I have found myself in possession of a PM7 in 40. I have scoured the interwebs and found very little data out there for this particular model. I am just looking for any experiences, knowledge, tips, tricks, black magic formulas, etc.. that people may have. I currently run a Trojan 40 in SS and have many other 1911/2011s, so I know the platform. Anything at all might be useful.

The one I shoot the most has probably 4K rounds on it with no change. I don’t dry fire much, but I don’t see where it would cause a problem. Other guys in my area have well over 10K on them with no issues. I have another 2011 and another 1911 that I want to upgrade and they will both get C&S stuff. I love them.

I have never used EGW but I have heard good things. I have 3 1911/2011s with the Cyl and Slide kits and absolutely see no reason to change. They are super crisp and all of them are set between 2 and 2.25 lbs.

This is the best question you should ask first.

I have used a lot of TrailBoss in 38 special, 44 special, and 45 Colt. Meters well, shoots soft.

I use the Bladetech doubles. But I am blessed with enough real estate on my waist to run 6 mags bullets forward without having to reach too far back. Most average to smaller guys have to run bullets out to get enough mags. If I were to run bullets out, what is popular around here is the Double Alpha pouches modded to mount bullets out. I am told it's easy to drill and remount but I have not personally done it.

I started in the 2011 game with a used Edge. I have had zero issues with it. Several friends have bought brand new ones. Some needed minor tuning (extractors, slide stops), others ran like a top from day one. If you are just testing the waters, hard to go wrong with a used one from here. Just my personal experience.

With home cast 158 SWC and coated 158 SWC I have used anywhere from 2.9 to 3.3 gr of Trailboss. Very soft and very accurate out of every gun I have. 2 inch j frame all the way to 7.5 inch Blackhawk. Only chrono out of a 4 inch gp100. It was laughable at 750ish fps. Great powder for plinking.

I came from only shooting mil spec. Since the SD3G was a gift from a friend that didn't like it, I took it and found it delightful. But there is a reason I am going 24C on the next build ?.

According to the 2017 SS Nats survey, majority still shoot 45. I have both a 40 and 45 Trojan, both shoot great. Not that I am knocking high end and/or custom guns, but it seems that a Trojan would be just fine.

Most of the guys around here run a 24C. I plan on a 24C for my AR10 build for heavy metal. I currently have a Geissle SD3G. Both are great, just not cheap.

Played very little with dots with borrowed rigs. An original Delta Point, 2 DP Pros on CO rigs. Another DPP on an open gun. As an iron sight guy, I will say the DP and DPP are fantastic. Shot a couple things with Vortex dots and IIRC a FF3. The DPPs were easier to find and contrast and have been through several thousand combined rounds between all the rigs. I like Vortex in general, but I have seen more than one go in for warranty.

Little more old school, but there are 2 books out (Vol. 1 & 2) by Jerry Kuhnhausen about the 1911. They were considered the end all and be all of 1911s in the day and contain a lot (some would say all) of the workings of a 1911. Just a consideration. Another thought. Bruce Piatt teaches a custom 1911 build class. He just did one here locally. Quite a few of my friends took it (I was too poor to do it). I have handled a few of the ones built in that class. A great option in the custom department and you get to make it your own. Everyone that took it here gave absolutely rave feedback. So much that another class is already in the works.

I have VZ Simonich Gunners on a Hardchrome Trojan 40. Dawson tooless guide rod and ICE magwell. With Wilson Combat mags it come in at 43.0 ounces. First time I saw 43.1 on a scale (Oregon State 2017) I had a heart attack. They kindly waited for it to settle at 43.0. But 45 1911s have a better chance to make weight. As for the "grippiness", most of my friends call them cheese graters. I work blue collar so they don't bother me. But if your hands are on the softer side, I would recommend a lighter texture.

I shoot Bear Creek Moly bullets. Run great, super consistent size although they run heavy. 183gr is pretty standard on the 180s. Run them at standard OAL out of 2 STIs. Also have run Leatherheads, another nice product.

Just another lower cost option. I picked up one of the Shot Show 2017 STI specials. Doesn't have a real model name. 9mm 2011 SDC gun. I love it! Fairly plain gun, but it is well under 2K. I picked it up to shoot steel challenge and 3 gun with. I normally shoot a 40 Edge in USPSA limited and a 40 Trojan in USPSA single stack. Only thing for you might be that it has a Heine fixed sight. But great balance and feel out of the box. There was one on the classifieds here not long ago. Just an option.

FWIW, after a year of shooting USPSA I just took the level 1 RO class. There were several reasons for me personally to take it, foremost being to be able to help more at my local matches. My locals normally have at least one carded RO on a squad and they run the timer most of the time. Of the 16ish people at the RO class, most were in the 6 month to 2 year bracket in experience. I think most of them were there in the same boat as me. We have enjoyed ourselves at this sport and are now looking to "step it up" both in bettering ourselves and helping more at our locals. Just my opinion, worth exactly what I charged you for it.

My Trojan runs 1.135 out of Wilson 9 rounders like a champ. Couple thousand rounds, no issue.

My general load for super light 38 was 3.0 grains of Trail Boss. TB is a cowboy action powder designed for cast boolits. I have used it with lubed cast, coated, and plated. 125 or 158 grain. Super accurate in all 4 of my revos. Does not make PF for USPSA. I think the 158grs chrony at 600ish fps.

Slim grips = slim bushings. My 2 Trojans both got standard VZ grips with the factory bushings.

Well, I have all of those chokes and the ammo seems to work. Sounds like I am ready to make a pretty decent fool of myself ?. Thanks guys.

I picked up an SLP to replace my 590 for 3 gun. I know there are differing opinions on them, but it was a deal I could not pass up. It is completely stock. Older model, so it has both pistons. Only tried stuff with the light piston. 2 questions. First, what choke do you recommend for a do it all? I have a couple different ones, but I am not at the level where I feel that comfortable trying to guess what I need for an individual stage. Second, what ammo do you recommend? It has eaten everything I have put in it so far, no reliability issues. Running the light piston for now. I have a Cabelas in town, so Herters target by the case is my cheapest option. I am very new to 3 gun, been a USPSA shooter for about a year. Advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Friend of mine just picked one up in .40. Super nice balance and finish. I am switching back to SS this summer with a Trojan .40. If I stay in SS I would very strongly consider a Classic and make my Trojan a backup. That said, my friend did have to tweak the extractor a tiny bit on his.

I have experienced the same issue with my Edge. Two other Edge shooters around here have also had that problem. They both went with the Ed Brown. I have an Ed Brown on order. All three of us have fairly large hands, so I would say it is at least somewhat common. Hope this helps.
