  1. Rear sight is a fixed sight. Kreutz that's a thought for sure; it would sure have to be a squillionith of a second out of timing.
  2. It's bent in the middle, roughly. Primers are usually WSP or Federals. I thought about the FP channel not being "true" as that's the only thing I can think of. Not sure if there's a cure This firing pin issue only occurs after about 2k rds or so; the sticking appears to only happen AFTER it's bent.
  3. Ray when it's bent it does NOT move freely in the channel. The first bent pin got stuck with the tip protruding through the firing pin channel, this one got stuck inside the channel....stuck so hard that it would NOT move forward enough to detonate the rounds.
  4. No dummy rounds at all, actually. I thought that dryfiring might be the culprit, but no other 2011/1911 I've owned ever had a problem with dryfiring. I've pinged STI with my question/concern.
  5. A new limited gun has bent two firing pins in less than 5000 rounds. What could be causing this, and is it a sign of a significant problem in the gun itself?
  6. I've also found that the top guys are a little more forthcoming in one-on-one conversations. I've found them to be a lot more direct and candid one-on-one.
  7. I'll usually ask why they are selling it; given that this is essentially a new gun it doesn't really matter "why" but it's a good starting point. In the case of a used gun I'd check the guys posting history on any forums to see if he's asking questions "How do I fix a gun I messed up?" and "I can't get this gun to work can someone help?" My OPINION (worth exactly what you are paying for it) is that $2400 is a lot of money. A little bit of shopping and patience would probably get you a 9mm Eagle or maybe an Edge for quite a bit less money. Less money spent on the gun is more money for ammo/matches/training.
  8. Swimming upstream here...... since you are new to 2011s, my suggestion would be to shoot this thing first. Shoot it some more. THEN start thinking about what to change/add/modify. Right now you don't if you like 5" or 6" or 5.4" slides or bushing barrels or bull barrels or Sighttracker or AET or light guns or heavy guns or or or or or Shoot it for a bit is my recommendation. Put 10,000 rounds through that thing.
  9. Finally figured it out with the help of a gunsmith. The hammer, a Cylinder/Slide "warp speed" hammer, has more material on it than the factory STI hammer. The grip safety, therefore, was designed for an STI hammer. The cylinder/slide hammer was bigger in this one external dimension.
  10. That's good thinking! Thanks man
  11. Beer baron that does not appear to be the case. White Dingo-The thumb safety shaft is fine when it is only inserted into the frame, or only inserted into the grip safety........when the its inserted through both (like when assembling the weapon) that the spur does not go all the way through. Appears to be getting hung up on the holes on the right side of the gun. The hammer and hammer spur do not appear to have any impact on this issue. What about taking some fine sandpaper to the thumb safety spur?
  12. Factory STI 2011. Removed factory fire control parts and replaced them with a Cylinder/Slide set. Hammer/trigger passes all safety function tests. Factory single side thumb safety required very minor fitting, but is now fully functional. Now the original grip safety will not let the "spur" of the thumb safety into it's corresponding hole. The spur will fit through the first hole (in the grip safety) and partially into the frame, but not out the other side of the frame. By "spur" I mean the bar part of the thumb safety that fits into the holes on the frame and thumb safety. When the grip safety is off the gun (and out of the equation) the thumb safety fits into the holes just fine. I tried a different grip safety and still have the same issue. Discuss.
  13. What's funny to me is that rounds that fail the plunk test always work fine in practice.
  14. I would like to correspond with someone involved in car sales; my questions specifically pertain to Mercedes-Benz, but I'd love to chat with anybody involved in the sales side of the industry.
  15. "It's always something" is by far the most common. By far.
  16. I love the story/plot line. Alternative history is cool. it's gotten a little surreal/existential to me. Will keep watching but working through The Vikings now.
  17. Shot there a lot back in the day; several grrrrrrrrrreat matches within driving distance. Don't forget Custer; longer drive but also good matches.
  18. The law of unintended consequences at work here.....picture the first time he gets pulled over for a traffic violation........
  19. I had similar problems with multiple 2011 guns and in trying to solve it I went through multiple gunsmiths. Problems all went away....completely away....when I went to a Caspian. It turned out that my grip was tight enough that it impacted the internal dimensions...or at least that's what the group consensus was. At any rate, a steel framed gun solved the problem.
  20. Alternatively they could focus on their own compliance with the safety rules....and not getting DQ'd.
  21. The important part will be accurately relaying the facts to Troy. Garbage in....................garbage out.
  22. Maybe keep an eye on the trigger spring; proactively changing that, particularly in a duty gun, won't hurt.
  23. The visceral, profanity filled rage I heard from some shooters (not the poster) was more consistent with people who were in the "Why didn't I think of that?" camp. @Mike it was your first scenario described in your post.
