  1. I am fairly certain that the front dovetail will take a Sig brand front sight, though I don't have the gun here to check. Have one EERW? I have heard of the Heine Slant Pros being modified to fit in such a way that it looks factory.
  2. Para frames are CAST (I found out the hard way). -Hardchrome will be no problem. -IonBond should stick no problem. -Bluing (dunno) -Parkerizing: I tried to black-manganese parkerize a Para a few years back. I had to park that gun TWICE. Even then, the color was more of a dark grey than jet black. The cast Para frame did not take the parkerizing nearly as well as the steel that STI or SV uses (standard 4140 or some such). You MIGHT have the same problem with blueing a cast para frame. Plus, for our game ( where you might shoot in the rain/snow & WILL have holster wear) I do not think bluing is the best option.
  3. Okay, you're the second guy that I have heard this "buttstock on sternum" thing from. Why (when, what for, what advanatage, etc.) would you put the buttstock on your sternum? How do you see your sights or look through your optics then if you don't have a cheekweld? I had borrowed a DEA/local cop's AR for the longest time and it came with a 600 something dollar Surefire VFG and flashlight combo (at least he said it was 600 dollars and off ebay ) It was neat and added a "tacticool" level to the gun, but other than that, I think at one 3 gun match it did actually get in the way or get snagged on something. Hi Chills - this technique is awkward at first, but it controls recoil. How effectively? Years ago, Bear's team mate & well-known GM Phil Strader was the owner of a gunshop/range. He was also a BATFE licensed class III dealer. He was entitled to have post-86 dealer's sample full auto guns, and his inventory included a full auto/select fire .308 British surplus L1A1 (a variant of the FAL). These guns were a failure in full auto mode because no one could control the gun on full auto. Except - Phil could control it. I watched him fire a continuous 20 round burst into the A zone using this technique. If you try it, it will feel awkward - that is until you get used to it. It also has advantages with 5.56mm guns - particularly during the close range-high speed parts of a stage. There are other advantages. You could learn it (and other top notch go-fast techniques) from the grand masters just by taking one of the courses offered at USSA. Regards, D.
  4. This "debate" looks a lot like: "6 of one/half dozen of another." The difference seems to be preference. An anology? Pistol shooting with finger wrapped around the front of the trigger gaurd. Most in US don't use it. BUT, I thought Angus, Graufel & Kirsch use such a technique? Which one is "better" ?? A. Preference & practice. Revolver reload: there are 2 techniques. Most use Jerry's (I do). But is the other technique "wrong" ? A.: Again, I don't think its been conclusively proven either way. At this point in time, it's practice & preference. Personally, after modifying my X2 like Mike's above (per his gunsmithing tips) I learned to reload from Phil using the weak hand & never taking the strong hand off the grip.
  5. Trust me when I say that comparatively speaking I would rather have the ass waxing that was handed out than the ass waxing you can get This is one post that really does NOT need pictures (the mental ones are bad enough).
  6. If you have been reloading for 20 years, you know that a 130 PF load should not tax the gun nor the brass much. However, the collective experience here on be.com indicates you really will want to use an EGW brand "U" or undersize or "small base" resizing die. Why? Because: 40 is sensitive to OAL. A set-back, particularly on a powder like Clays, could cause issues. The EGW die prevents any chance of setback. Use the case spray that Brian suggests in his Dillon reloading video: Hornady One Shot.
  7. For 9mm 147 data, SLM is correct. Use his data. For all other 9mm weights, and also Major 40 data with Solo 1000, look at the following CHART or cut & paste this link: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?...ost&id=6758 I have it taped to my jug of Solo 1000. I am using in in 45ACP, 40 major and 9 minor. It is my replacement for N320 and N310.
  8. I am not EERW, but I have not found an extended release. There might be one from that Canadian company that also sells the extended barrels. Anyone have the link to those guys up north?
  9. Forgot to add this in my PM: There was an extractor upgrade to the earliest M9 & M40s. That issue is long resolved with the M1 series. The guns sit even lower in the hand than the new M&P. Finish is Teniffer applied in Austria. The 40 was designed 1st, then scaled down for the 9mm. The 9mm will take 9major and I have shot many rounds of it through my M9 to verify. NOTE: stock springs are stout to handle +p and +p+ ammo; if you try to use the lightest/126 PF ammo you can find & then limp wrist it, then the Steyr will behave exactly like a stock Glock or M&P. Dunno if Wolff makes springs yet; my ammo was about 130 to 135 and it did OK w/ stock springs. I carry an unmodified M40 w/ factory night sights. Guess you could say I trust the gun.
  10. Ah- another oldie but goody that just won't die Geez 9x19 - talk about resurecting the dead! Halloween was yesterday. So - you shooting hubby's 85 combat now, or did you buy your own CZ? Regards, d.
  11. I used to use only Winchester - for years & years. Then, switched to Federal as they are more reliable when the trigger is tuned (like on a 625); even used them in 9mm Major. Dumped them both in favor of a supperior product: the PMC/Wolf primers. They are the winner! Don't take my word for it - ask David Tubb. Happy coincidence that these are also the bset priced ones.
  12. Hi Cybosh - I think that Vlad's Champion was mounted with the OKO site & an integral mount that he told me he bought from the "IPSC Store" over on ipsc.com Beyond that, I though there was a Canadian outfit that made a mount - and you mihgt try EGW out of PA here in the US. Regards! C.
  13. Is the little lady interested in some class III hardware for the holidays? Willmaker comes in handy for creating a revocable trust to purchase that perfect holiday silencer, short barreled rifle, machinegun, or destructive device (what girl WOULDN'T want to find a destructive device under the tree?) - all without having that pesky sherrif or other cheif LEO spoil your holiday plans or getting your fingers all dirty with fingerprint ink. How thoughtful of Costco! (and all this time I thought they were anti-gun).

