  1. Maybe what I posted earlier could be clarified a bit more. I think we can all agree that HQ isn't going to change many of the new rules rolled out last year no matter how much it's paying members speak out against some of the changes. They also don't seem to be in any rush to try to bring those that have left back into the fold. That tells me that life for IDPA will go on. If it wasn't, they would have seen the dramatic drop in members that some of us seem to believe has happened and made changes to lessen the blow. I think that my personal lack of experience (member since 2013) with the sport has enabled me to just shrug my shoulders at the changes. It's just a game to me. I don't have to understand the changes made, I just play by the rules and am still able to enjoy myself. I'm pretty sure that at some point each SO was new. So instead of posting about the past, let's build the newest members up to be as capable as those they have ha to replace.
  2. Why has no one mentioned the increase in NEW SOs? The decrease in veteran SOs doesn't have to translate in a reduction in membership, some just decide that they'd rather show up to shoot rather than score and run a timer. We need to worry less about those that have left the sport and focus on those that have joined.
  3. .01-.02 setback isn't anything to be writing home about. You can get that kind of variation just from standard reloading. I've been loading 147gr from Bayou for a while now and found 1.145 to be a good OAL to use across all of my 9mms, 1911, 2011 and Tupperware. Increasing the taper crimp also isn't going to do anything accept increase the size of your groupings. The taper crimp die is only there to remove any flare/bell from the case mouth. It's the case's neck tension that does the job of holding the bullet in place. Over crimping can actually work against that. Double check your crimp and see that it is between .376- .378. That seems to give a consistent crimp among the varity of brass we come across.
  4. Unless the gun was used by a shooter of some significance, I don't know that it being a low serial # is of much importance for resale value. That's not to say some collector may find that to be of interest, but the gun has also been completely rebuilt. For a complete new top end you'll be in the ballpark of about $800-$1000. Depends on parts, smith and refinishing costs and whether or not it needs to be mailed for the work. Overnight shipping is a killer. FYI, this gun could still be used for competition without bein handicapped. It fits nicely into USPSA L10 or IDPA CDP or ESP. Just some food for thought.
  5. Dawson also offers the Toolless guide rod for 1911s.
  6. I'll add that unless you intend to shoot a sanctioned match, you don't need to classify.
  7. You would think one or more people would notice a peice of brass and powder slung out of the gun if the bullet was stripped out of the brass from racking the slide. It's a mystery but I would sure like to find out what caused this..... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk I've seen this happen numerous times. During the haste of stripping a malfunctioning round, you don't notice the powder spill out, just a peice of brass flung out and lost among the brass already at your feet. OP, this sounds like a minor issue that you'll have resolved before your next match. Best of luck.
  8. So you received/purchased this exact gun from a family member? This sounds like a reloading issue. Maybe the person you bought the gun from could provide some insight. The bullet lodged in the barrel sounds like the bullet engaged the landings (ammo loaded too long) and when you went to clear the malfunction, stripped the bullet from the brass.
  9. I wonder if ceracoating both the mag and grip would alieveiate that to some degree? I'm already going to have to coat my mags due to the acidic levels in my skin oils.
  10. Hasn't this thread run its course?
  11. I believe CK Arms makes theirs out of SS.
  12. ^^ That's damn sexy! What texture is that? SD, you seem to be an authority on PT products, does the grip readily accept the SV trigger bow?
  13. Is the STI grip the exact profile as the polymer? That may be a deciding factor. I wasn't a hug fan of the original grip so I had mine sent out to Jim at APS and he worked his magic. While the PT grip is more expensive, I wonder if the shape and texture makes up for it. I realize that the 7076 is also stronger, but that's not a selling point for my needs.
  14. I tried the bayou 150s, but went back to the 147s. Had to load down to about an OAL of 1.115 to feed reliably. Had to use a Lee FCD to mash that case back into shape. Accuracy wasn't any better or worse than the 147 but they made pretty holes. It may have just been my perception, but the 150s made my slide feel sluggish. It may have only been 3gr heavier, but the reduced charge I think is what made the most notable difference.
  15. Looking to replace my polymer grip with an aluminum one. Right now my choices are STI and PT. I've read about the STI having breakage issues but I'll be running 9mm (minor) so I'm not concerned about durability. Looking for some feedback on the pros and cons on these two choices. Thanks.
  16. Being able to get his tuned mags package for $400 is what makes the deal a no brainer.
  17. If your shooting lead 147gr and you have Clays available, 2.8-3.0gr will put you safely up and beyond 130pf. Dunno about plated or jacketed.
  18. You seem to have a QC system down. Stuff happens. I'd be more concerned about the time it took to clear the malfunction.
  19. And that was with a glock at 25yds? That's pretty friggin nice. Looks like a winning combo.
  20. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Shoot the snot out if it and if something gives, replace or upgrade it.
  21. I don't know how the 140mm mags are, but the mag base pads on the 126mm are junk. They flex too much causing mag eruptions. I replaced mine with some from Dawson's. And not a failure point, but I prefer SVIs flat triggers.
  22. v1911

    Which vest?

I just replace my 5.11 vest with one made by Becky from Armadillo Concealment. I like the no flap option on the pockets to help stow mags or stage props in a hurry. Got the mesh back as this will be my summer vest unless I order another for cold weather use. Not the cheapest option out there, but I see it as an investment that will last years. Splurge a bit and get something custom fitted.
  23. You lucked out! I ran some ClayDot loads over a chrony last month and found them to be identical to Clays. So congrats on your score.
