  1. If it's a factory gun, give STI a call.
  2. Every slide and frame are hand fitted as are the barrels.
  3. According to my data I was able to safely make minor PF with just 3.0gr. 3.2gr got me 136pf. I suppose it varies gun to gun. Even more evidence to support the importance of using a chrony when developing loads towards the top end of the spectrum.
  4. It cost me $100 each way to have my 2011 overnighted. $60 to have a handgun shipped is a bargain.
  5. Gun: Gans Guns 2011 Bullet: 147gr Bayou Bullet Brass: Mixed Primer: Tula SPP Powder: 3.2gr OAL: 1.145 Ave FPS: 927 PF: 136 Powder: 3.0gr Ave FPS: 879 PF: 129 I also ran 1.115 OAL and saw no difference in results.
  6. I run 2.8gr of clays under Bayou 147gr at 1.145 OAL. I get 130pf out of my 5" 2011. While I'm no bullseye shooter, my gun and that load is more accurate than I and more than accurate enough for IDPA.
  7. Sometime the combination of bullet, powder and gun aren't the right one. That's not to say that with a different powder or another gun, this combination wouldn't work. Have you tried these loads in another 9mm? Even a friends?
  8. STI will take care of you, but they'll need you gun. Sorry about your luck.
  9. I'll tell you what those marks are. If you use a kinetic bullet puller, the bullet will bounce off the bottom and back up into the case mouth. That's where you're getting the 2 marks on the bullet base. I've reloaded a number of bullets that I've pulled and had that happen to. That isn't the cause of your tumbling. The case neck will smooth out an imperfections along the side of that bevel when you seat the bullet.
  10. I wonder if it's their application process that's causing the residue. I've never had any sort of green residue left on my fingers handling Bayou Bullets and they use the same coating.

    Bayou Bullets

I didn't know he had any back order. Each order I've placed I've recieved it in less than 7 days including weekends.
  12. The Total Eclipse is STI's most compact 2011. If you don't have very large hands to begin with, this may be the ticket. I would categorize this as a compact. The next size up would be the VIP. Longer slide and longer grip. This would be the equivalent of a CCO in a 2011 frame. Either way, they don't offer a .38 super so you'll have to get the 9mm and have a smith install a new barrel.
  13. I've used an XDs in a number of matches at my local club and even competed in a sanctioned BUG with it. As others have stated. Have your local club MDs look up the BUG rules and have a night dedicated to it. BUG matches are a little different but just as fun. It puts everyone on a level playing field and allows you some trigger time with your carry gun. Stage designs are of course tailored to the reduced capacity but still challenging. BUG in IDPA is still in its infancy. There are still going to be some growing pains involved but I see the evolving product as an enjoyable one. It will still take some time to flesh out the details but it's something that is in the works with help from commited clubs willing to test the waters and gather the data needed for headquarters to shape the future of the BUG division.
  14. The EMP is a scaled down version of a 1911 built around the 9mm cartridge. Very few 1911 parts are even compatible with the EMP. Even the simplest things like grips have to be specific for the EMP.
  15. Funny that those that preach so much about JBs original design but most have a 1911 with updated features. If someone wants to own a GI style pistol, cool by me. Not my cup of tea but I'd never bash someone for their choices.
  16. I've shot te EMP and agree its a great gun and would recommend it for someone looking for a compact 9mm in a 1911 style gun, but it's not a CCO nor is it a 1911. Otherwise, nice handling gun.
  17. I've never handled a bobtail so I can't comment on those.
  18. Helps tremendously with reloads. Doesn't really add any additional length when you account the additional length the base pads already add. Also, from time to time I actually use my Guardian in IDPA matches. So the magwell comes in hand. Let me tell you, 1911s are not as forgiving on reloads as 2011s are. =)
  19. I realized that after buying a stock eagle and then adding the little things to make it mine( 2# trigger, flush cut crown, French border, flat topped and ribbed, wide frame, long flat SV trigger), that it would cost me as much as a custom. So I had Gary at Gans Guns build mine in his usual record speed. By the time Gary was done, the only resemblance to an Eagle it had was the SDC and 5" slide.
  20. With a good belt an holster, I don't even feel the all steel Guardian. And the difference in price could be a new holster, magwell and extra mags.
  21. May or may not be in budget: STI Guardian DW ECO The STI would be closer to your budget but the DW is very nice. The Guardian is all steel. Not sure if you preferred aluminum framed or not. I own the STI but have shot both. Both equal as far as accuracy, but I give the DW a nod for finish.
  22. Not true. I run a GI w/ my Bull Barrel. What?! You just blew my mind. Now you have to post a pic of this because I'm scratching my head as to how this all comes together. And I'm with Steve on the ease of takedown. But I also like the Dawson toolless guiderod. But I find a well blended bushing and plug to be more aesthetically pleasing.
  23. Never seen a HC'd Duty One before. Damn that looks good!
  24. I you run a bull barrel you don't have much choice.