    taurus

Well I beleive its always in our sport's best interest to have more brand competition. I know that Taurus makes/made .45 ACP revolvers; but I thought the problem was their addition of porting to almost every revolver they import. Perhaps they could introduce a model along the lines of the Miculek PC 625? It would be great to see how .45s from each maker would do head to head.
  15. Out of those, only one was single base: N-320. Another single base powder is: Solo 1000. What makes a powder double-base? The addition of nitroglicerin. Single base has NONE. What powder has the highest nitro content? Titegroup, 37%. What powder has a reputation for burning hot? Titegroup. What causes coated and exposed lead base bullets to smoke? Heat. Use single base V V or Solo 1000 with coated bullets.
  16. Regarding the legality of making your own gun at home, I found a letter on BATFE's own site stating its perfectly legal provided your state allow you to own a gun of that type: LINK TO ALCOHOL TOBACCO AND FIREARMS .GOV PAGE or just got to: http://www.atf.gov/firearms/building_a_firearm.pdf
  17. Less force on the hammer, thus, less friction for the sear to overcome as it moves, thus, lighter trigger pull. Also has an effect on the force needed for the slide to move rearward & recock the hammer. Think about it. Regards, C.
  18. Buddy of mine has one of the really long barreled ones - it is very quiet. And accurate. CZ-USA is the American parent company of Dan Wesson. All parts for all CZs are available from CZ USA. You won't need parts though. Nor repairs.
  19. If it is a copy of the Browning Gold/SX-2, then you could adapt a SpeedFeed pistol grip stock for the 1100 to it w/ out much problem (provided its legal - is this a USA made gun?).

    Raid On House

Too bad that he did not have the house set up with video survalance equipment; 60 Minutes, 20/20 or YouTube could have worked wonders with such footage. If the raid-team members did nothing wrong, then they have nothing to fear from such footage. As for the raid, if this was a mistake (we all make mistakes - that's human) he should sue them in civil court for damages. So the police made a mistake; that's fine, everyone makes mistakes, just pay the damages or the settlement & call it a day. Besides, shouldn't a judge should decide who is right here? If the raid-team members did nothing wrong, then they have nothing to fear from such a law-suit.
  21. Hi Merlin & Flex: As far as USPSA, I agree with Flex; even if its an exact copy, wouldn't it be considered a "prototype" and thus fall in Open division? Maybe Amidon will have to ultimatly decide this one. On home-made guns: BATFE has made rulings on making your own guns at home and it is lawful. Might seem amazing, but, did you know you are allowed to brew your own beer at home too? You can't do it if you are under 21, or if you live in a dry county, and by the same token, a minor can't make their own gun, not could residents of D.C. (for now). But, it is allowed and it is commonly done. Still in doubt? Take a look at all the home made, serial-number-free guns posted on www.roderuscustom.tzo.com RODERUS SITE or look at ar15.com site's "build it yourself" section for all the home-machined AR-15 and AK-47 clones built at home. Better yet, take a look at batfe's own FAQ right on their website. If still in doubt, there are letters out there where the question has been answered by batfe over & over and in all cases, its allowed under federal law, provided the gun is in a legal configuration and allowed in your state. Look, I have a steady government job, mortgage, and now a wife. I am not about to take any sort of risk (at all) on an activity the might have even the slightest POSSIBILITY of being against the law or getting me arrested (an arrest record is still an arrest record - I wouldn't risk that, ever). I would not make a gun at home, nor advocate it on a public forum, if I had the slightest doubt it is not permitted. But the fact is, the issue has been gone over countless times since I first heard about it in 2000. Like making beer at home, it is allowed (for now). BTW, I live in Virginia. Regards, D.C. Johnson
  22. Luca beat me to it. N320 is great fro these two calibers, especially with those bullet weights. It meters nicely in Dillons and is very clean. So, basically +1 to Skywalker's post IF cost is not an issue, then N-320 is an excellent option. Here in the US, N320's price os now out of my reach, so there has been a search for "N320's Replacement" The candidates as far as I can tell are (and these should work for your needs): -E3 -Solo 1000 (my personal choice & single base like V V ) -Titegroup And I know there are a few others - can you add to the list of: N-320's replacement?
  23. Buy more guns? Well - ok - if I must. Are you back east yet?
  24. Keeps the "Ramblo and Mall Ninja" wannabees in the friggin closet where they belong for all others if "you is-be" In the earlier days of IPSC/USPSA you would have been amazed at the attiudes and dialog of some> In the beginning it WAS considered "combat handgunning" This is just a carry over from those days. Seem hard to believe? Take a look at this video (which hopefully posted correctly) from a 3gun match in the Czech republic (particularly the guy w/ the 12 gauge pistol grip shotgun, hockey helmet & camo pants; he appears to be the RO): http://www.oktarget.cz/mpegs/2.mpg Or go to: http://www.oktarget.cz/sport_en.html Then, 1/2 way down the page, look at: "Action Shooting 1, 2, and 3" Besides, camo clothing is not banned. But I agree with the current rules discouraging it in our sport.
