  1. This is absolutely correct. I probably used too much 1 shot & didnt wait long enough for it to evaporate but I use the same process with dillon case lube & never had a problem. I do tumble lube removal after loading. I dont mind since Ive never had anymore ultralight squib loads.
  2. I understand youre loading on an automated press. Are you using hornady 1 shot lube? I personally & I know of others that have experienced multiple squibs using 1 shot. Literally had 1 bullet stick in a cardboard target....... nearly stuck in barrel. No more 1 shot, no more squibs.
  3. It is not against the rules to bend over & pick up the mag but it is opening the door to several possible DQ offenses. Just follow the r.o. commands & then after " range is clear" pick up mags or look at targets or scratch what itches but HOLSTER that gun as you follow his commands. Turning your body square with & Pointing at the back berm is always a good idea during ULSC COMMANDS. Ive seen so many folks come soooo close to breaking the 180 holstering their pistol while turned towards the last target in a stage. After youre done shooting, turn face downrange & follow range commands.
  4. There is a huge pressure difference between 152pf & minimum 165 but more likely 168pf ammo. Thats why. Thats another 100fps at least & as anyone who has ever reloaded knows pressure growth to velocity is not linear but is curved. BTW feel free to load major ammo & shoot it in a 9mm limited gun. You are not forbidden, just wont get major scoring. Give it a try just see if you like it. Lol
  5. Yigal I cant find any of those for sale here in U.S. There may be, I just couldnt find 1 to check price for you. I found several BUL models ranging from $500 to $3000.
  6. Yes that is right but you will still be in whatever class youve attained
  7. You cant move back a class without a special reason submitted to uspsa.... so not sure where you got that number. You can be a C class in 1 division & a B in another but any division youre classified in can never be more than 1 class lower than your highest classified division. You cant be a B in 1 division & a D in another as an example
  8. There it is... Hornady 1 shot. Dig around forums you will find quite a few folks have had this issue. I know I know.... people will argue it all day but let me say I had this problem before & when I threw away the 1 shot & started using another lube, its never happened again. Edited to add 2 things... 1 it happened several times in 1 large loading batch I ran(2000) & second, my bullets left the barrel but some of the light poof ones could be visibly seen going downrange.... iow barely cleared barrel
  9. I shot glocks in uspsa limited major for 16 or 17 years. Great tools but let me say when I bought an sti, it sure felt good! Ryobi is fine. Glock is fine. Stepping up to a higher level gun in fit & build quality was a nice move though & I am glad I did.
  10. Here is something I posted when another shooter was asking about custom guns... mostly applies to your topic also but honestly Ive not seen any RIAs so not sure what to say about them. If youre wondering about quality & reasons to go custom vs off shelf vs discount you might apply some of this to your thoughts.... especially the part about your personal occupation & the tools you use to make a living. Im not sure you can call an sti a custom gun at least not directly purchased from sti. They are nice guns but not customs. They are sort of hand built but not to a customers specifications but to the particular model specs they are building that day. Now an sti parts built or gun modified & sold by any number of the gunsmiths people talk about on here is closer to a custom gun. Perhaps the gunsmith works with you on what you want on or in the gun (bedell)or perhaps they just do things to a stock sti they think should be done then resell it (brazos) Either way its still an sti. I like sti, dont get me wrong, I have 2, but both have had things done to them. Still neither is a custom gun. Infinity is closer to a custom gun sort of like ordering a new car. You pick options off a list & have svi build their gun with these options. There is more handwork, more care & subjectively better parts put in svi guns than sti. A true custom gun has the builder working with the customer. You work together deciding many of the options you want or need in this gun. Hand size, trigger length & pull, recoil impulse, sight choices, weight, balance forward & rearward on gun, & of course appearance of gun. The difference between an off shelf sti & a true custom gun can be dramatic. Problem is does a new shooter know what they need? Not really. Also will you truly utilize & appreciate the difference? Least custom to most: Off shelf sti Modified or tuned sti, dawson or brazos Smith built gun using some sti parts, bedell Option chosen infinity off website Smith built gun with svi parts, no builder name for certain here but heard limcat uses svi parts...not sure Full custom built gun with each & every possibility( within that gunsmiths parameters) discussed & decided upon. Atlas will do this along with akai I believe plus there are others. There is no shortage of good gun builders that will build you a real custom gun. Sti is about the least custom (still nice guns) on up the food chain. Ask yourself if the tools you work with to make a living matter to you...computer guys...is basic keyboard just fine & dandy or do you wish you could have 1 built to your liking? Me I work with hand tools. I like wood handle hammers. Ive got 3 hammers Ive had for 30 