  1. I've gone pretty light with loads. It can be done with the 5 stainless short stroke but it's going to depend on a few things. The old 9mm SCS (4 stainless) was easier to get to run with that little weight. Realize you're running pretty stupid light with 80 PF... SCS Spring Weight: Might as well just swap to the lightest spring to start with. Powder and Seating Depth: When you get really light, depending on your projectiles you may need to fiddle with this for optimal feeding and function. Too long and you might not get great cycling. A nice fluffy, fast powder will help too. Mags: Remember spring pressure is going to slow the bolt. Download your mags and maybe even stick with 10-15 rounds in the 17 rounders. Lube: Keep the bolt WET with a nice light oil. Mobil 1 5w20 is great. Or just grab a packet of that Hoppes single use, maybe for every stage. It's not that it wont run a match without lube. It's that you're not putting much energy into cycling so fouling will play a bigger role. Don't take chances I've seen guys do the aluminum weights but the lighter you go there the less deadblow you're going to have from the buffer to work on a blow back bolt. With a light SCS spring that's not ideal. Not saying it can't be done but I would avoid going this route.
  2. Bingo!!! People stay at home because they don't know or don't have a mentor. Focus effort on the big picture.
  3. It is every member's inherent responsibility to help grow the sport. The mission of USPSA is, "To promote safe, fair and fun participation in Practical Shooting competition." The point is there are a hundred other ways to get people involved. Our focus should be on the big picture, not bickering about stages.
  4. Show me the matches that are currently being held that would in any way grow or increase attendance by adding 2 stages. How, specifically, does this grow the sport? What stops that exact same range from running the smaller stages? Your plan has nothing to do with putting in the work to get matches going. I see no value in your plan to add stages. It does not offer any assistance to current clubs to increase voice, reach, access to equipment or opportunities. Your proposal does not have any effect on a person outside the sport. The only thing this does is waste resources better spent on tangible, proven ways to increase participation. Rather than focusing on wasting time, effort and resources on minutia within the sport, why not focus your efforts on the big picture. How for example would you get 10 additional new, never before attended a competition, to a local SCSA match? What plan would you implement to drive that goal? How would you go about convincing a range that does not currently host competitions to host SCSA events? If half the time was spent addressing big picture questions, instead of the nonsense about whether OL is "fair" in the sport or adding this or that stage would do this or that, SCSA participation would have already eclipsed USPSA participation by a significant margin.
  5. 25,000+ rounds later and anyone "waiting" to order one is just going to be behind. I've got my 2nd order in.
  6. I genuinely hope the board does absolutely nothing as far as rule changes for the foreseeable future.
  7. You're equally allowed to safely compete regardless of age or skill level. You are not entitled to change the game to suit you. That is unfair and against the mission statement.
  8. RFRO, depends on your preference. I use a JP-22 with an ultralight barrel and MLOK hand guard. It's significantly lighter than my PCCO JP-5. I don't really notice as much of a difference as you'd think though. For RFPO I prefer heavier but that's due to what feels natural to me. I run a Shadow 2 in CO for SCSA and USPSA. It's heavy. My RFPO at WSSC last year was a 75 Kadet with a X300 to mimic the weight of the S2 with the heavier rail. This year I'll likely run a 6" VQ Mamba. Why? Because the 6" was noticeably less violent than the 4.5". The dot settled much better and was more predictable. Again, that's probably because I'm so used to the Shadow 2. I don't like concussion, even with little CCI Mini Mags. Really the best advice anyone can give you is to ask to try a light setup at a match if you see one. Then you understand if it fits YOU and not someone else. Oh, and I'm definitely not running what the majority of SCSA folks trend towards as far as weight.
  9. Regardless of your motivational thoughts on the matter you can't argue with documented physiological changes as you noted. Yes life getting in the way may increase chances of moving up a place when a youth bows out of the sport. Let's see who ends up being in the top 10 in a few years when the talent pool doubles, slots are awarded based on area placement and centerfire (recoil) participation tanks even lower than it is now.
