  1. Me too! I've never paid for a piece of 9mm brass and my collection is constantly growing; when I shot 38 I bought every piece and it dwindled every time I shot. I'm a member of an indoor range where reloaders are few and far between so I scoop up some fresh brass when I show up, then shoot and leave mine behind.
  2. I had a friend with similar guns, 9 for practice and 38 for matches; after a year he didn't see a reason to keep the 38.
  3. I would not own two Open guns in different calibers, 38 or 9, pick one and roll with it. It sounds like you're ready to jump ship on 38, but fear of loading 9 major is holding you back; am I on the right track?
  4. 10mm is not a very common choice in the action shooting sports because of the brass expense, do you reload? Do you already own a 45 and a 10 or are you shopping?
  5. Just pull 'em, a few hundred rounds doesn't take that long, I find it easier to chip away at them 50 at a time each reloading session. Depending on your crimp if you shorten the rounds you can degrade the accuracy of the bullet, so it's not even worth the effort.
  6. There are a lot of factors which effect accuracy which is why you really need to taylor a load to your own gun if you're looking for really tight groups. Rifling twist rate, bore size, barrel length, powder burn rate, bullet hardness/diameter all effect accuracy although a quality jacketed bullet is usually a good place to start. Soft shooting, accurate, and cheap; it's hard to achieve two, all three is nearly impossible.
  7. Gman, are both guns hammer fired? Single action? I've shot 9 Major with Fed SPP, they flatten out more than Win or CCI, so I assume they would pierce easier too. I have a lot of Fed SPP, so I've also toyed with the idea of loading Production and Open loads with them, but I load mixed brass on a 650 so Feds are not as forgiving on primer pocket variation, so I trade the Federals to Production shooters and use CCI for Open. I had one late night session when I couldn't seem to stop crushing Feds, even blew a few up, it wasn't fun
  8. It sounds like you're using factory ammo as a crutch to avoid addressing issues in your reloading technique. There's no reason your loads can't be as accurate and reliable as factory. I chamber check every round before a match, but there's nothing special to "match ammo" and I don't think there should be if you want consistent results.
  9. First off, what's your goal? Make USPSA minor with a soft-shooting load? Are you going to reload or buy factory? If you're reloading, why would you worry about factory loads? I suggest you get a load you like dialed in, then change your sights so you're right on. I can't remember the last time I bought loaded ammo.
  10. Hear, hear! Low prices and availability, pick one because you can't have both Mark, you forgot the asterisk at the end though. *must be 18, void where prohibited, some restrictions may apply, not available in all states
  11. The Czechmate barrel is the same length as a TS barrel, to get a Czechmate comp on a TS you need to cut ~14mm off the slide, ~22mm off the frame and thread the barrel M14X1.
  12. I've never staked or secured pins in any way, never been an issue.
  13. Yes, polished stainless does, matte stainless doesn't.
  14. I saw that too, but I'm pretty sure that's not all inclusive.
  15. Everything you ever wanted to know about 40 Open:
  16. Welcome to the forum! You have the perfect powder for 9 Major, you have nothing to fear, load 'em up! If you look under 9x21, VV also has a book load which makes major with a 115: 115gr JHP at 1.161" over 9.4gr is listed at 171PF. You probably can't load that long in your G34 without reaming the throat, but the good new is if you load shorter it won't take as much powder, that combined with the long barrel on your gun I wouldn't be surprised if you made Major with less than nine grains. In my opinion 3N38 under a 115 is as good as it gets for 9 major, but if you insist on using a 124, it will take about a grain less. I can tell you from experience it's impossible to blow up a 9mm with 3N38 under a 115, I've loaded 10gr ? although once you get over 9.6-9.7, velocity starts to drop.
  17. I can't delete it either, droid using chrome browser.
  18. I have a ported .22 short Olympic rapid fire pistol with 0.7oz trigger pull, should I be free to compete on an equal footing with a 40 major pistol in a practical pistol match?
  19. Equal opportunity does not necessarily correlate with equal results.
  20. I have too many guns to keep track of round counts, but I've never replaced an extractor or spring.
  21. New extractor/spring should fix it.
  22. WAC is 9% cheaper and takes 15% less powder, so I guess from a purely economic standpoint WAC is a better deal. In that same vain the extra powder required is much cheaper than the difference in cost between 124s and 115s
  23. HS6 takes about a grain more for the same PF, and burns a little dirtier, but shoots softer and flatter. Why 124s instead of 115s???
