  1. Tonight I'm shooting my first match with the G35, pretty excited to try it out. I'm still not used to the grip angle so I'm not yet instantly finding my front sight upon draw. that'll come. I installed the Zev race connector and competition springs yesterday and wow what a difference! I've got to be careful now- I've grown so used to pulling in the take-up before I've quite got my sights dead center, but now there is no take-up, just boom! Also, the G35 is 10oz lighter than my previous pistol and follow up shots are much more challenging. I'm hoping the qualifier tonight doesn't involve 6 shots in a row on the same target. Doubletaps are manageable but I'll be slowing waay down to get through 6 shots and still be keeping track of that front sight. New sights are def. next on the mods list.
  2. bigtimelarry- the link goes to a mag release that is not Gen 4 compatible.
  3. I just saw that Glockstore has exactly what I was talking about for the gen4--- an extended mag release with the screw on tab that extends back. Nice! I can't provide the link for some reason, but the item is called "Ext. aluminum Mag Catch for Glocks".
  4. Hey all, I have a g35 gen4 that will be my Limited gun. If they call that factory mag release "extended" then how tiny is the standard release? I really need a more extended one, preferably one that has the screw-on tab that also extended it towards the backstrap. I have very large hands but may they aren't a flexible as they should be because I really have to strain to push in my factory release with a minor grip change. I'd love to keep my strong hand in position and drop a mag without average effort. So, who makes a great one for the Gen4?
  5. Picked up the g35 and shot it for the first time today. Wow is it accurate! I dry fired it a few times and thought "what the hell is that?" You just pull until it breaks and you feel all these parts moving inside. Not a heavy pull, but just really weird. Anyway, I took it out to the Nat'l Forest right next to my house and fired a box of junk Tula ammo, just to make sure it would feed the worst ammo possible. The first 8 shots were all touching and 2" high. a slight adjustment to the rear sight and it was all bullseyes. Doubletaps were very close to eachother as well. I do need to get used to that grip angle though. initial sight picture after draw is always way off. So, I'm beginning to understand what all the Glock hoopla is about. Question: Does my G35 gen 4 have an extended mag release, or is that only on "g35 practical tactical"? My mag release only sticks out 1/16" from the grip. I was hoping for closer to .25".
  6. Well, I bought a G35 today. I paid for one from a private seller and I'm expecting with fingers crossed to get a shipping tracking number Monday. It really did come down to price- The Witness Match was 50 bucks cheaper but boy are the upgrades expensive compared to the Glock. The Match comes with 1 mag vs my deal where I got a basically new G35 with 4 mags for 600. The Arredondo mag extensions are 35 bucks vs 60 for the witness. I'm looking at it like this: Glocks have to be popular for reasons bigger than their popularity with rappers and their relatively low price. It's a chance for me to give the platform a try and if it turns out I hate it, I can sell it way faster than I could a Tanfoglio. Then I'll just buy the Witness Match. wktasz: Nice g24! Doing the hard chrome on the slide really helps with the looks. A local company, Rock Your Glock, will hard chrome my slide for $75. It's low on the needs list as far as upgrades go, but it's high on the 'wants' list. First up though is a FO front sight, grip tape and a magwell.
  7. Yes, the glock 24 is an option too. CTD has them for 660. I'm not certain that extra inch will help all that much but it is tempting. It does make an ugly gun uglier though, that's for sure.
  8. As much as I prefer the Tanfoglio, I'm thinking of giving the Glock a try. If I don't like it, I can likely sell it fast for as much as I am into it. The Witness will be harder to sell even though I believe it is a better gun. Besides, if I got the Witness Match I feel like I'd always be wishing I had the Elite Limited.
  9. Please guys, I'm not switching to production. I already reload for .40. I'm already classified. I don't like 9mm. Just isn't happening! I'm really just looking for help in selecting a new Limited gun.
  10. I like the second option you presented- I am simply not going to switch to production. I'll start looking for a P16- that would have to be the next-best-thing to an STI and would provide a platform that I could easily transition from to the STI, if the financial situation changed a lot.
