  1. I agree with "Sarge" on this one.
  2. + 1 The rule is pretty clear...break it and you go home !
  3. I agree with "motosapiens"and "Sarge". An experienced RO will watch and see more than just the shooter.
  4. I've shot 38 short colts in my 929 with no problem....size and load with 9mm dies and use moon clips that fit 38 special cases. Have not tried going back...should be no problem using the correct dies.
  5. I have not tried every pistol powder out there...but what I have...Titegroup was dirty and hot compared to all other powders. N320 and Sports Pistol have been the cleaner and most consistent in metering....velocity and accuracy of all the powders I've tried. Titegroup got so hot in my revolver after a 32 round stage you could brand cattle.

    XD/XDM

15,000 plus rounds through my XDM 5.25......2 failure to fire rounds because of high primers....my fault. They both went bang the second time through. Most reliable pistol out side of the revolvers that I've ever owned.
  7. About halfway through 8 lbs of Sports Pistol with no accuracy or any other problems. Two different coated bullet manufactures and three different bullet designs...145 and 147 grain. Just destroyed a 1 inch orange dot with 10 shots at 15 yards this past week....now if I could just do that without a rest.
  8. Should be no problem....unless you have a very aggressive crimp on a coated bullet. Which the OP says his are "lightly crimped." You should be good to go.
  9. I've had good results with Blue and Bayou bullets....147/145 grain.
  10. 3.1 grains of Sport Pistol with a 147 grain coated RN bullet at 1.135 OAL give me a Power Factor of about 130 with both my XDM 5.25 and a Custom 1911. Very accurate in both.
  11. If this helps...my load is 3.1 grains of Sports Pistol with either a 145 grain Bayou Bullet or a 147 grain Blue Bullet...both round nose....OAL length is 1.135 for the Bayou and 1.130 for the Blue. Powder Factor is 130 with either my XDM 5.25 or a custom built 9mm 1911.
  12. I'm really CHEAP !!! I use paper towels...count out 100 cases....spray one side with ONE SHOT...lift paper towel using two corners and pour into tray for reloading. I've even been known to reused the paper towels more than once...Hey...it's not toilet paper.
  13. +1 for the KKM barrel....shoots a ragged hole at 15 yards. As for the ports.....you probably won't gain much advantage shooting minor power factor with a heavy bullet.
  14. I've loaded over 20,000 Winchester primers through my 550 with no problem after taping a 158 grain bullet to the top of the follower rod in the primer tube...thinking the extra weight would help gravity.

    929 Brass

Had some problems with Star line brass sticking in my 929 (???). Winchester, Blazer and Federal brass works fine....with the same bullet and load. Winchester seems to work best with .035 moons. My barrel slugged at .357 and with 147 grain or 160 grain .358 coated bullets I get great accuracy and no leading .
  16. Hey....we're not grading on a curve here. A safety infraction is just that...whether it happens on the first stage or the last. It's a DQ for the "MATCH".
  17. Yea ....Know the feeling.....3 targets (6 easy shots) from the end of a major match and a division win. OUCH !!! Maybe I should've asked for a re-shoot...lol.
  18. Just a question......and not trying to start anything. Blue Bullets doesn't say anything about Teflon in their coating....they say....it's a "Proprietary Polymer based liquid coating that we mix in house (not powder coating)". Am I missing something here ? And I'm sorry about deviating from the OP. Our coating is a proprietary polymer based liquid coating that we mix in house (not a powder coating.) The bullets are sized after the coating has cure ting is a proprietary polymer based liquid coating that we mix in house (n are sized after the coating has cured to ensure a consistent and round bullet. Our coating is a proprietary polymer based liquid coating that we mix in house (not a .
  19. 3.1 grains of Sports Pistol pushing a .356 dia 147 grain coated bullet at 1.135 OAL averages about 880 fps. This is what I get from my XDM 5.25.
  20. I had my local Gunsmith cut my cylinder for moon clips finding it faster on reloads than the HKS 587-A which is a 7 shot speed loader for the 686+.
  21. I'm always a little nervous every year before the annual exam....not wanting to fail...which I have. But in doing so I also learn more. Thankfully Corporate is generous and on my second test I passed. Although I don't like tests...I believe this one is necessary for our sport to keep us familiar with all the rules...new and old.
  22. My latest 1911 is a Custom built 9 mm and it runs like a sewing machine. I'm lucky that my shooting buddy is a Top Quality Gunsmith. He's built Race Guns and Competition pistols for some Top Shooters over the years and I wanted one before he decides to retire. I had a quality 1911 in 45 acp....he used that frame and built the new upper slide into a 9 mm. As for the components needed for the build I left that to his knowledge and experience. Now I have two 1911's that fit on one frame....oh.... and one of the first 5 shot groups out of the 9 was a ragged hole at 15 yards.
  23. I like the new classifiers...we shot all four of the new ones plus two others last weekend at our local club. Ran a little short of making Master....about 20 % short...but had a good time.
  24. Your XDM should eat Montana Gold bullets like a kid eats a candy bar. Over the past I've played with different bullets and powders and the 5.25 XDM shoots everything....some a little better than others. I settled on Sports Pistol...3.1 grains and 147 grain Bayou RN. This combination has proven to be not only the most accurate but also the least expensive and cleanest.
