  1. I honestly shoot because I enjoy the training/practice. I feel like I always need to be better today than I was yesterday and to do something today to help me be better tomorrow than I was today. I used to be really addicted to lifting weights because I was hooked on trying to lift 5 more lbs than I did in the previous workout.
  2. I used a Comp Tac International for an STI Edge on a Boss hanger. Worked just fine with my DVC Limited, but I came across a Safariland 014 for a good price and decided to try a race holster for a while.
  3. My carry guns and my competition guns all wear plain black rear sights and fiber optic front sights. I also almost always carry a gun with a light on it (G43 + TLR6 or G19 + APL typically) and always have a handheld light in my pocket.
  4. Shape and material the hammer is made out of as well as spring rates. I suppose the firing pin and firing pin spring could play into it as well. I have 2 2011s, a DVC Limited and a Tactical DS with EGW internals. The Tactical hammer makes a much higher pitched sound when dry fired vs. the DVC.
  5. Based on my experience and a few guys I shoot with, this is what I've seen wear out and/or break: Recoil springs (wear out over time) Trigger springs (break) Slide release (spring wears out/breaks) Slide stop (spring wears out and will no longer lock open on an empty mag) Striker (tip breaks off) Ejector (tip broke off - replaced the whole trigger housing) Striker channel liner (as mentioned above, if the slide gets cerakoted this needs to be replaced) Slides (cracked by hard use, breach face can break from dry fire) An extractor is probably a good part to keep on hand as well. I've never worn one out, but I can see it happening.
  6. I switched from a G35 to a DVC Limited about 6 months ago. I haven't been able to shoot as much as I'd like, but I'll admit it took a while to adjust. From day 1 I could shoot more accurately, but it took a lot of work to get used to going fast with the shorter trigger travel as well as a trigger that moves straight back vs. pivoting at the top.
  7. This is completely normal if you're gripping the gun high.
  8. The gun recoils completely different with all that weight hanging off the nose. Front dips a lot when the slide goes into battery...at least it does for me with a Glock 17 and Tirant 9.
  9. My main gun started hammer-following in practice today. Glad I have another gun even though I'll likely have it fixed before my next match...
  10. A few draws in the safe area when I put my gun on and some stretching is about it for me.
  11. I did the "shock buff" pin job on my STI Spartan V last weekend. Finally got it to the range today, and everything is going well so far. Wish I had done it sooner.
  12. After this weekend I'm adding a squib rod to my bag...
  13. I've had no issue with 200 gr Blue Bullets loaded to 1.135" using Titegroup. There was no discernible difference in POI vs 180s for me. I am using Way of the Gun Y notch sights.
  14. I have the opposite problem - for some reason I always aim about 2/3 of the way up on the A zone and sometimes with a "good enough" sight picture (if I were aiming in the middle!) it's enough to hit the C zone above the A. Take a dry fire target or two and draw a small black dot in the center of the A zone. Use them along with your regular targets until you're consistently driving the gun to the center of the A zone all the time, then toss them or use them for partials/no-shoots.
  15. As has been said, feeling the reset is a waste of time. When I competed with Glocks I did a lot of dry fire with a zip tie keeping the gun out of battery so I could pull the trigger freely over and over. There is no break or reset. After a while of that, I noticed that during live fire I never paid any attention the reset any more.
  16. I had a G17 cerakoted (after milling for an RMR), and the slide started wearing the day I got it home. If finish wear bothers you and you want to use a gun hard, hard chrome is pretty much the only option.
  17. I had an SVI trigger bow fitted to mine and use the medium flat shoe. Other than that, just add good mags and a pile of ammo. You may want to tinker with recoil spring weight, but that's largely personal preference.
  18. Ear pro (lots of foam plus + electronic muffs) Eye pro Gun Magazines Ammo Outer belt w/ holster and pouches Timer UpLula AR15 MagLula Various paper targets - printed dots, stick-on dots of various sizes, 3x5 index cards Pasters Stapler Staples Glock armorer's tool Glock front sight tool Hex wrenches, metric and standard Leatherman Sunscreen Pro Grip First aid kit For a match add: 2-3 protein bars Water, Gatorade, or both And after reading this thread I feel like I should add my mag cleaning brush and some toilet paper.
  19. My DVC did not have TiN on the feed ramp when I received it (new).
  20. I cleaned a lubed a G22 then shot over 2100 rounds without cleaning or lubing again. It had no failures and no signs of any problems. I don't think any of my other Glocks have gone much more than 1000, but I am confident they all would.
  21. I have VZ Gunners on mine along with grip tape on the front strap and an Ed Brown "snakeskin" mainspring housing. The texture is just about perfect IMO. It's rough but not too harsh as long as you shoot/dry fire regularly.
  22. I don't really care one way or the other. I rack from the front, but right in front of the chamber instead of way out front where the serrations usually are.
  23. If you're going to buy an off the shelf gun and shoot it as-is, they make sense. If you start swapping much more than the trigger and maybe sights, you might as well spend the money on a custom gun. I bought an STI because I wanted to make sure I would be happy with the platform before dropping $3-4000 on a custom build. I'll eventually buy a custom gun and keep the STI as a backup gun.
  24. I wear Peltor Tactical Pros. They're bulky, heavy, and expensive, but they have the best noise reduction of any electronic muffs I've ever worn and are comfortable despite the weight. I wear plugs underneath and turn the volume up in the muffs so I can hear people talking. Works great, especially around rifles with brakes and Open guns.
  25. So it's picky about everything and something always needs to be tweaked or tuned? :-D Only kidding...sort of.A RO 9mm is my next gun purchase. I think the RO is the best bang for the buck out there.