  11. I can afford the upgrades as time goes by. I am a person that has to tinker with things and customize things. I'm a woodworker and finish carpenter- custom is what I do. Limited really is the only division I'm interested in (and classified in).
  12. Hey all, I know I need an STI Edge, but it will never ever happen in the foreseeable future. It would be an irresponsible purchase for a family man with my income. So, I need the next best thing. I have about 650 to spend. I've been shooting a hi-cap copy of the beretta 96, and I'm selling it this weekend to buy something that has an aftermarket parts availability. I wouldn't sell it if I could get mag extensions and a magwell on it. Here's my options as far as I can tell: Tanfoglio Witness Match Glock 35 M&P Pro 5" maybe an XDM 5.25" if I can find a deal I'm leaning heavily towards the Witness Match. It seems like the weight will help a lot with follow up shots. I like that the G35 comes with 3 mags and there are tons of cheap aftermarket parts but I have never shot a glock and I'm not sure we'll 'bond'. I like the M&P price and the fact that it comes with a FO front sight. I like the barrel length on the XDM but honestly I think it's an ugly gun- almost as ugly as a Glock. I know that shouldn't matter, but well, you know... And in Colorado I'll have trouble acquiring the 16 round mags. I really want to make a good decision here and I'm hoping you all can give me some points that maybe I haven't thought of.
  13. Good stuff here. I'm a new shooter and from the few matches I've shot, the two main differences I see between the GM/M shooters and the rest are 1. short splits and 2. They actually RUN. I can't shoot as fast as them at this point but I'm a young athletic guy and I can run. This upcoming match I'm going to try to break out of the fast shuffle and move into actually busting ass towards my next place to post up. Moving while shooting is another thing though. I can walk and shoot but anything faster is going to take a lot of practice.
  14. I kind of disagree here. It's a crime to buy or sell a mag above 15 rounds in our state. That pretty much is the definition of a mag capacity limited state. I'm surprised that so many are willing to admit that, yes, this will keep new shooters from engaging in a fair competition. That situation isn't conjecture. I am a new shooter in that boat. I started out in USPSA months ago and the only division I am really interested in shooting is Limited. The pistol I use takes 16 round mags, and fortunately I have 7 of them. But, no one makes a +4 or +5 mag base plate for my gun so I am already realizing I need to upgrade to a glock 35 as an economical upgrade or work a lot of Saturdays for an STI. I can buy those pistols, but I'll have to drive to another state in hopes of buying the 20 round magazines for those pistols. I'd almost certainly get away with it, but the truth is I would actually be risking losing my concealed carry license and maybe even would get denied by the system in a FFL background check for a gun related misdemeanor (if caught). That's something to really think about. And besides, how shady would you feel scratching off the serial number on a magazine. I think a lot of people will consider the cost and just choose not to risk it. Imagine not being able to legally own a firearm over something this stupid. The business-as-usual approach might work for now, but if our state laws don't change you have to admit that we will have to go to a 15 rnd limit at some point.
  15. You can come to Colorado with your hi-cap mags. We just can't buy them from you. So, if you did come to shoot a match and we were following these USPSA rules to the letter, you'd just load to 15.
  16. I just read the new rules and rule 3.3.1 states: "In states where competitors are restricted by law to maximum magazine capacity, that maximum capacity will be the maximum allowed for all competitors in the contest." In Colorado we just had a new law take effect that limits magazine capacity to 15 rounds, unless you owned it before the ban took effect. I can keep and use all my hi-cap mags but I cannot acquire any new ones. So, does this legal-for-me-to-own condition allow me to use the mags while shooting Limited? Well, that's what I'm assuming we're all going to be doing, which I'm happy with. The investment everyone has made in their equipment is going to cause everyone to cling to this idea of there being a gray area. I'd like it that way, but I realize that no new shooters will ever be able to get started in Limited or particularly Open and be competitive unless they already owned the hi-cap mags. If somehow we don't repeal these dumb laws, it seems at some point we will have to switch to the 15 round limit. I am a very very new person to competitive shooting so I'd like to hear what some more experienced guys have to say.
