  1. If you're loading range plinkers, sure. But if you have to make a PF, it's common knowledge that a heavier bullet with a faster powder will provide a softer recoil pulse.
  2. If you have money to burn and can wait a year and a half, heck yeah, get an SVI. SVI does use a designated slide though and it does have a different look. I actually prefer the look of the Cheely version better. But that's just personal preference.
  3. I think in today's shooting economics, it could be argued that allowing .40 in CDP would cause a huge shift from .45 shooters. The irony is, the swing would probably come from USPSA shooters looking to get more trigger time.
  4. Not 158gr but I have with the 150gr LSWC. Just as you described your bullet needs, this too was designed for the .38spl/super. I was able to get it to 125pf using clays and loading to 1.110 OAL. Not enough of a difference from the 147gr FN performance wise, so I went back. With as deep as it has to be loaded, there was some deformation of the bullet nose forcing it passed all of that case neck. Definitely no risk of bullet setback.
  5. Maybe the difference in reliability in feeding 147gr between 1911s and 2011s are the mags. I have zero issues with 147gr. I have run them as short as 1.115 out to 1.150 with no issues in my 2011. As a side note, I'm running bone stock 126mm mags.
  6. If it's the dustcover we're referencing, the eagle is not the same as the edge. If what you have is a wide short dustcover, then you must look for holsters that support the Edge. The difference in width is enough to prevent holstering your wide frame eagle in anything else. Been there, done that.
  7. On my phone so I can't link anything. Take a look at CCGunworks in the vendor tent subforum. Look for the 2011 Custom Carry thread.
  8. Smaller than the VIP is the total eclipse. If the VIP is a CCO style, the Toal Eclipse is a compact.
  9. Do you still have the factory mag to test against?
  10. I don't foresee it being an issue. I mainly shoot indoors and even when transitioned they aren't that dark.
  11. If it were defense scenarios with a carry gun it would require little to no shooting and everything would be at 10ft. Yeah, sign me up for that ball of fun.....
  12. No. If looking at kydex, you'll have to look for anything that will fit an Edge.
  13. Brief Update: So after spending some time debating on what style of Rudy's to get I finally settled on a pair. I opted not to get an Rx style as I didn't want to worry about the cost of replacing lenses as my Rx changed. I did take a risk on ordering a pair I didn't get to try on. After receiving my pair via Overnight delivery I can say... DAAAAMN these are comfortable!! Arguably the most comfortable pair of anything I've placed on my face. These KarbonEye are very lightweight and provide a superb field of unobstructed vision. They are Impactx photochromatic lenses. They seem to hug my head/face incredibly well during high impact activity and impart zero discomfort on any point of contact (something that could not be said of my current daily wear glasses). I'm sure that each and every line of their glasses is just as impressive. While not the cheapest option for protective eyewear, they definitely get the thumbs up as far as value for what you're getting. I'll be talking these up to my fellow shooters! Edit: Thanks Jaxshooter for the most up to date discount code!
  14. So I can see why the decision to make CDP .45 only was to protect its validity. From some of the responses as to why we want to run .40, it would do to .45 in IDPA CDP what 9mm did to the 38 super in USPSA Open. Is that a fair assumption?
  15. I was experiencing the same issues that you described. About 10 out of 100 rounds would not pass my case gauge but passed a barrel plunk test. This was my journey to a solution. Not something I'm proud of, but an informative none the less. http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=442865
  16. I don't see where .40 would have any advantage over .45. There would still be a capacity limit. And it's going to be a softer recoil making 165pf with .45 vs .40. There's only 2 shooters with .40s at my club. Both shoot SSP.
  17. The buldge you're seeing is extra lead that you may not have had if you loaded 124gr. The further you press down the more buldge become visible. The 9mm case thickens as you go to the bottom so you can see why you're 147gr would show more of an hourglass shape than a lighter bullet. Unless it's causing plunk test failures (and at that OAL it shouldn't) I wouldn't sweat it. If it is, then check to make sure your seating plug is on the RN side. Using the FN side will cause issues with shaving lead and unbalanced rounds. If it bothers you aesthetically or is causing feed issues, look into investing in a Lee Factory Crimp die.
  18. For that cost you could have a full custom built to your exact specifications and in a much shorter time. The only thing it would lack is SA's renown CS but I doubt you'll have any issue with a build from a reputable pistolsmith.
  19. If the emblem in the grips is a big hunk of brass, it may be considered a weighted grip and therefore illegal. Otherwise I see nothing wrong with your ESP pistol.
  20. Only have a few hundred reloaded using Ram Comp', but it's definitely messier than Clays/ClayDot. The smaller flake seems to float down after the second stage is done on my 550, leaving traces of powder everywhere after just a short while. I have a variety of loads worked up using both ClayDot and Ram Comp'. If I find that ClayDot is in fact just as good as Clays, I'll have a new favorite. While I won't be able to chrony until next month, I'll be testing for accuracy and perceived recoil next week.
  21. I handled an SV for the 1st time a few days ago. This compact was an heirloom piece and I would have given most of my wife's vital organs to own one. The lockup was so silky smooth and tight. While I have no intentions of ever spending as much as this gentleman did, I do hope to one day order one of my own.
  22. If you were looking for a multi purpose gun I'd recommend .40 so that you make major. In IDPA, .40 minor is crazy soft.
  23. You could use small primer .45 as others suggested, but finding it in large supply may be another issue all in its own.
  24. Awesome. Hopefully we'll get to see the end result here or in the vendor sub forum.
  25. +1 on the lighter spring. Get yourself a spring tuning kit and see what works best for your load.