  10. Anyone over 30 is already 0.1-0.2 behind on every single beep. We can't get our reaction speed back. We can't take the miles off our knees, elbows or any other joint. We aren't going to win HOA at WSSC. Basic movement, 3-4 steps, is a fundamental skill that should be tested. You're competing against other Sr. and Super Sr. shooters just like Revolvers are competing against other Revolvers. Yes, getting old sucks. I'm trying to finish off all the iron sight divisions while my eyesight is still good. No, there's no reason to change the sport because of it. Keep shooting for the enjoyment of it. But never forget it will always be a young man's game.
  11. You can in fact classify with only 4 stages. I've done it. Once you shoot a stage though you have to improve it. For me, including OL is a significant advantage because relative to the field, my knees are young and healthy .
  12. I'm strongly against this one. Dropping the only stage with movement and the two "long" shot stages would be significantly skew the classification numbers. At the very least including OL and SO provides an incentive to travel to other ranges beyond one's "home club."
  13. Edited for clarity, that's total number of entries. If you go into the BOD minutes you can see the membership numbers: •Membership – 34,832 •New Members YTD – 6,511 Although the "New" is somewhat interesting as total membership 2020 to 2021 went 34,875 to 34,832.
  14. Total 2021 Numbers (Entries) from BOD presentation Jan 15 by Jake: USPSA All - 205,598 Revolver - 2,674 (1.3%) SCSA All - 75,170 ISR - 1,085 (1.4%) OSR - 919 (1.2%) This is number of times someone shot a match in the division vs total entries into matches.
  15. Yep, after reading the minutes when they released them I was very happy with your new role. I'm a USPSA shooter too though so I suppose that's the part of me that read the minutes Jokes aside, knowing all the work going on right now, adding a division for 10 shooters doesn't seem like a good use of resources. Expanding WSSC to 2 x All 8 Stages to double match slots sure does sound like a good idea though.
  16. I haven't noticed much of a difference between the standard 3 port and the vertical. There is a difference but people tend to make more of a deal out of it than it is. The reason for the Ti comp is weight reduction at the end of the barrel to reduce swing weight in SCSA to help with transitions. I have shot both comps in both sports. I would decide which handguard your prefer and just order that model unless you're ONLY shooting SCSA.
  17. There's no comparison between a roller delay and any straight blowback. The JP-5 is "short stroked." The "Stroke" refers to how far the bolt/buffer travel to chamber the next round. It's not necessary to travel the same distance for 223 and 9mm.
  18. What specifically is coming up for discussion? @ZackJones
  19. Yeah, I'm not involved with whatever is happening anymore but the big draw for early April was 1) great prep for WSSC, 2) gorgeous weather and wildflowers and 3) minimal conflict for USPSA crossover shooters
  20. The DAA is probably the most effective at this point. It's alright but they cheaped out on the detent buttons that lock it. This is a big issue on the long, rear side legs in the wind. A 5.7 case works in a pinch but DAA should probably update that portion of the design. Having said that, we have 10 of these for our club. We use them for SCSA matches so folks don't have to chase their brass. I also use them when I'm practicing SCSA or stand and shoot USPSA drills.
  21. 3.4 - 3.5 gr of Sport Pistol should get you a nice load. 3.1- 3.2 gr of N320, Bullseye or Titegroup should also be nice. My 10.5" with an Omega 9k was stupid quiet with those.
  22. If you decide you want to skip the hassle I'll make you a good offer on that Ruger. To your question though, I have not loaded the BB 147 RN's that short. I think the shortest I ever loaded those was 1.125".
  23. Emailing JP would be your best bet. I'm not sure which one you're referring to but here's the contact: service@jprifles.com
  24. No worries. I know more shooters are on different sides of this thing right now than they have been on issues in the past. The most important thing is still growing the shooting sports. I do agree that this has merit in looking at future candidates. There will be a lot of names tossed in the hat soon and it's important to know everyone's qualifications and values so we can make informed votes.
