I've tried the dummy gun thing; better than nothing but not much. Wrong weight, crappy sights, no trigger, etc etc etc.
Ok for draws, table pickups, and strong/weakhand transitions. That's about it.
Best thing to do is shoot it like any other stage in a match. Get your hits and be technically proficient.
This from a guy who made GM in about 30 months and then spent the next 8 years being "last GM" at pretty much every major I went to.
Ultimately requested to be moved down to M in all divisions.
Depends how much you shoot; $14 per thousand can either be savings of
$14 per year
$140 per year at 10k per year
$280 per year at 20k
$420 at 30k
I do a lot of "oportunity cost" in this stuff, and $280 per year is two major match fees, or 10k primers, etc etc
Nice catch Hoghunter!
There is no case law on this. This stuff just gets repeated....and repeated...and repeated...................
Tenn v. Garner and Graham v. Conner are still the guiding element is UODF cases.
Dave I've been involved in ranges/firearms training for the .gov for a long time now; the area behind the berms is referred to as the "impact area" and typically .gov ranges have hundreds or thousands of feet of "impact area" restricted from any type of use.
The "impact area" you are describing is woefully inadequate; 420 yds is well within the max distance for pretty much any pistol caliber.
"Low probability, high impact" of occurence, but too high a risk.......both for your range and anybody out on that highway.
I've used them extensively in practice and have found that "something" isn't quite right; I think poster ummm nailed it with regards to bullet hole/target size ratio.
It also seems that a 10 yd target (although a reduced size) does not amplify marksmanship issues like a true 25 yd target.
Maybe do a trial period; Level 1 matches only for 12 months and see.

We'll need to know your hit factor.
There is at least one website that will allow you to see what your score works out to.
I believe www.classifiercalc.com is the one that's still up and running.
