  1. There is no comparison. The JP-5 wins hands down for reliability. Recoil the JP can be tuned extremely easily to be as soft as you like. One of the CBP guys on our squad, John, was running duty ammo that looked like Steel Challenge loads with a 60 degree lock piece. You will be extremely happy with any of the JP-5's. I have personally run down to 100 PF and up well over 150 PF without issues. If it's me picking, I'd go with the MLOK hand guard and 3 port compensator but that's getting down into the weeds and have more to do with preference for hand size and aesthetics. Let me know if you have other specific questions on the -5's.
  2. Not necessary. If you find you want less recoil go with a 70* but the 80 ran HST's just fine for me.
  3. It's been cancelled due to the hurricane. Being moved in to March in '23 according to the Practiscore email.
  4. You either call it good and move on or you immediate call it a miss and make it up. Sound is objectively too slow. You are holding yourself back relying on it as a crutch.

  6. Rowdy was correct. Calling your shot at the sight picture is the fastest way. Waiting to use sound in any capacity to confirm hits is far too slow. Imagine waiting for a 100 grainer to get all the way out to 25 yards travelling at 800 fps! And if you pop the stop plate with a primer only hit you'll never hear it! Squirrel, in light of what I wrote above I would make the strong recommendation you look for ear pro based on comfort and noise reduction. I always double plug with both inner foamies and over the ear muffs. MSA Sordins with the gel cups are the most comfortable. I have found that I tend to be able to wear them much longer on hotter days. You can get well into the depths of noise reduction and even target the frequencies we experience during shooting. Companies like Sound Gear can make you custom molded plugs with various levels of sound amplification. Again, I would strongly recommend you prioritize improving your Steel Challenge ability to call hits based on visual cues and focus your search for hearing protection on comfort.
  7. Here's a few of mine in a Dropbox folder. Let me know if you have questions. LINK
  8. Yep, that's normally what I did. I figured it was cheap enough to replace the whole thing and have peace of mind, kind of like mag springs once a year.
  9. Yes, that is the short stroke, 5 stainless model. Yes, the o-rings are a special chemistry for the application.
  10. And genuinely will talk to anyone on the range, discuss stage plans openly and be happy when they recognize you
  11. I have shot all of those. If you want the softest load that makes PF, 150 Syntech or equivalent coated will be the least recoil into the shoulder. If you want stupid soft, run 90 grains as slow as you can get em to the plate!
  12. I'm seeing 69 entires. Y'all keep not signing up though. I'll be gettin' a trophy for sure!
  13. Nah, I don't need to declare Syntech as Certified. It's been good at so many matches for so many people I don't even bother with the form. What I really can't fathom is people skirting so close to sub-minor. It's a huge time investment to train up to get there in the first place. The issue of other certified ammo coming in below PF providing a get out of jail free card was one of the original concerns with the program. Abuse like this makes folks lose faith in the system.
  14. Surely no one is claiming new components were used, put in a box and claimed to be factory? It's not like the certified ammo is a get out of jail free card after all! For reference, actual factory Syntech 150's chronoed 136.9 PF in my Shadow 2
  15. Doesn't affect me in the slightest. I went straight from CO Nats to a PRS match Sat/Sun and had a blast at both matches. Keep drinking that Hater-Aid. What's hilarious is people saying, "You should only hit GM if you shoot it in a match." Congratulations bud, you're now competing against Nils, who stomped a paid pro "Simon". 3rd place Brantley finishing under 95% means sorry dude, you didn't get a GM class despite finishing 3rd out of 400 shooters because the internet says you're a paper GM. Next people will claim Sal and Kimmy aren't GM's because they didn't shoot 95% of the winner. Here's an even more fun example: Area 8 Open - Sailer 100%, some non-GM chump named Tilley 94.59%, random guy named KC something or other 89.01%, and a guy in some NASCAR-like yellow named "Les-gar" at 86.22. Good luck to anyone showing up to a match Sailer is shooting Open hitting GM. Snark aside, attaining GM closely parallels attaining black belt in a martial art in competition. You have demonstrated each and every skill necessary to merit the rank, but in competition there are levels. Are you not an extremely high level black belt if you only get 2nd in the Olympics? Travis Stevens is terrifying.
  16. How much are they wanting to make? The only thing that doubles is ROs and steel. Reg staff, stats etc are all the same. Water is negligible. WSSC doesn't include shirts or lunch. Range is already rented up top. Heck the steel is already there. So what am I missing?
  17. Well, I submitted feedback on the SCSA site but I was probably not PC enough for that to go anywhere. We are friends Zach. I just think the organization is listening to too much whining about nothing and not taking an objective look at what could jump membership by 10% annually. Solutions: 1) Retention - Offer FREE clinics at EVERY Area, National and World match for juniors taught by the best shooters. 2) Recruitment - Offer 1st year FREE to anyone who shoots their first SANCTIONED SCSA match. Put a min of 4 stages so they get classified and FFS send them a physical classification card. 3) ROs - Making people pay to take a class to go volunteer is a trash deal. 3 GN and Rob actually had a fantastic RO program. You shot the RO match by day while learning from current ROs. At night you took the RO class. After those 2 days you assisted for the main match. The important part was everything was covered, travel, hotel, match, food, the whole weekend. Add on you start paying ROs better for the weekend and maybe the same ROs we see beat down at every match will get a break. Slots for WSSC gets fixed by running 16 stages, 2 matches. You get enough ROs by 1) training them for free and 2) paying them better to work the match. I know I'm being blunt, but the current proposals do not address the issues I'm hearing for the organization, mostly USPSA but SCSA too and it's all the same pot, hemorrhaging memberships.
  18. Zach, I know you are trying and we all appreciate the time and hard work you are volunteering. However, I'm against pretty much all of this. None of these proposals work towards increasing membership in the new shooter category nor do they grow the RO pool. These are the 2 major issues holding SCSA back and it's going to get worse as Area, Major and Section matches become more popular. These changes are small potatoes, and to be honest, don't add real value to current members. I'd much rather see the SCSA RO cert independent of USPSA as well as SCSA investing in covering RO Instructor fees for New ROs. I would also like to see a detailed plan on recruitment and retention of new shooters with emphasis on NO prior SCSA experience.
  19. People think they can buy skill with gear. Most would rather complain and make excuses about divisions than put time into improving with dry live fire practice. Back on topic, this is an interesting move when Limited is dying and 3 Gun is no where near where it was. I'm curious what the target market is.
  20. That's the ejector. See video below: Roughyl 15:12
  21. Contact JP. My JP-5 cycles that load and far, far lower power factors.
  22. What distance does your local match go out to? What major matches, if any, do you plan on shooting? What is your experience level? Do you have any physical limitations?
  23. Get the steel challenge dry fire banners from Shoot Steel Banners. Best investment I made in improving for SCSA by far!
