  1. If you only ever practice slowly you will only ever be slow. Smooth is good, actually it's great but sometimes you have to practice with ridiculous speed to see your limits and how to work up to them. See how fast you can go before you aren't smooth. I say to get your fundamentals down, that machine like draw, then increase the speed until it falls apart. Find that balance point and try to go from there.
  2. If you are shooting a major match and you need the guaranty of making power factor I suggest buying match ammo at an event. BUT, you have to purchase this ammo for that specific event. Let's say you buy 2000 rounds at a certain state match and keep that ammo to use at the following Area match but it fails to make major, you are shooting minor. Even though you bought that "match" ammo, even though it is the same supplier of both matches, even though they do not really change their recipes. You are shooting minor if at all. Just because it is "match ammo" doesn't make it any different but you are paying an insurance premium. I just load my own and make sure it'll make the required minimums.
  3. Dry fire is usually quicker for me. Since I picked up a SiRT I can actually see if I am on target so my times are slowing down. I chock that up to actually seeing if I am "hitting" my targets. Let's see how this really ends up with some more time.
  4. I second this, a pre-match jog is great at getting the juices flowing. But of course I swing by w/e coffee shop there is around and have a few shots... of espresso. Then you have to hydrate, a lot. First thing to deteriorate when dehydrated is eyesight.
  5. Personally I use the run, stop, run, stop technique. I know it is flawed but I primarily shoot production. What I have seen with this is that the time in between the stop and shoot is too slow. Practice getting that sight picture as you get into a shooting position should shave some time off. Or you can just grab your empty gun, focus on that front sight and take a few steps. Watch that sight and try to get that thing to not bounce. Small steps help as well as rolling your steps. Hope it helps.
