the info, I’m very active Crossfit, mountain biking, I think years of training and sports put a lot of undue stress on my hips and now I’m having to pay the piper. So I’m thinking that recovery may be a little quicker for me especially at 39 but again I don’t know. I just hate to miss some of the matches this year. I had really looked forward to shooting a couple of major matches.

Good call, yeah the movement inclusion is a better idea I should have thought of that
  3. I think it mostly depends on how much maintenance you want. A Striker fires duty gun requires less attention than the 1911, that said i used to carry a 1911 for about 9 months out of the year, but with so many shootable pistol options ie: 365, Hellcat etc it’s a lot easier to just learn to shoot and carry one of the smaller pistols. My back is not in the greatest shape, if it was I might still consider carrying a 1911, it’s a fantastic firearm.

Thanks Nathan, this was my first year shooting USPSA and I was using sort of sub par gear for carry optics. Currently D class but want to make sure I have everything optimized for better performance. I noticed during dry fire I could get my pistol out and on target much faster with a hanger on my holster so as I add a few modifications to my belt setup which I’m still figuring out I wanted to have a live fire drill I could do to test it. I will also mention that during a 3 Gun match this last year I had a pistol fall from a holster so now better retention is very high on my list.

As a newer USPSA shooter, I wanted to start getting a baseline on my “gear” setup ie holster belt mag pouch locations etc, and shot the El Pres. I had another shooter comment that it was not ideal for a gear testing baseline. Is this true or is there a better way to track your baseline progress when adjusting mag pouches and holster placement? My time is around 15 seconds so I’m not exactly burning it down yet. Thanks
  6. Good Morning gents, for guys with experience with full hip replacement surgery, how long did it take you to recover and go back to shooting matches? The doc said probably about 6-8 weeks for normal activity, it’s going to take place right in the middle of the summer season, I just wanted an idea about how long the recovery process is, there are a few matches I really want to shoot this year. Thanks!
  7. I ended up snagging a BUL Armory Classic in 9mm, from GP Arms great customer experience very friendly and answered all my questions. My wife is a 1911 girl so I’m excited to have something that she will come out and compete with. We looked hard and the Springfields but this had everything we were looking for in a package. If anyone wants an update I’ll be glad to give a range report after we get it and take it to the range.
  8. Thanks, that pistol fits right in the budget I appreciate the help!
  9. I wanted to see if anyone had any review on the Fusion Reaction Pistol in 9mm? My wife has decided she’d like to try some single stack minor shooting in the coming year. We have looked for a Range Officer with not much luck with the Ronin coming out. Does anyone have experience or recommendation on the Fusion guns? I’ve read mixed reviews but it’s one that falls in the budget. Thanks
  10. I’ve been really interested in this match this year after hearing Max on the 3 Gun Show, does anyone have info on dates for the 2022 match?
  11. Mikey, do you have a shop that works on Smith’s for competition? Thanks
  12. I’m shooting a Shooters Connection belt and love it, it’s perfect for what I need it for and I’ll probably purchase another for a single stack setup
  13. As a guy who is just getting back in myself, I have shot a Glock 17 in Limited minor along with carry optics. I like the fact I can load my magazines up with less reloads. Even as a newer guy coming back I really would enjoy shooting some single stack. I think a decent shooter can transition to different divisions that will assist them in their main division that they really want to compete in eventually. Main thing is having fun with what you shoot.
  14. Thanks for that addition. After only a few matches I have gotten really excited about this. I’ve been with a really friendly group of people. I think the one thing and Steve Anderson has mentioned it on the podcast is a ton of advice. I have found one guy shooting M, that I listen too I have found that more helpful than everyone sort of throwing their guidance at the new guy. I do get the fact they are trying to be helpful, but right now the focus from every match for me is one takeaway that I can work on not 35
  15. Thanks, all great information. I recently picked up Steve Anderson’s books and will go the Dry Fire and confirm by practice method. I just got hooked really fast, but I don’t want to get caught in the excitement and miss the improvement part. I will take the advice as mentioned above and select a match to attend after putting in some extra work. I agree in that purely shooting matches will not gain me the growth I’m looking for.
