  1. Is the QD necessary at the front? How about a QD at the stock end of the sling and a paracord loop around your mag tube at the other end? This setup works fine on my Beretta 1301 with +5 Nordic mag extension.
  2. Yes, but depending on the screw threads and length it may be compatible with an aftermarket product that meets the OP's needs. Beretta advertises it as removable and replaceable.
  3. Check your length of pull also to be sure it shouldn't be longer. Your right arm looks pretty flexed up.
  4. I would lean toward the Trijicon dual illuminated for a tactical shotgun with the automatic "on" tritium at night and the fiber optic to vary brightness for the daytime sunlight. Looking to put one on my home defense Glock when the budget allows. Simply cannot see the front sight anymore unless wearing shooting glasses, with my right eye corrected to about 24 to 28 inches for front sights of pistols and long guns. When that front sight is in focus the rear is very blurred. Be sure to give us your impression of the Kick Eez once in use. Consider removing your front sight to determine the screw size and threads. It is likely metric (Beretta made in Italy) and may well be compatible with regular aftermarket products. The TRUGLO sights I put on my 1301 Comp came with several different thread sizes in the package.
  5. Old John you made reference to aging shoulders, how's your Vision? Have you considered a red dot mounted on that short Picatinny rail? They are more expensive, particularly one that will stand up to the sharp recoil of a shotgun. I have one on an old AR, and am considering one of the smaller ones on my Glock 35 with backup suppressor sights.
  6. Several have mentioned the HIVIZ and others TRUGLO for fiberoptic sights. At 66 years old I put a Beretta Kick Off system inside the stock of my 1301 Comp last spring. It puts two parallel shock absorbers between the stock and the butt pad. Never owned a shotgun before, but this was and is very tolerable. It added about 0.75" to length of pull which was okay, since I'm 6'1". Kick off system Xtrema2 ($359, C87927) from Brownells but only $250 from Beretta. However, I don't see that model # on the Beretta website today and it's out of stock at Brownells. If interested you may need to contact Beretta Customer Support. I found their response to emailed questions unpredictable, ranging from near immediate on my first two contacts, to over two weeks more recently. Therefore, I switched to telephoning them instead with good result.
  7. This question comes up every few months. Most respondents favored 24" over 21" if I recall correctly. i believe Taran himself chimed in once saying he used 24" but was beginning to consider 26". since you're planning to send him your shotgun for work, consider asking his advice now and let us know what he says.
  8. Vezzoli was 2015 World IPSC Shotgun Champion. The videos gave the best views of his loading port and lifter mods that I've seen. The 45 degree lifter trim looks like a great way to avoid thumb bite.
  9. Ran into three videos featuring Roberto Vezzoli and the 1301 Comp. Some of the information is great for beginners like me and some for more experienced 1301 users, particularly the close-ups of his loading port and lifter modifications. The first is an overview: The second addresses set up issues including length of pull and several close up views of his loading port and lifter modifications: The third is an introduction to shotgun handling that also includes a modified quad load where he drops the first into the chamber, then puts the remaining three into the tube.
  10. What is the tightest choke you feel safe using with slugs. I have an 80 round box of Fiocchi Low Recoil 7/8 oz 1300 fps slugs and a Beretta 1301 Comp. Going out today for the first time to see if POI is POA using stock IC choke that came with the shotgun.
  11. Emailed Beretta about this, but got no answer. Called customer service today and was told M4-7.5, presumably meant m4-0.75, although that was not a size in the conversion table I found via Google. He also said the 1301 Comp and Tactical were the same.....
  12. If the 6-48 fits, then it's likely either M3 or M3.5 with a thread pitch close to 48 per inch. Hopefully Beretta will get back to me soon. Here is a metric to English conversion reference for fasteners: http://elginfasteners.com/resources/metric-bolt-conversion-metric-to-standard-bolt-conversion/
  13. What red dots are you all using on your shotguns and why? How do they hold up or hold zero? Price?
  14. Go gently with that tap since you are dealing with aluminum threads in an aluminum receiver. There are 2.54 centimeters per inch or 25.4 mm per inch. A thread pitch of 0.7 (distance peak to adjacent thread peak) is 25.4/0.7 or about 36 threads per inch. The holes are shallow, so there might not be enough depth for the thread count to be as relevant as a deeper or longer threaded hole. This would be especially true if the OD of the 6-48 is slightly undersized or less snug that the specified screw. The aluminum threads are thin and potentially forgiving, but also may be easily mis-threaded or stripped. I emailed Beretta Customer Service yesterday and await their reply.
  15. Yes, it was. However, Kurt pointed out the shotgun is Italian and likely has metric parts. I confirmed another part was indeed metric. We both suspect the rail mount screws will also be metric. I stand by my original recommendation to email Beretta's customer service. They will answer the question. Testing screws runs the risk of stripping threads.
  16. Yes! It takes a 6mm hex wrench to adjust the seating depth of the sling swivel cup in the stock.
  17. Or email Beretta's customer service. They've been responsive to me several times.
  18. Try emailing Beretta's technical services. They've answered several questions for me, usually within one to two days.
  19. First do you mean a QD sling swivel attachment? Second, by didn't work, do you mean it would not stay attached? IF yes to both, likely your socket is screwed a little too deep into the stock. Use a metric Allen wrench, 6mm I think to back the socket out of the stock a little, testing as you go to find when the QD will attach and stay attached. If that solves the problem, I was you a week or so ago.
  20. it is a known issue. the first fix is to insert an allen wrench into the QD mount and back it out a little bit to see if it will catch (the mount can be recessed into the stock too much). that worked for one of my QD swivels.but on another swivel, that still wasn't enough to let it catch so I removed hte mount from the stock and ground down the top of the mount until the swivel would catch and then re-installed hte mouunt back into the stock. Thanks, that worked. I emailed Beretta who said to use their QD swivel, they couldn't guarantee an aftermarket one to work. I went to their online store, the product was too expensive, but another product reviewer there made the same recommendation. Cannot believe I didn't think of it myself, since I previously removed the socket to install a Kick-Off system. Derrrr!
  21. Has anyone had problems with the QD swivel mount in the 1301 Comp's stock? Took the plastic plug out of mine and my Troy Industries sling swivel would insert but not catch. Also, earlier in the thread someone made reference to a Carbon Arms product to install a sling swivel cup on the end of the Nordic magazine extension tube. Is this the right product? If it threads on the inside of the end of the Nordic tube, does that leave the outside threads exposed? If you have a picture of it installed that would really help me grasp the concept. http://www.carbonarms.us/Shotgun-Parts-mag-tubes-and-more/Carbon-Arms-VT-cap.html
  22. Just be careful if you happen to live in one of the restricted states I live in Georgia these days. I moved from CA about 2 years ago. There's no restriction on tube magazine capacities in CA. Just putting it out there. Yet another spot where CA has it better than NJ in terms of gun laws. Amazing. Not too sure about that. The way I read PC 16740, the only tubular magazines that are exempt from the 10 round maximum are tubular magazines affixed to 22 caliber and lever action rifles. I could be wrong I think the NRA has interpreted it that way, also. 10 round magazines are 10 round magazines.
  23. I have to bury the mid bead dead center in the front bead to even get close. If I do the figure eight, its even higher off target. Have you made sure your fit is correct? Several different stock shims come with the 1301.
