  1. Holy cow! That gun did not even exist before 1975 and you rarely saw them on this side of the Iron Curtain before 1989 or so - and yet they've made a million of them? They've been busy. If you include clones, how many have they made following that pattern?
  2. Flex is right. And the "newbie" got it right too. Shooting since 1985? There should be an award for that. Don't you love it when someone sees fit to "correct" you - and they turn out to be in the wrong? Like the times I've been practicing mag changes in the safe area - with unloaded mags - and was "corrected" (thanks). Or my first Nationals when I went into the safe area to unbag & holster, while I had loaded mags in mag holders but never touched them - and was "corrected" (thanks again).
  3. +1 I should have mentioned the above suggestions are not the fix all for high pressure issues. A good analogy is: hearing your car's engine begin to knock, so you "fix" the knock by turning up the volume on the radio. Moreover, the additional priming compound in the rifle primer will likely increase actual pressure of the load.
  4. Well said. In addition, we are also a region within IPSC, worldwide. Some of our fellow regions have national laws that ban civilians from any sort of activity that might be construed as either military or police training, and some countries even go so far as to ban civilian use of military calibers like 9x19mm. If military/police uniforms become the norm in IPSC or USPSA, it will cause problems for some regions, and it could lead to the end of IPSC in those countries. If a prohibition on IPSC seems far-fetched, please consider what is going on in Denmark right now (though granted, our fellow shooters did it to us there).
  5. +1 I've not been to a match with a prize table either. Trophies for winners and plaques for classes are fine by me I have been to matches with price tables (2005 USPSA Prodution & Revolver Nationals). I did not have the time to waste on such an anachronism. So I left. Whoever got "my" stuff that year - enjoy it (turns out I did not need it). I go to USPSA matches to shoot, not to collect stuff or earn money. Skip the prize table completely. Some of us don't have that sort of time to sit around. For that matter, skip the prizes altogether. Let's focus on what matters: THE SHOOTING. Just my 2 cents. Regards, C.
  6. Holy crap - you even managed to make the letters pink! I am favorably impressed! In an effort to hopefully restore your damaged vision, please focus on the following image for 30 seconds:
  7. There is more where that came from. say "uncle!"
  8. Something to keep in mind about a minor 9mm load for 115 grn bullets: whatever powder you choose will probably "work" and will be safe. How can I say that? Because there are folks on this site pushing 115s all the way to major (excess of 1440 FPS) safely, but you only need to meet minor. Ramshot competition would be fine for minor. So would HP-38 or Win 231. Anything from V V will make it. Personally, I would stop at the local trap club and pick up some Solo 1000. But rest assured, whatever powder you pick will work fine. Load up & concentrate on the shooting.
  9. An entirely pink glock just too much for you? Then perhaps a flaming pink detail paint would be more your style (isn't it all about the details after all?):
  10. How about a He-Man Pink shotgun? Or perhaps a tastefully done Glock with pink magazines to match? (its important to color-match when accesorizing, you know).
  11. Isn't David Tubb the same guy who is advocating the Russian Wolf brand primers as THE new, ultra-high precision primers for bench rest use?
  12. Crude oil is not the same as refined gasoline. But as you point out, gasoline prices are based on oil futures. They are also based on seasonal markets, and gasoline prices typically fall at the end of summer & into the fall as "vacation season" ends and before "winter heating season" begins. Logically, there is also a lag-time in the price increase of gasoline as that newly expensive crude oil is refined. The media will go nuts only when the price of gasoline finally goes up in December & all the SUV drivers start crying (though watch how they still cling to their beloved gas-guzzlers & whine about how they "need" such vehicles, even though they are primarily the only passengers day to day). Don't like the prices? Buy a smaller vehicle. Cheap gas ain't a "right".
  13. JD & Gary - what was your impression of the trigger re-set?
  14. Make that .04 cents please - and not due to inflation. I simply agree with you 100%.
  15. My Winchester SX2 HATED Winchester shotgun ammo! (how is that for odd). ALso a no-go were the Fiocci low recoil buckshot loads. OK luck w/ S&B though, and also those German made slugs sold by Wolf (the Germans make good stuff! And I am not just saying that to make the Tuetonic princess happy). BTW Mike - the tip you gave me on the Speed Feed stock is again, very much appreciated. Regards, C.
  16. Current management will still not allow us "simple civilians" to buy a Ruger Mini-14 magazine over 5 rounds - just as it was under Bill Ruger. Here is the link: LINK TO RUGER'S RIFLE MAGAZINE ORDER PAGE The fact that some wholesalers choose to violate their sales agreements with Ruger & let factory 20 rounders slip into civilian hands says nothing about Ruger's corporate policy against civilians owning rifle magazines over 5 or 10 rounds. Heck, even H&K 416 uppers are out there for sale; that does not mean they were ever intended for us civilians, even if they are lawful to own. Apparently Ruger's management & corporate policy has not changed much since Bill Ruger passed away. In contrast, S&W was owned by a Brittish concern when they signed a deal with our former president. I understand that the new owners have nothing to do with the former owners, though they could have gone further to renounce the agreement. But to each his own. My original post actually says something kind & optimistic about Ruger's new offering.
  17. Hi Kath! I used to work there on detail for .gov about 1x per month. I would stay downtown in a plcae called "GreekTown" at the hotel Athenium. Then the rates went up & .gov would not cover cost of the Athenium. I would walk all around downtown detroit at night, but I never felt safe doing that. So I stayed 500 yards away in Windsor, Canada instead. Crossed the border 2x per day for work. Canadian dolars were .63 cents back then. It was safe & clean (the opposite of Detroit). Windsor is where you want to be. Avoid the tunnel at rush hour. Beyond that, Royal Oak out in the suburbs is nice. So is Gross Point.

