  1. I've shot a G19 Open gun and it was pretty sweet! Short, light and fast, albeit pretty nasty in the hand 8gr of HS6 under a 124 got me 171PF out of a Tanfoglio Open gun with a 4.1" barrel That was pretty nasty too! I don't know how durable the lock up on a Glock barrel is, but I rounded off the locking lug in short order shooting 9 major out of a one-lug compact slide, I've since collected some two-lug slide which seem to hold up fine.
  2. If you insist on shooting minor try a 95/100gr bullet over 8gr of 3n38!
  3. Loading 9 major is not as scary as people who don't do it make it out to be, load up and rock on! Like others have said, you gain nothing shooting minor.
  4. All good points. I made the leap in response to Hiro's suggestion to take a class from a famous GM.
  5. Know thyself What are your goals? Are they realistic? I am a solid B class shooter, I'm content with that because I own a business, have four kids under 7, and am not willing to make the sacrifices necessary to shoot at a higher level. I shoot once a month and can be very pleased with my performances because I have realistic expectations. What are your weaknesses? Pactiscore gives us so much valuable data you don't have to pay a GM to tell you what to work on. Look at division results, what's the classification of the winner? If the winner's classification is not 100% you can adjust their scores to compare them to yours as if they were. What is your percentages of your scores in points and time? At least then you can know if it's your speed or accuracy you need to work on. Malfunctions and penalties are the no brainers: don't have as many and you'll score better.
  6. I have the Limited and the TS so I can tell you each has it's advantages and it's drawbacks. TS Strengths: -sub 2# trigger out of the box -with CZC springs/followers/base pads mags hold 21 reloadable with no fuss -solid, heavy tight gun -fixed rear sight makes a great place to rack the slide TS Weaknesses: -cheesy waffle iron checkering on frame -cycles best with SAAMI length rounds with jacketed/plated bullets (most lead bullets must be loaded really short and take some work to make reliable) -cheesy plastic mag well EAA Limited Strengths: -aggressive checkering on front and rear strap -adjustable rear sight (if you like them) -dead sexy looks -drilled and tapped for thumb rest/optics -eats a variety of loads/bullets/lengths (can even use 10mm mags and load longer than 1.2") EAA Limited Weaknesses: -4#+ trigger out of the box -20 rounds with Henning pads/springs/followers (21 if tuned) -slightly less cheesy aluminum factory mag well (Henning's is much better) I go back and forth on which I like better
  7. I have, it's not that big a deal no worse than a small .357 revolver
  8. If you're loading 40 major with heavy bullets over a fast powder chances are reall saw@y good your rounds at producing more pressure than my 9 major ? I think people who don't reload 9 major spread unwarranted fear about it's safety. If you take the time to learn the principles at work it's no more dangerous than any other load.
  9. Would you leave an envelope with $2,000 lying around your house somewhere? Lock it up!
  10. Here are the results from my last match: https://practiscore.com/results/new/28374?q_result=0&q_individual=0 JoJo, the match winner has a classification of 95%, my match score was 72% of his score, if I multiply those two numbers I get the score I could expect against a 100% GM: 68%. My current Open classification is 65% so my performance was slightly above what I should expect if I shoot to my ability. It's a way to adjust your score to account for the level of competition you faced at the match. Here's another example from an easier match: http://oceansidepistol.com/scores/show_scores.php?match=ipsc/2016-04-28.txt Leo, the Open winner, has a classification of 78% and my score was 95% of his so according to my method my match performance was a 74%. According to my memory of both matches, I would say this is an accurate assessment of how well I shot.
  11. What type of sight is it? Does it have a set screw? Adjustable sights have two set screws under the elevation adjustment screw.
  12. I had a Witness Open gun done at H&M, it turned out great!
  13. 1 1/2" plywood should be good, I bought a cheap butcher block table off Craigslist and cut it up for my shelf which worked great, I also skipped the strong mount and experimented with different heights, finally settling with the primer push roughly even with my shoulder height. I love my Inline Fabrication roller handle, as well as my Mr Bullet Feeder. I mounted my press inside a locking cabinet to keep it secure from my kids:
  14. It's sounds like you hit it right on the razor's edge Evan, nice work!
  15. That charge weight and PF was my guess for his STI, but I have many guns, some slower, some faster. Last weekend I shot my Czechmate which has a 5.1" barrel with a four port steel comp and no holes in the barrel. I also have a 2011 with a 5.4" Schumann barrel, the Binary Engineering comp and two 3/16" holes. I've done some slow motion video of my different setups:
  16. It's really strange, I used Czechmate big sticks in my custom TS Open gun for over a year without a single issue, now I have the same issues as you using them in my Czechmate. Last match I filled them, peeled off the first round and they ran fine, but you're saying yours nosedive mid mag?
  17. You can absolutely load 9 major with 3N38 under a 124 MG JHP at 1.150" Should be somewhere between 7.8-8.3gr to make ~170pf.
  18. If you're spending VV money, skip the N350 and order 3N38, it's arguably the best powder available for 9 Major. I've loaded Major rounds as short as 1.1". Is there a reason you're loading 124s instead of 115s?
  19. Here's how I look at my match performance: what's my percentage of the match winner, then multiply that by the classification of the winner, if the result is higher than my classification, I've had a good match.
