  1. Just took the Teutonic Princess to her first USPSA match to watch & she liked it enough to say she might give it a try if I had extra equipment for her to use. So I surprised her with her own "rig" consisting of an old belt, kydex holster, mags, and a Glock 17. She liked it OK, but her first question about the Glock was: "Can we paint it PINK?"
  2. This is how they looked AFTER re-finishing (with black parkerizing). You should have seen them before. The gun on the left was once Strader's main limited .40. Notice the magazine well? Not one hint of the original black anodizing left on the chute. We should all aspire to that level of dry fire.
  3. Nothing wrong with a sig. Trigger can be tuned. Transition from DA to SA is easy to learn. Seems reliable and accurate - that's all you need to go as far as you want in Production. Only downsides I can think of are price, mag price, and the bore axis is a little high - but those won't stop you from winning with a sig if you do your part.
  4. I don't think anyone is kidding, unfortunately. And, your Winchester may be imported. But, if the gun doesn't have a pistol grip (a big hangy-down pistol grip ala AK or AR, not the little curved one that's part of the stock), then I don't think this rule applies. Not sure, though. Amazing how some DC bureaucrats can write a rule (not a law written by Congress) that makes a person a felon for minding his own business! Yes - except all the Russian AK shotguns are US made. Read that again: those are AMERICAN MADE SHOTGUNS. How so? The AK fans & the commercial builders figured this stuff out years ago and they follow the US parts content rules (google Tromix if you want). No one in their right mind would put a pistol grip conversion on an AK shotgun without using a majority of US made parts including US made buttstock & grip (counts as 2 parts) gas piston (US made 1 part) and US made G-2 brand trigger parts (counts as 3 US parts). IE- majority US made parts, so its an American made AK-47 shotgun. I do not make up the rules - the batfe does - I just follow their interpetation. I sure as heck would not have posted about my Saiga 20 AK conversion here on BE.com if I was not damn sure its 100% legal & I have the parts receipts to prove it. I hope you guys with limited Benellis held on to your original non-pistol grip stocks. But again - we don't need spot inspections at matches - Merlin Orr was right. Best thing to do would be to lock this thread & make it go away.
  5. Modification of a foreign made part will NOT turn it into a "US MADE" part. Once foreign, always foreign. I suspect that many of the guns used in our sport & 3gunning in general are unlawful & the owners have, knowingly or otherwise, committed felonies in assembling their guns in their current configuration. However, Merlin Orr hit the nail on the head: lock this thread and make it go away.
  6. Thanks Trevor! Couple of thoughts for OP: normal open guns might work with coated bullets. Might have to clean the barrel. There are a few weird open guns w/ barrels that have more holes than swiss cheese (hybrid holes) and these will likely "spit" coating and possibly lead if you use them with coated bullets (plus I HATE RO'ing guys with hybrid hole guns - but the guns are fun to shoot). Now, if you would only give me your money to spend, then I'll be happy to tell you to buy the excellent, but increasingly expensive Montana Gold 124 CMJ. These won't present ANY problems with any sort of open gun, and since its your money I am spending, I don't mind the price.
  7. I used the Wolf/PMC small pistol in Production at both Fredericksburg and Thurmont/MPSA with GREAT results. These are my only primers from here on out. They come from the exact same plant as the PMC primers did. They are nearly as reliable as the Federals and MORE reliable than Winchesters from what I can tell. (clarification: least reliable are hard military and cci. LOTS of dud primers/light strikes).
  8. The bottom one (my Limited SV) has a short dust cover.
  9. Thought I read that the owner of glockmeister got convicted & sentenced for something gun related & lost all rights to touch guns, ammunition, etc. Lone Wolf are good folks - how about them?
  10. While I was disturbed by the civil rights implications here - I have to confess - seeing an anti-war goofball getting tazed right in front of Kerry made me laugh out loud - if only for the irony alone. Anyone else see the episode of COPS: "Tazed & Confused" ??
