  1. Depending on your ammo cost, you will have to shoot a lot of 3 gun just to break even on the cost of another top end. My 40 minor loads cost about .01 more than 9mm. Brass recovered may mean more, but around here a lot of people are jumping off of 40, so brass is plentiful.
  2. For me it was very natural to disengage the safety after my weak hand had made contact and I was tightening my grip bringing the sights up on target.
  3. FWIW, none of my guns have ever had one. When I try others that do, both open and limited, my thumb never touches the rest. But I run with a thumbs up grip. Those that have them around here swear by them in open, but in limited not so much. I think if you trained with it you could see a huge difference. Just trying it out might not see the benefit.
  4. I shoot SS major with a Trojan 40 and would not give it up for anything. The PM9, while not cheap, would be my first choice in a SS minor gun. Hands down.
  5. As others have said, hard to beat wood for weight. Aluminum MSH, aluminum magwell of your choice, and Hogue woodys make for a pretty light setup.
  6. The Shot Show Special that I have is an absolute dream to shoot. I have used it in IDPA and 3 gun. While I have a perfectly good 40 cal LTD gun, I have strongly considered shooting the 9mm for Lim minor just for kicks I like it so much.
  7. Most popular around here is the DAA. When I upgrade from the Bladetechs I have, the Racers will be where I go.
  8. I have found that picking up a used 2011 from Enos has been a pretty good way to go. Yes, you do take the chance of getting someone’s lemon, but the people here are pretty darn honest. If you decide you want to stay in limited, upgrading to a custom can be the next step. I did limited for about a year and decided to go back to SS. I know I could sell either of my limited guns for about what I paid.
  9. I picked up a bushing barrel 9mm 2011 as a kind of do it all kind of thing. I have used it for 3 gun and steel challenge. I have plans to use it for IDPA. USPSA maybe for fun, since I do have a 40 Ltd gun. Also just a fun gun. Shooting it feels like cheating compared to major PF guns.
  10. Not that I am a super experienced shotgunner, but the few matches I have shot were all with IC choke and 7.5 shot. I didn’t have any troubles with the setup, just myself.
  11. This is what I did. I started in SS 9mm, bought a LTD 40 gun, then went with a 40 SS gun so I could run the same ammo. That being said, there is something to be said for doing SS minor. As a not so accurate shooter myself, I had a chrono “incident” at a local match that bumped me to minor scoring. Cost me about 10% if I remember correctly.
  12. Anybody have an idea of the when the PM-45 will actually be available? Been drooling over it since I learned of it.
  13. I know this man personally. He is a terrible influence on your bank account. ?
  14. Loading 4.3gr TG under a 180gr coated bullet has me at 177ish PF. Just for fun I grabbed some 155gr SWC and didn’t change anything. Same OAL and charge. Ran fine but was still at 155ish PF. I couldn’t feel a recoil difference unless I was really trying to. I was trying it for a cost savings as the 155s are about 1.5 cents cheaper a piece and work great for steel challenge.
  15. I have shot SS major with both 45 and 40. Currently shooting 40 in a Trojan. The change to 40 happened for me due to getting a LTD gun in 40, made it easier to have 1 load/reload for 2 divisions. The recoil is different between the two, but preference is subjective. Reload cost for me is about the same. Bullets cost about .01 more for 45. Brass recovery is the issue. My local matches are pretty good with brass picking, so that slows loss rates down. I have also found sources for buying once fired brass at 5.5 cents for 45. Buying 40 will still run you 3.5 cents. Overall, .03-.05 more to reload 45. At the reloading cost, it would take 20K to 40K rounds just to make up the cost of buying a 40.
  16. I have 2 guns with C&S kits in them. 40 Trojan set at just short of 2# and a 2011 at about 2.25#. Both with 17# springs. No ignition problems with CCI, Winchester or S&B. I have handled a few guns with EGW kits. I don’t think you could go wrong either way, but I will stick with C&S due to personal experience.
  17. Has anybody added or machined a light rail on a standard dust cover 2011? We have occasional night matches here and having a light would be.... necessary. Anybody shed some light?
  18. Not quite the same model, but I bought a 9mm Shot Show 2017 2011 that shot way too low. Dawson doesnt make a front sight low enough to fix it. Contacted STI with my numbers, they sent out a taller rear and shorter front. Shoots dead on now. Great service.
  19. I have looked a lot at many different “silver” coatings. I have a hard chrome Trojan that I shoot in SS. I love it. I have two 2011s that I am waiting for the factory finish to get beat bad enough to warrant re finish. Hard chrome from Metaloy or Armalloy looks good. I love the really basic beauty and ease of maintenance of mine, just wish I know who did it (bought mine used this way) Robar NP3. I have handled a few guns coated with it. Very nice looking, seems to hold up well. Downside... it is slick. Like a high polished blued gun with oil on it. Great for wear and tear, not so much trying to rack the slide. WMD Nib-x. Fell in love with it after seeing an old A5 redone in it. Looks great, supposed to be tougher than HC. Also supposed to be slick, so there is that. Never handled a gun done in it, so no personal experience. Hope this helps.
  20. I used the ICE magwell for quite awhile. While it is fantastic, a lot of shooters around here have switched to the techwell. If I were buying a new one, I would most likely go techwell.
  21. I have the exact same gun. Anything for an Eagle will be fine. I am planning on a Red Hill to replace the Bladetech I am currently using.
  22. I have a LDC Bull barrel limited gun in 40 and a SDC bushing gun in 9mm. The 9mm gun feels like cheating in comparison. I feel it is much better balanced and doesn’t seem like you are steering a freight train around. But it really does come down to personal preference.
  23. I don’t load long for any of my other 1911/2011s, so I figured to start with my standard 180 gr Titegroup load. 1.12 OAL. Haven’t made it out to even shoot it yet. Main thoughts are #1, this is my first 40 1911 without a ramped barrel. #2 is mags. I use Wilson Combat in my Trojan and they work great, was wanting to try the Tripp mags, both the standard 9 rounders and the System 10 rounders. #3 is the front sight. It has a white dot sight, want to change to FO, not sure of what the front cut is. Pics will be forthcoming when I get some time ?
  24. I run 6 on the belt plus a start mag. I haven’t needed that many in quite awhile, but I like having them. The Double Alpha pouches set bullets out don’t take up much room.
