  1. What's wrong with mission counts being distributed back to areas/clubs for spots? The more active clubs get more spots, then those clubs can figure out smart ways to select people from their ranks at the local level. Might encourage more support from top shooters at level 1?
  2. These forums are definitely worth a donation - thanks Brian for continuing to host us!
  3. I'm in eastern Iowa, so not a shooting sports mecca. We've got one match a weekend between the 3 clubs all within an hour's drive (2 outdoors, 1 indoor). The club directors coordinate who has which weekend to make it easy for the local shooters to plan accordingly. Attracting new shooters: range contact info, iashooters.org forum, BE forum, and FB were the places I looked when I got into the sport 3-4 years ago. I didn't care about range conditions or stage quality (I didn't know much about that when I started). I did enjoy having a veteran competitor mentor me the first few matches. Most importantly, I went with one of my friends who was also a newbie. Since then, I've noticed the shooters that seem to stick around are the ones that come with a buddy (or quickly make new friends at matches). Attracting veteran shooters: outdoor clubs can have a little more variety in their 3-sided bays, so when the weather is good those tend to have more participation and bring out some of the more competitive shooters; indoor club sees more shooters when it starts to get chilly outside or when shooters need a slightly shorter match duration. Both have pros & cons. For me, if I somehow have free time overlap with when a match is happening then I'm ready and willing!
  4. Metaloy hard chrome matte finish on my TS frame. I removed all the parts and sanded off the psuedo-checkering before sending. Only $150 plus shipping (FFL item since it still had a serial number on it). Very durable finish, better than the factory polycoat for sure.
  5. Thanks for sharing, looks like a great option
  6. Glad more guys from around here are joining the forum! Welcome from Cedar Rapids! I was chasing you around at Iowa sectional as a C class guy (got pretty tight in the middle of the pack!).
  7. I saw some guys using old jogging strollers at the last match. Seems like a stable option. Not sure how to get the long guns attached, but I'm sure the angle of the seat area would work.
  8. Burris FF3 and CZ dovetail mount is on my Christmas list...just wanna see what all the fuss is about. And it'd be a more rewarding tool to teach first time pistol shooters...and maybe reinforce some good trigger prep habits of my own. Keep Production Optics...err, Carry Optics around for a while. My eyes will eventually get old enough to shoot with red dots only...
  9. 180gr Xtreme, 1.125", 4.4gr WST got 168.7PF from my CZ TSO. A bit on the shorter side from what I've heard others load, but aligns with the specs on the reloading manual.
  10. Looks like 0700 range opens, first shots are 0800, ten stages. More details here: http://www.ankenyikes.org/threads/2016-uspsa-iowa-section-championship.538/
  11. Beyond that, it's too hard to help you contrast guns built for different divisions! If you want something soon, I'd suggest ordering the CTS with a slide in 40 and add a 9mm barrel fitted. Then you could play in production and limited with the same gun! Or get a Czechmate since TSO's seem to be more rare than anyone expected. You could buy a TS slide in 40 from CZC and have all the goodness of a TSO frame.
  12. CTS is based on the 75 SA frame. Grip angle is very similar. Both feel great like all metal framed CZ's. Grip is more consistent on a limited division gun compared to a long DA trigger reach. The under cut beaver tail on the TSO has been very impressive in how it locks my strong hand into the frame. The go pedal stabilizes my lateral front sight wobble. To get a grip comparison before you order, find a dealer with: - 75 single action (same as CTS frame) - Czechmate (same as TSO frame)
  13. I can't compare to a shadow 2 but I've got a regular TS where I've removed the waffle checkering. The TS Orange grip length is shorter and between that and the go pedal it feels like a different gun. More control laterally. I feel like my front sight wags a bit unless I'm really locked into form. But the better checking, reduced length from under beaver tail to under trigger, plus the go pedal make the TS Orange feel more stable.
  14. I'm looking forward to seeing this in action! Recommend either Ghost or DAA for holster. I've got the Ghost The One for the SP-01 if you want to borrow sometime. Might see you at tomorrow's indoor match if I can make it out!
  15. Yup. Wow, that would be an excellent option to add checkering. I've only seen videos of milling the lines manually on a press (JP Customs with Power Factor Show) which is very complicated...
  16. It's worth the try as long as you don't expect it to push you to A! (coming from another B shooter) It might be something new that would make you practice more and maybe that would make a difference. Since you've been doing it a while, I'd suggest a customized SP-01 or Stock 2 since you'd enjoy the upgrades to focus it on competition more than the standard trigger and sights (which leave a lot to be desired). You could probably find a used one on here for a good price, and I think it'd hold its value well if you decided you didn't like it. Best option would be to try someone's at a local club, if you haven't already, to see which fits you better.

    P09 open Minor

I've got a buddy that tricked out his Cajunized P-09 with a magwell, extended mags and runs in Limited. Loves it. Gets 20-21 in the mags in 40SW. I believe he used Springer Precision magwell and extended base pads and grams spring/follower. With a threaded barrel, slide ride optic and Springer's comp you'd have a great $ deal of a Open division fun gun!
  18. Suggest you try one of your slower burning powders, mainly for the volume of powder to have less variation in your load. After that, you'll need a lighter recoil spring. Not sure how light to go in the p320 subcompact to get reliable feeding.
  19. Chuck Norris sights his pistols in at 100 yards. Sorry, couldn't hold it back!
  20. Loaded question. Recommend you try both!
  21. I used CGW's flat 15# spring on my 130PF loads. It seems much easier to rack than you'd expect (not quite an 11# spring on a 75 series). I'm a fan of the flat recoil spring. No experience with suppressed, but I'd assume keeping the 15# spring with subsonic loads should work fine.
  22. Reduce the DA and increase reliability: main spring to 13# or 11#, extended firing pin, reduced firing pin spring, reduced FPB spring. Replace front and rear sights. Shoot a lot!!
  23. That's a good price. I know CZ Custom sells a decocker competition hammer (I put one on my P-01) which will crispen the Single Action. If you do the upgrades yourself, the decocker models are more complicated (mainly the sear cage is a challenge), but you can do the simple spring change (main/hammer spring) very easily. I like the decocker models since the trigger is slightly more rearward (at least where the spring tension starts) for the Double Action. And it's easy to decock the hammer to a Make Ready position with the lever. Here's a good picture-filled thread on upgrades to a SP-01 Tactical: http://www.ncgunowners.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=42855&page=3
  24. I'm running a Ghost The One (SP-01) block with a TS Orange. The Orange's trigger guard is a little thinner than my stock TS, so it does wag side to side. I think the stock TS would be a nice tight fit (might even need to relieve some material to widen the block). I found my draw was moving forward before I had fully drawn the pistol from the lock, so the first day using it I was getting hung up on my draws. That said, I reduced the cant by a few degrees to encourage a more straight up draw stroke and now it has been flawless for the last two months. Retention is very good, frame is aluminum, block is heavy plastic mold, trigger lock is metal. Locking mechanism is easy to rotate once you practice with it a bit. Plenty of adjustments to get it where you want it. I do have some wear on my trigger guard (polycoat CZ finish) from hitting the locking mechanism. I think it's mostly from that first day trying to get the draw stroke with too much cant.