  11. I have a tripp & it does not agree w/ my frame. There was a brand they sold through brownels - I think it was "maidenform" or metalform. Caution - buy the 10mm ones and not the .40s The 40s have a spacer & won't let you load very long at all.
  12. Another Schuemann fan here. Mimimizing "blow by" makes sense since barrels "wear out" by throat erosion and that process is accelerated by excessive blow by.
  13. Yes, you left out the 140mm Glock magazine capacity advantage. So you see, its not really about the platform you choose at all. Rather, its really all about one or two extra rounds in the mag - thats what wins matches (joke). My vote is for the Glock - it CAN take you all the way in this sport if you do your part. Besides, don't we have enough S_I shooters already? Where are all the Caspian/Para/Bul/Tanfoglio/CZ/Sig/H&K/Springfield Armory/Beretta/Taurus/S&WM&P owners & gunbuilders when it comes to limited division?
  14. This 1911 photo showed up on our website some time ago; I do not know the whole story, though it might be more common with cast slides over forged or billet: And apparently its not limited to 1911s:
  15. On the bright side, even if you change nothing, that 10 to 15% could be used for practice ammo and I bet most of it will work OK (unless you have different practice & match loadings; ie lead for practice & expensive jackets for match). Let us know what you decide. Regards, C.
  16. I am sorry I if I offended you. My statement was made to a point someone made a couple posts above this one. I was making a point of saying that if he can have any gun almost and certain ones are provided for free, and he bought the CZ it says something in my mind. Exactly. Well said Bob! Be safe in Baltimore & see you at the club match. D.
  17. You are SUPPOSED to be protected under Federal law - but in practice, it might not count. Since 1986, Federal law allows you to travel THROUGH any state or the District with any firearm, without regard to local/state laws, provided that: 1) you keep moving except for gas station stops & possibly the drive-through at McD's and 2) the firearms are unloaded, cased, and locked in the trunk and 3) the firearms are lawful for you to own in the state where you began the journey & your destination state. Simple enough, right? Well, the head of D.C.'s Metro Police is on record in the Washington Post as saying a non-resident of D.C. MUST drive around D.C. with any gun (in effect -he ignores federal law). And apparently, there are issues with transiting through LaGuardia airport in New York that may violate the letter and/or the spirit of the federal laws on this issue. Magazines are supposed to be part of the firearm (they are counted as a "part" of the gun by BATFE for determining import legalities). But since there is already disagreement on peaceable journey, I would not count on the law or local LEO interpretation of it. If you are concerned, try your best to follow the law & possibly dis-assemble the mags too - since they MIGHT not be covered under mag restrictions as merely being "mag parts."
  18. Very sad - especially for your friend since he is a new shooter. Perhaps the UK version of the NRA (which I believe still opperates there) could help correct the situation?
  19. I really hate it when I read anything negative about USPSA or IDPA on the net. Link below is a sad illustration of a first experience gone wrong. Yes- I realize its a one-sided account and that the guy showed up with a shoulder rig for his 1st match. Its just a bummer it turned out as it did, and worse still, its posted on the net for other potential USPSA shooters to read. 20. No reason why not. Look at the "Warp Speed" 1911 hammer here: LINK to C&S 1911 parts www.cylinder-slide.com
  21. Bwaa haahaaaa What?!?! OJ framed for a crime he didn't committ AGAIN?? What ARE the chances? His arrest & booking on charges is a good start to finally seeing him go where he belongs (I am not talking about the golf course either)
  22. I'd stick with the U-die & the hour-glass shape it creates; makes possibility of set-back almost impossible (and set-back results in case head separation - very very unpleasant).
  23. Correct. The CZ hammer is a factory option part. An example of a non-factory aftermarket part would be the aftermarket Beretta "speed bump trigger" - it was never offered by Beretta in the US or Italy and was not permitted in Production after review by Amidon.
  24. What works locally is to organize a "revolver squad" - even if its only 2 or 3 guys - at the monthly club match. Revolver is a lot more fun with some fellowship & someone to compete with.