    range hogs

They are the same way around here (other than the commercial indoor places in VA - they are usually OK w/ us). Why are we so disdained amongst other shooters?
  19. Recently sold 500 rnd of factory 223 to buyer in NC. I suggest you set up an account with Brown online. Then, leave the packaged ammo for them to pick up from your own home, WITH the sticker above attached. I avoided the inevitable argument with the counter goons at the Brown hub that way. The UPS website even prints a bar-coded shipping lable for you.
  20. I am certainly not a Ruger fan, but I agree w/ Patrick's observation that this appears to be an improvement over the P-89 9mm I once owned. Please to see additional brand competition among (soon to be approved) Production division guns. Not sure why they put a thumb safety on it though.

    Kate goes hunting

Maybe they can take supressors out from under the NFA as a compromise in return for the NRA & republicans supporting the Brady Bunch's bill to tighten NICS?? Seems only fair to compromise - and get something in return. Why not supressors? (we can still dream, can't we??). To bad the "class III lobby" in the US does not meaningfully exist.
  22. To hell with Costco also. We should have a list of these morons and make certain that those who support our right don't deal with those who don't! Agree 100%!!! Mods - can we maybe get a tacked list along the lines to the ones that Dillon used to publish in the Blue Press from time to time?
  23. Correct. The 1935 HP is the "new kid on the block" compared to the 1911, and these new-fangled guns were the last new design with John Moses Browning's input (he passed before it was finalized & produced). They are just too weak to take Major power factor ammo for our sport. There is a brand new design first brought out in 1975: the CZ-75. Turns out the CZs and their clones can take Major ammo & keep running like the energizer bunny. That is why there are IPSC/USPSA guns built on the CZ/TZ/Witness/Tanfoglio/Jericho/Bren10/ATM/Sphynx/Huglu/Springfield Armory/Colt/Armalite design (yes - all of those designs are based on the CZ-75). I realize you only want to shoot steel & power factor might be minor. But the HP is not a popular choice for that either. OTOH, the CZ wins year after year in Angus' hands. You might consider one of those guns, particularly a Tanfoglio, and locate a factory comp for it. Alternatively, a used CZ Champion in 9mm makes a fine gun for steel.
  24. I did not shoot the match but I've shot with Bob A in the past and he is always good company to have on the squad. Great job Bob!

    Clays

I Sschultz - that was almost my exact load when I shot a .45 STI Edge. I did not use the magnum primer you use (that might be where the soot comes from). I just used Winchester large pistol primers. To make that 200gr West Coast RN (now discontinued) fly to 170 PF, I have to use 4.5 grns of Clays. Very clean and soft.
