  1. 4kg or 10lbs? Sorry, bad metric joke. I've been running a 10lb for the last two years, trying an 8lb now. I honestly don't seen much difference though. The guide rod is cheap insurance and Patriot's lightweight guide rod is an easy way to help balance the gun.
  2. Did either of you use insurance to cover part/all of the cost?
  3. It's called latex gloves people! Keep the smutz and lead and nastiness off your hands! Would you handle dog poo bare handed? Anyhoo - Any of the coated bullets are good to go. Price varies about $0.01 per bullet per Manufacturer, everyone has a 5%-10% discount out there. Profiles vary widely. Either purchase 5-10 sample packs from different vendors or just go whole hog, flip a coin, and buy 10,000 of the winner.
  4. That's a function of titegroup. It did the same thing to my brass running ~133pf. Other powders did it less, some not at all. The only thing I can guess is when the slide starts back, the barrel unlocks allowing a portion of the brass to be exposed to the chamber area, resulting in the smiley of soot.
  5. Any luck getting new pad(s) from Shock Bottle? @rowdyb do the Hennings not lock the gun, just prevent auto-forward? Confused as to the actual outcome.
  6. Just out of curiosity, how much money in parts/tuning do you have into the JM?
  7. Welcome back, I'm down in Spring Branch, where are you shooting? And you scored big time! If all you've got is some surface rust that's pretty lucky!
  8. I edited some stuff out... haha. Seriously though, nix the work crap. Improvement takes a lot of metal effort. I’ve had a few complete crap show major matches due to taking calls or sending work emails or general stress because the boss was a dick about taking time off. Either shut off the phone or go during complete off work hours. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Not to be a jerk, but it sounds like you've gotta figure out what mental connection is happening at "warm-up" and recreate that early on. Is it just mental focus? Comfort behind the gun? Mental confidence you can do x, y, or z in live fire?
  10. What changes that you start feeling that "breakthrough"? Is it just getting warmed up or switching to different drills? In general I feel multiple practice sessions are better, but it's highly individual. I'd rather push on if the session is going really well and skip the 2nd session. But I'd also skip meals to pay for more range time.
  11. @TimH good to see you back around. @Cgoliver970 listen to Tim, he is a world class GM. Focus on EVERYTHING ELSE right now. You've seen the math, 1-1.5 seconds per stage in splits (if that) are not dragging you out of first place. Go watch some of the Nationals Top 16 YT videos, it aint their split speed winning matches.
  12. Get Stoeger's book, Dry Fire Reloaded. Work on the slow fire trigger control and trigger control at speed. Follow the instructions, pay INCREDIBLE attention to how you are gripping the gun, how hard, how it feels, how your trigger finger feels, if you're pulling the trigger with the entire hand etc. If you can honestly master, or get close to mastering, trigger control you'll be way ahead of the game.
  13. lowest common denominator. Idgits use bearing grease in northern winters & it gums up. Sun baked idgits in the south use axle grease in the summer which catches sand & dirt and it gums up. Gun Oil doesn't really collect junk and stays pretty fluid in most temperatures. Don't want warranty calls? Tell them to use a lubricant which causes the fewest issues. Is it the best? I dunno, not a Mech E. or Chem E. but do know business models. Not a bash against Atlas, I'd expect most builders to follow this advice.
  14. No cons to the 650, I love mine but the actual motion of reloading is the exact same as a 550. Although for about $1k with bullet feeder and case feeder, lubed cases make it a breeze to load. You'll certainly increase output over the 550. I average 900 per hour if I go that long, normally it's ~500 rounds in 30 minutes. Pro to the 650 - it can be automated. Probably not the best press but still doable. Although I'm waiting to upgrade to a 1050 for the swaging and better functioning automation.
  15. Why? If it is functioning and he is making PF at the load & OAL there is no need to change. Unless the accuracy isn't there. Get a load that runs the gun, is accurate "enough" and FREAKING PRACTICE. Don't chase the "perfect load" fairies. Well, unless you don't want to get better and tinkering is your thing.
  16. Kinetic bullet puller? That is the bullet bouncing back, hitting the case mouth. Only way to avoid that is a collet puller in a press.
  17. except you have to log-in to use it. If you're an idgit like me and forget the log-in, it's no good.
  18. So I've been reading Peak - Secrets from the New Science of Expertise, and have begun to implement Deliberate Practice techniques in my dryfire. Instead of pushing to go faster, I'm hitting par times for nearly every drill in the books from Stoeger and Anderson, it is now a focus on specific technique. For examples, isolated dry fire for 12 minutes on trigger pull (aka Trigger Control at Speed). Focusing on how it feels to pull the trigger straight back - hard - into the frame, without moving the front site, and isolating the trigger finger. This was done in both double action and single action. Many little things to pay focus but it really worked well. Overall spent 30 minutes on deliberate dry fire with a focus on grip & trigger control. Interestingly enough I noticed many more small key points with my vision, how my grip felt, tension in my strong hand & trigger finger etc. I was much, much more engaged in paying attention to my dry fire.
  19. No, it's not. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it a weak spot. I've loaded ~15k on a 650 without a flipped or sideways primer. Unfortunately, your press needs some adjusting or it's something to do with your bench/process/press operation.
  20. Try some grip lotion for sure. My support hand fingers slip when I get a little sweat rolling down my hands, even with ProGrip sometimes. Regarding grip style, see what works for you. I'm in the process of changing grip, seems to be for the better although it seems counter-intuitive to what the WWW tells everyone.
  21. Kinda like how Limited and Open are now?
  22. Did he win? We members have a say in what happens to the Organization.
  23. @Sarge I can see your point but don't think we will go down that slippery slope.
  24. Huh? I don't see anything bad with this. Production 15 I could take or leave, it will get REALLY close to Limited Minor at that point.
