  1. Honestly, since you are new to the 2011 platform I would just try to find a used edge or eagle to get acclimate the to platform. All the while trying out the short/long, polymer/metal, non/lightened. Even going from a 10 to a 12.5 lb recoil spring changes how the gun feels and shoots. First you need to decide what kind of shooter you are? Can you handle heavy recoil, how fast are you transitions, what kind of impulse do you like? A light gun is harder to control but will move faster. An all steel heavyweight is a tank but recoils like a pussycat. All things that are considerations.
  2. +1 on the DS perman grips. They take some fitting but be patient and go slowly. Grip tape is the best as the stippling gets a little wonky on them.
  3. What are the issues you get from weak magazine springs?Imbalance in slide speed and round presentation from the magazine. The first sign of worn/weak mag springs is typically FTL and/or jams involving the last few rounds in the magazine. When you start getting these failures...take note. Pretty much what he said.
  4. Cost and power factor for non reloaders.
  5. 6+1 and sometimes an extra two behind the holster
  6. +1 This match is a blast with a quick turnaround. You shoot 8 stages and you can be done by lunch.
  7. No problems ever with my holster in carry on.
  8. Major/minor, compensator, caliber, bullet weight?
  9. Yes. You will just end up with one in a few years anyways if you get anything else now.
  10. I've seen it on the brass that stays out in the humid rainy Florida weather for a while. Or the guys that wet tumble and don't dry their brass after.
  11. Most have triggers at just under 2 pounds. Some use lighter, some use heavier. All depends on what you are used too.
  12. When they start giving me issues I change the springs. That or a few weeks before nationals.
  13. I sliced my fingers open and couldn't close my strong hand fist at all. I would draw strong and transition to week hand shooting for a few weeks until I could grip and handle normally.
  14. Do you know the range commands? Then in this instance you are not the newbie, they are. The problem is that people defer to the "experience" of the older shooters and don't feel right in correcting the range commands. Like nick said. Unless the commands are exact, DQ's have been overturned before and RO'S have gotten a silent chewing off to the side.
  15. You won't be disappointed with the Dawson's. If the POA/POI is off they will make it right by you.
  16. Welcome. Jax is a fantastic place to live from a USPSA standpoint. Every weekend there is a very nice shoot within a two hours drive.
  17. When I RO majors the only thing out of my mouth are the range commands until range is clear. The only time I deviate from that is if the shooter asks me what the start position is. Here is Florida you have a bunch of IPSC guys traveling through and some of the time their grasp of English is not the best. Stick to the current range commands. Sorry to say that you had a bad RO. Talk to the MD or RM and tell them the issue. As a MD I would pull the RO to the side and reiterate what the commands are.
  18. I sent an email to troy about this same issue last week. No response yet.
  19. I am shooting limited and have the Safariland 771 roller pouch on a Double Alpha belt.. I do need a magnet and have that on order from SSI. I will check out the CR Speed pouches. Thanks. If your shooting limited don't worry about it and just get the magnet. You only ever need to grab one extra mag and the one you stuff in the gun. The Cr speeds are the lowest cut rigid pouches I could find. I shot a lot of production mack in the day and now I play in SS so it helps, a lot. I have the 771 on my 3 gun belt and those are great to load from but not to load on the clock. Too tall for me taste, also one of the reasons I got rid of my racemaster pouches.
  20. What pouches do you use? I went to CRSpeed with the SS inserts for this very reason.
  21. Keep the ammo in the shade when not in your mags. Also can use a cooler or something of the sort. You can also test the load yourself. Chrono the same batch but from an ice chest, your hot dashboard, and your bag in the shade. This will let you know how your ammo will react to the weather.
  22. I like them on limited guns but don't on open ones. The comp should be taking care of recoil and you should be going faster. But everyone is different.
  23. Have you ever heard a guy say "I pulled that mike didn't I?" That's talking about it, just not trying to build up on it. Next time you are at a match find the group of competitive A shooters, the ones who are competitive in their class at LII and higher matches. Start talking to them after a run. Ask them if they knew which targets had charlies and which didn't. You would be surprised at the insight they can give. My experience of this ability is roughly broken down by finishing % at well attended majors. 55-65% you have the guys who will start to be able to call a mike 65-75% can tell you some deltas 75-85% can tell you some charlies 85-95% can tell you the majority of charlies Above that they can usually tell you were most every round landed All you have to do is talk to the guys around you, most if not all will try to help you out with what they can.
