  1. I don't suspect there's any advantage to a plated HP, except maybe marketing since JHPs are usually more accurate than FMJs.
  2. I like HS6 under a 115, I think you will too
  3. SP2 is the best powder out there for 9 major, but for some reason they're not importing it, of what's available at Graf's, BA 7 1/2 is probably the best option, but I doubt it's going to be any better than Autocomp or HS6.
  4. "Earth-shattering", "disaster" Michael, your use of hyperbole in describing 9 major would be laughable if it weren't so tragically common. Handloading any caliber should be approached with humility and scientific curiosity, not hyterics and hearsay. To the OP: loading longer makes things easier; I can ream your barrels for you to load as long as you like, just send me a PM
  5. This one looks like a pretty good start
  6. I have some, I'll send you one; just PM your address
  7. I don't know why people are so worried about compressing powder. I load 9.4gr of SP2 under a 115gr and it fills the case pretty close to the brim, what's the big deal?
  8. I hate to derail your predictions with my experience, but I have made major loads at 1.100" and 1.077" using SP2 (similar to 3N38) and HS6
  9. I don't think this is true. While loading longer allows you to drop more powder before the tipping point after which velocity starts to drop off, I don't think it's possible to blow up your gun with a suitably slow powder under a 124 or lighter bullet. I haven't collected any data, but I presume most "Kabooms" are the result of fast powder double charged under a heavily bullet (throw in an unsupported chamber for good measure)
  10. I ream by hand, just a few twists will do it.
  11. I have 170mm pads for the standard mags for sale here
  12. I've never seen accuracy degradation after reaming the throat, even when I did it with a drill bit
  13. Welcome to the Dark Side where tinkering is a part of the fun! Obviously check the fit and function first, but then give yourself a fighting chance and switch to Montana Gold bullets. When I switched from Xtreme, the difference was staggering.
  14. John, slow burning powders make more gas and shoot flatter in compensated pistols, I assume your Stock II doesn't have a comp, right? Neil, 3N38 under a 90gr is awesome! I've loaded as much as 10gr If you're already loading 9.2 under a 115, I wouldn't waste time loading as low as 6.8, it likely won't cycle until you get close to 8. 3N38 is an exceptionally safe power for Open guns, VV has two loads in their book which make major.
  15. I don't have experience with Paras, but many CZ shooters find 147s to me lacking in accuracy; Xtremes are also not the most accurate bullets. In 9 minor my most accurate loads use 124gr Montana Gold JHPs
  16. +1 if anything CFE is a touch harsher in my opinion.
  17. Have you checked that in a gauge? The 17 round tubes are slightly longer than the 16s.
  18. I just depends on which is your primary sport, I shoot 9 major in USPSA and don't want to change anything to shoot the occasional steel match. That being said, 3gr of a fast powder under a 115 w/o a comp is pretty sweet for steel (not sure if it's any faster though).
  19. Yes, I got an extra round and it fed sweet in one gun, but would worn in them all so I stopped doing it. A case pro would be the way to go.
  20. I've inflicted two fleshwounds on my chrono: the first day I got it I put a pellet through the front panel, then recently I grazed the diffuser with a bullet and cut it in two, luckily my friend had just killed his so he had two diffusers to spare
  21. Yours runs as you should expect it to, that's good to hear. Reduced power springs are not reliably upgrades, they reduce trigger pull at the expense of reliability. Guys who are pushing the edge (clipping coils, tweaking springs, etc.) might get lower trigger pull numbers, but are more likely to experience issues with a few rounds down to pipe.
  22. You already heard it above, but focus on picking up speed with the non-shooting aspects of your run. Your comment about your DA trigger pull being weak so you go to the popper first makes no sense to me, the open paper target is bigger and closer (ergo easier); are you depending on the feedback of the popper to let you know you made the shot? If so you need to read up on shot calling. One easy area for improvement is your reloads, at least once in the video I saw your muzzle, don't move around so much, just keep the gun up on target, drop the mag, tilt the grip to the left and insert the new mag.
