  1. I use the Bob Vogel type grip with the left hand rotated a little more forward. That moves my left thumb quite a bit more forward than would work with this positioning. My slide lock lines up with distal joint of my left thumb. It would probably require moving the 3D forward two screws. Is that doable? Or would a different finger rest work better than the 3D?
  2. Kinetic energy is equal to 0.5 times mass times velocity squared, but kinetic enegy doesn't have a real directionality to it. Momentum is the product of mass times velocity and it assumes the mass is moving in a straight line. So momentum may be more relevant to knocking things over. Many pistol shooters who are trying to flip an MGM spinner go to heavier loads, probably for the higher momentum. Looking at white box Winchester 9 mm: 115 gr at 1190 has a muzzle energy of 362 but a momentum of 136,850 (gr x ft/sec) 124 gr at 1140 has a muzzle energy of 358 but a momentum of 141,360 147 gr at 990 has a muzzle energy of 320 but a momentum of 145,530 And I once saw a guy shooting .45 ACP wearing a Tee shirt that read "sometimes fat, slow and heavy gets the job done".......
  3. I don't have a Versamax, but honestly who will argue with the combined expertise of Benny and Daniel Horner?
  4. My recollection of the long thread was the recommendation for the 65 shim to solve the problem described. I put that shim in before shooting my shotgun just based on the home fitting done with the guidance of the Patrick Kelly PDF linked above. My gun was then POI=POA at 50 yards with slugs. I am 6'1" for what that's worth.
  5. I will predict he's using the flush with the end of the barrel IC choke that comes from the factory installed on the 1301 Comp.
  6. And I'd heard IC was the 90% way to go? Guess we all need to get off the internet and pattern our own personal shotties with our preferred ammunition.
  7. We don't need no stinking forend or clamp sling mounts! Get a sling adapter with a short paracord like loop and slip it over the end of your magazine extension, attach the other end to the stock and adjust the length to whatever you need.
  8. Went with a Nordic +5 and the Beretta Optima HP extended chokes, nearly the full line, buying them when on sale. All work great. As far as "having to buy a wrench" my 1301 came with the choke wrench in the original packaging. I find using it for a quarter turn or so, as mentioned above, was all that has been needed.
  9. See how fast those voices called for the enhanced trigger guard for the Beretta 1301 Competition? Please let that inform your business decisions.
  10. Another try to load the Word file after deleting some but not all pictures of other's loading port modifications. Beretta 1301 Com 24 reduced size.docx
  11. While reading through the long Beretta 1301 Comp thread I copied and pasted to create a Word document with some relevant photographs for my future reference. Here is what I had about the Kick-Off system. Hope it is helpful. Thread about Kick-off stock options: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=200498 I emailed Beretta customer support 4/13/16 my kick-off questions, got reference # #160413-000006 they said Xtrema2. I installed Beretta stock # C87927, this is the Xtrema "Kick Off" that replaces the butt pad, but retains the factory buttstock. I bought it after discussing the issue with a Beretta tech. http://www.berettaus...ystem-xtrema-2/ I like it. It minimizes barrel movement during recoil and retains your sight picture better. It does add about 1/2" to the LOP.
  12. Yes, but be careful to get the right one of several different models. I believe it was the one for the Extrema 2. See reviewer comments. http://www.brownells.com/shotgun-parts/receiver-action-parts/recoil-spring-parts/recoil-spring-hardware/kick-off-system-xtrema-2-prod29047.aspx
  13. Beretta 1301 Competition compatibility?
  14. Put a Nordic +5 on my 1301 Competition less than a year ago. Took it apart yesterday for deeper cleaning of the gun and found the spring rusting on a few coils. Only used it once on a rainy day and even then it was under a roof except for two to three stages. What did I fail to do that might have prevented this? What will restore it, or should I just replace it? Are there any consequences for the inside of the tube? Never lubed it, because didn't want it to be a dust magnet.
  15. Was there information in the owner's manual that came with the shotgun? Also, there was some talk of this buried in the long 1301 discussion thread.
  16. Put one in my 1301 Competition about a year ago for similar reasons, bad shoulders. Working great. Being 6' 1" and relatively long arms, I didn't mind the small addition to length of pull. At the time, it was more than $50 cheaper from Beretta than Brownells. You said 1301 Tactical. If you didn't mean 1301 Competition, then my comments are irrelevant. Not sure if the stocks are interchangeable.
  17. Sending guns out of California is a nightmare. At least that has been my experience: I took a pistol to UPS once to send it out for nickel boron coating. It was already disassembled, boxed, etc. The UPS guy looked like he was going to call the police. So I went to my LGS. They charged me for an FFL to FFL transfer for sending it out and only after the recipient provided their FFL. Then the LGS charged me for the background check before they returned it to me once the work was done. There are almost no LGS left in Los Angeles proper, as the local regulations are prohibitive.
  18. At a certain point it is not the shotgun, it's the shotgunner. Roberto Vazzoli has won multiple international shotgun championships with the Beretta 1301. Look up his loading port mod elsewhere on this site, probably in the 1301 megathread, or other 1301 threads. Or go to YouTube and watch some of his lessons. I have used a 1301 for almost a year with a +5 Nordic and the stock follower without problem. Not much competition though. The aftermarket follower is another form of insurance against Murphy's Law. Mr. Murphy has the knack of showing up at the worst of times.
  19. As a thin 67 year old with tired joints, I put the Beretta Kick-Off in my 1301, so it's a very soft shooter.
  20. Then go do it and finish the story!
  21. Not only that but if you have the honor of living in the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia you have the privilege of having it sent back to you through an FFL, with a state Dept of Justice background check, $35 fee and 10 day wait. Just in case you became a felon while your gun was being customized, of course......!!
  22. Doesn't the 1301 come with a factory IC choke? What's the advantage of replacing it without at least trying it first? Mine is POA/POI for slugs with the factory choke.
  23. No love for the Beretta 1301 Comp in a 24" version?
  24. Great shooting "New Guy"! Reviewed the Beretta website Optima Choke HP constriction options and didn't see one called "Diffuser". Is there another name for that choke?
