  1. What is this talk of a "P10 Match"? Something officially in the works? I'm sure it would be the perfect production division pistol. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  2. The Tactical sport is only for limited division. The shadow is for production division. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  3. Let the tinkerers tinker! There is already a gear race, that will never change. Letting people improve their cheaper guns will allow their gear to run with the already legal custom shop guns. The best shooters will continue to win. No one would lose anything if the rules were relaxed. Returning the rules to the apocryphal "original intent" of production would seriously piss off a lot of people and hurt the org. Keeping things as-is would just be turning a blind eye to a real problem in the production gear rules as they stand. To paraphrase what I heard a shooter say at the last match I shot, "The real value of USPSA organization is it's ruleset".
  4. Is there any difference at the feed lips? I need mecgar 17 round 9mm bodies here in colorado, but I can't order them with the 15 round limit here. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  5. I shot the P-120 in a match today for the first time, my first time ever shooting production division. The pistol ran great & accurate. Twice I let my weak hand thumb ride the slide, keeping it from picking up the next round. That's all on me. I found the pistol to shoot very flat, and the plate racks were much easier to clean than with my .40 TS. An M class shooter even mentioned how flat it shot. In my match videos, I don't really see any muzzle flip when I'm gripping it. Right now I have the original TRS in ( bent my reduced power TRS) and a 13lb hammer spring, so the trigger pull isn't anywhere near as light as it could be. Even like this, the pistol was adequate for coming in 2nd production on a longer course of fire. I'll update again when I put some new parts on it, or put a trigger pull gauge to it.
  6. So I fitted a cz sp01 extended mag release. I knew it would require a little work, per CGW's expertise. It wasn't too bad. I chose to file the frame, instead of the release because of ease. I used a small round file to remove a small amount of the smaller radius of the figure-8. Then sanded it smooth with high grit paper wrapped around the file. Works great! 7. I only use TG, for all my pistol loads. Keeps things simple, it's cheap and it just plain works. I clean my pistols regularly, so it's relative dirtiness means nothing to me. To me, if I can make a reliable load with the cheapest powder out there, then I find the load I like and then never rethink it again. I've had very high-level shooters suggest I try other powders, but shooting their ammo side-by-side with my own, every other round, I couldn't tell a difference between the two.
  8. Cgw confirmed that the sp01 mag release is compatible with minor fitting. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  9. I plan on putting everything Cajun offers into this gun eventually. Extended magazine release will be first. Then adjustable trigger, then hammer. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  10. I bought a Tristar p120 for $400 as a project gun for dabbling in production. Since there isn't much info on these out there, I thought I would start this thread and update it as I tune the pistol. Since I shoot a CZ TS in limited and hadn't messed with a da/sa pistol in years, I was amazed at how heavy the trigger pull was out of the box. Apparently it's about the same as an SP01 out of the box. Which means it needs springs immediately. The fit and finish are superb. Machining looks better inside the slide than on my TS. It does not have actual bluing, rather it is a good even cerakote. (You can also get this in a silver cerakote). It came with 2 mecgar 17 round mags with the +2 extensions. The 3dot sights it came with were good enough for daylight defensive use, but not for USPSA. To get started, I ran 50 rounds of factory ammo through it, then 200 rounds of 135 PF bbi ammo I loaded. No malfunctions at all. At 9 yards i was able to match the accuracy of my TS. I've run another 500 rounds through it since and it continues to run flawlessly. It also runs defensive ammo with no hiccups. In the hand, with factory grips, it feels just a touch larger than an SP01 with factory grips. I bought some new takeoff CZ factory rubber grips to make it even bigger, and they were a direct fit. For sights, I installed dawson precision FO front, black fixed rear for an SP01. Front sight was direct fit, rear sight needed just a touch with a file, about the same as I would expect if it were being installed on an actual CZ. I could tell that the slide was a little bit high behind the dovetail, but I just tapped the sight on in. Trigger function was improved greatly by swapping out springs and following kneelingatlas's guide to tuning a CZ. The TriStar does not come with a trigger that is adjustable for overtravel. This can be bought from cgw, but as of right now would not be legal for production. There's also some creep in the trigger because the hammer hooks are deeper than what you would find on a competition gun hammer. Again, cgw sells a race hammer for this pistol. I'm betting production rules change soon and this will be allowable. In the meantime, the trigger is nice enough now after polishing and swapping springs that I don't see it holding me back at all. And, all CZ Springs are a direct fit in the TriStar. Dislikes so far: *It needs a longer mag release. *No beveling on the magwell. *Fit is secure in a bladetech SP01 holster, but doesn't click in quite like I would like. *Safety is stiff. I'm used to the giant CZC safety on my TS, that works as a thumb rest. The TriStar safety is much more difficult to hit. *the adjustable trigger, hammer and extended SP01 nag release are not legal for production, yet. (As of 10/17). Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  11. Dry fire enough, and soon you're sights will be aligned the second your gun is out in front. Then it will be perfectly clear why that flat black is all the info you need for an excellent sight picture. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  12. In case anyone comes to this thread looking for the same answer, I ended up with a regular Blade Tech holster for an spo1. It fits just fine for competition use. I think the TriStar trigger guard is narrower than the CZ trigger guard, so it doesn't really click into the holster at the end. It is still a secure fit though. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  13. I switched from a glock to a cz ts. I had the same issue, mashing the trigger harder than needed, and I had to unlearn prepping the trigger. Once you get used to it, it is easier to shoot fast splits. It's just gonna take time to get used to it, and shoot it as confidently as you did with your glock. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  14. I'd be wary of getting a holster from aliexpress, but I have found that the mag pouches work fine. They aren't as nice as the real thing, but they function. Also, I've had the same Chinese velcro inner/outer shooting belt for 3 years, and while it may not be as rigid as a nicer belt, it has worked fine for my 2x matches/month. 15. Glock took 1st and 3rd place at limited nationals, so your cheapest option just might be your best, a G35. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  16. Great, thanks! Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  17. This is frustrating. I buy 140mm basepads and I trust that they are just that, 140mm. Now I need to buy a gauge to verify, and it sounds like chances are several or most of my mags are going to need work to fit.
  18. Uh oh. I better check my mags. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  19. I was able to shoot my buddies long 2011 ammo reliably as well, but since it runs perfect at 1.13, I'll keep going with that. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  20. I'll find out for sure this weekend, I have several friends with an SP01 Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  21. No replies, so I'm guessing not many have this pistol. I'll have to post a review. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  22. Hi all, Can anyone verify if the p-120 fits an sp01 holster? Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  23. I had this post up on my computer while I replaced all the springs and polished the internals of my tristar p-120 I bought this week. Thanks you professor Atlas!
  24. Change the springs and sights how you like. CZC only for the basepads. There are no big gains to be had by doing anything to the trigger.
  25. I choose my recoil spring weight by judging how the sights settle. It's a given that the brass will eject, and I don't care how far as long as in doesn't hit me in the face. Too heavy of a recoil spring seems to cause the front sight to drop as the slide slams forward. I'm sure running a light recoil spring will reduce the life of the pistol. I but I want to shoot the next shot sooner, more than I want the gun to last forever. Just my opinion, it's a subjective thing. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
