  1. Just frame and slide, they charge hourly for polishing so a bunch of little parts would cost a fortune
  2. I would imagine that load makes major, or close to it.
  3. I don't have any experience with coated bullets, maybe someone can help. You didn't buy a great quantity of that combo did you?
  4. This is the first thing I thought of when I read the subject:
  5. It depends on the bullet type, plated RN can load as long as 1.170" in a factory CZ barrel, but JHP might be as short as 1.115", you'll have to plunk test it to find out. Let me know if you want to ream the barrel to load longer.
  6. It's just regular 40 brass with the bullet not seated as deep. 1911s are "large frame" guns meaning they're designed for 45/10/38, not 9/40 like "small frame" guns (CZ75, etc.) so in the early days long loaded 9 and 40 feed more reliably than factory length rounds. Now there are a selection of magazines which feed factory length rounds just fine (SVI, MBX, STI with spacer)
  7. The powder has more to do with the effect of the comp than the PF.
  8. I did the same analysis four years ago and quickly realized it was not a good gauge of progress. The implication is all non alphas are equally irrelevant, but they're not. Mike's and no shoots are killers, you need to stop shooting them if you want to score well. Like Jake says, "slow down and get more As" indicates a counterproductive mentality, you don't get more As by slowing down, you get more As by aiming at the A zone and shooting it. Don't focus on shooting fast, focus on doing everything else fast: movement, reloads and draws, that's where most of your time is wasted. Developing a good stage plan and executing it well is the best was to score well.
  9. This one is my favorite: https://shop.cz-usa.com/ProductDetail/40108_Concealed-Hammer-Sa-Only
  10. I'd love to hear you elaborate on this one
  11. Welcome to the forums John, this forum probably contains the the largest concentration of 9 major load data on the internet, all just a search away I suggest you start here: If you still want to ask for help, we're going to need some specifics if the BEnos hive mind is going to offer any intelligent guidance: about the gun -make? type of comp? barrel length? holes in the barrel? how big? how many? -do you already have components? which type of powder? bullets?
  12. A friend in Pakistan had these done:
  13. I'm pretty sure Jimmy from the 1911 speed shop did these:
  14. Rich at Canyon Creek did these cuts:
  15. I recommend you take equal amounts of weight from the front and rear of the slide, ~1 ounce from each, check out this thread:
  16. I suggest the lightest bullet (95 or 100 grain) you can gets your hands on with a powder between HS6 and Lil' Gun (Lil' Gun is the slowest powder I'm aware of which can cycle an Open gun, 9.8 gr under a 115 only made 111PF in my Open gun, too slow to cycle in my opinion). The best shooting Open minor load Ive ever shot was 10gr of SP2 (similar to 3N38) under a 100gr bullet, soft, flat and fast! Made 1640 FPS
  17. It's a Witness Open gun from the mid '90s, I think they may have called it a "Silver Team". I have a few just like it from '93 although mine have an older 3 hole scope mount pattern; it looks like yours has the current four hole pattern, leading me to believe it's newer. Modern large frame mag wells/grips will fit it as well as a new top end in 9mm or 38 super if you can find one; Eric Grauffel is probably your best resource for parts in Europe. Great find!
  18. Excellent work, thanks for the info, here's the link: https://shop.cz-usa.com/ProductDetail/0420005304_Magazine-Catch-85-Combat
  19. I picked up this ugly duckling off Gunbroker a few years back and could not stand the stumpy beaver tail digging into my hand when I shot it. I originally planned to simply build up a little weld on the back and re shape it, but ended up welding a piece of steel to it; once I shaped it it turned out so nice I couldn't bear to chop any off, so I kept it all! It's pretty tough steel, plus I'm not in the habit of dropping my guns, but thanks for the tip