years plus. I put new handles in them the other day & I am still shaving & scraping adjusting them to fit me. If you can appreciate a tool(gun) built to your specs, shop out a custom, if not, buy something less custom, less $$$$, less time & go on. If you want to impress your friends then have someone do something nifty to it to make you feel its made for you personally...trigger job or fancy finish.. steel grips are big deal now. Then you can be all proud of your custom gun...hahaha. If you shoot a glock or whatever you shoot( which I did for 17 years), could you close your eyes, have someone put a glock in your hands & still w your eyes closed know if this was your gun or not? If not, dont waste your money on a full custom... if you know your gun by the feel by the weight by whatever makes it different & special to you, then a custom might be in your future
  11. Stoph If you look carefully & compare dillon dies to other brands, you will see the opening of the dillon die has a bigger flare than say a lee die. This is to facillitate feeding into the die. What you get in exchange though is other brands of dies will resize lower. This is why lots of folks use other brand of resizing dies. Problem w square d press is your dies are proprietary. To work around this, try lowering sizing die down until it contacts the shell plate a tiny bit before full stroke of the handle. You should still be able to pull handle full stroke, its just flexing or common term, "camming over" the handle. If this seems offensive to you, you can always grind a tiny bit off the bottom of the die. I use my regular old belt sander I use when building cabinets. You dont need to take much off! If you remember that the 9mm cartridge is a tapered round & is larger at the case head than the bullet end, you will see why this can help your sizing do a more thorough job
  12. Comment on major power..... the only place you can be scored major with a 9mm/38sc bullet is in Open. Doesnt matter actual velocity. You can shoot 357sig & be scored major in limited but 9mm/38sc will always be minor except in open. 1911 in 38sc wont really be competitive in open...... In single stack, you will be minor so discussion is a little bit moot. But I like 38sc..... if all other things are equal. Lol
  13. This is my favorite. I also make sure to have jackets or something covering anything that might be visible from outside. I make sure covering has a " thrown on" look.... not a "carefully laid covering something up" look...

  15. You had a draw to first shot time of .40? Gosh almighty! Those are Bob Munden speeds!
  16. Just curious but what caliber & how many rounds they hold like they are?
  17. Funny....all the ad hype...picture...all the words & nowhere does it say what caliber. Only real hint is "4 22rd mags". This gives away fact it is a 9mm. Hahaha
  18. You can shoot DAO in limited. Look at all the glocks & springfield xd guns. There is possibly a disadvantage with the trigger pull being dao but plenty of matches are won with them.
  19. At buds it is $1833 today & doesnt come with a dot or big mags.... also doesnt say who's mags will fit.
  20. Im a limited shooter so this is my viewpoint. Not only does it take more effort to move heavier gun, it takes more effort to stop the heavier gun. Plus the further out on the gun the weight is, the more leverage that weight applies to your grip both starting & stopping movement. However transitions are only half the consideration.... recoil for splits is when you want more weight further away from your grip to reduce muzzle rise.... Oh boy, now what do you do? You find the compromise that works best for you. Give up some here to gain some there... There is 1 more thing to think about on weight distribution. Slide closing. 3 years ago after shooting glocks exclusively for 15 or 16 years I went to an sti edge stock gun. Definitely an adjustment. I shot the stock edge for a few months when I bought a 2nd used edge for a backup. Turns out this gun has a very lightened top end. I ran 1 mag thru it & my stock edge became my backup. Lol. Felt better & I shot better w the light slide. Well couple months ago the light slide suffered a fatal fracture. Lightened too much. I went back to the stock edge. I went from a lot of 2A to A, low C or A, low D. I thought I was seeing my sights on 2nd shots but I was at least partly just feeling it I guess. Heavy slide slamming shut driving muzzle down as I was breaking 2nd shot. Ok poor operator skills I know but it showed me lighter slide is a better fit for me. I am now about to have stock edge slide lightened & a new slide lightened & fit on the other gun. My compromise is a lighter slide. You have to determine yours.
  21. I dont think youre too old. Ive got a buddy started uspsa about your age. Hes 72 now & still working to get better everyday. He did go to an open gun with a red dot on it. You may want to start at a steel challenge match where theres no movement. Oh btw, my friend beat me last match.... & Ive been doing this 20 years.Im barely an A class shooter. Main thing is compete against yourself. There will always be someone younger or faster, thats out of your control. You can control you. Efficiency is the real key to success in action shooting sports
  22. Im gonna say its not foot speed youre missing but efficiency of movement. You can brute force speed your way thru a stage but if youre not efficient the old guy with so so knees & recent back surgery will have a better score.... Explosive movements are important but top speed isnt as critical as efficiency.... imho
