Looks for Match

Looks for Match (2/11)

  1. I'm new to USPA shooting and wasn't sure where to post this question, so if it belongs in another section of the forum please let me know. I'm thinking about purchasing my first gun for this type of shooting, I've been a bullseye shooter up to this time. I'm looking at the S&W M&P Core 9L without porting, however both guns I've handled have not had what I would consider either an audible or tactile reset. How important, or is it important, to have a reset that you can hear or feel? Thanks, Dr.J

    929 ?

What is the consensus on the 929? I like the idea of a 9mm revolver for steel, ICORE competitions, and general range use, but am apprehensive due to the number of quality complaints I read about on this and the Smith and Wesson forum. It sounds to me that the number of guns with problems outnumber the guns that are good to go out of the box, e.g., bad barrels, rough triggers, poor accuracy. $1,100+ is a lot of money to pay for a gun that you may have to pay a gunsmith to make right. In addition, 929 owners have not been complimentary about S&W's customer service. Am I being overly cautious or thinking incorrectly? I'd really like to purchase one. Dr. J
  3. Kswift - Thanks for your response. I feel comfortable buying a 9L Core not. Thanks again, Dr.J
  4. I'm looking to purchase a gun for shooting steel and general range use. I like the features of the M&P 9L Pro Series Core (without porting), but have read comments about poor accuracy in 9mm and a less than satisfactory trigger necessitating that it be replaced with an Apex system. The ability to mount a optical sight appeals to me due to my competing in Bullseye matches and familiarity with a red dot sights. I'm not looking to purchase a gun that I have to replace the trigger and possibly buy an aftermarket barrel to make it the equivalent of let's say a stock G34 or comparable XDS. I'd appreciate hearing from those who own or have owned an M&P, preferably the Pro series. Thanks in advance for your help, Dr.J
  5. I'm going to purchase a 9mm carbine (my first AR platform) and have narrowed it down to the CMMG MK9, Colt 6951, and full JP GMR13. The CMMG is attractive due to a good reputation and price (I can purchase one for less than $900), the Colt has a good reputation (about $1,250), the JP a great reputation but expensive (close to $2,000 if I'm not mistaken). I understand the advantages of going with a .223, but I'll be able to shoot the 9mm more due to range restrictions. I'd appreciate your comments regarding the advantages and disadvantages of these carbines. I don't want to buy at the low end and regret it. Thanks in advance, Dr.J
  6. Thanks to everyone for pointing out the advantages of the 5.56/.223 vs 9mm AR platform. I'm ready to buy and am confused overwhelmed might be a better term regarding which make AR to purchase. The posters on the AR15 forum seem to favor Colts. Would the Colt 6721 make a good first AR? I'd be using it to compete in carbine matches, informal target practice, and HD. I appreciate your help pointing me in the right direction. I'd prefer to purchase an entire rifle as opposed to building one. Thanks, Dr.J
  7. Thanks for the all your comments and suggestions. I understand that the Stoeger M3000 is not in the same class as a Benelli or Beretta in fit, finish, and quality of the parts, however, from the standpoint of durability and reliability how does it compare to let's say a Versamax, JM930. Are some parts prone to failure or breakage or is the difference more in aesthetics? Does Stoeger stand behind their product are parts difficult to obtain? Thanks, Dr.J
  8. I'll be in Phoenix March 17 to 21. What does the shotgun match consist of?
  9. Since I don't have either, what would be the best caliber 9mm or .223 and make gun for someone new to shooting in shotgun and carbine matches and home defense? What are the advantages and disadvantages of both? Thanks, Dr.J
  10. New to shotgun shooting. I'm relocating to Phoenix and am looking to purchase a shotgun for home defense, non-competitive clay target shooting, and would like to shoot in some Carbine and Shotgun matches. What would be a good "first shotgun," I know it won't be the last a Beretta 1301, Versamax, or something else? I'm looking for something that I'll be able to shoot as is and won't need work as soon as I buy it. Thanks, Dr.J
  11. I've found a club that has smallbore (.22 rimfire) ICORE and am looking for holster recommendations for my S&W 617. What are those who shoot smallbore ICORE using. Thanks, Dr.J
  12. I appreciate the comments. Would either of you gents have a suggestion regarding where to look for a used Blade Tech? I don't have the required 50 posts to use the classified section.
  13. Good Morning - I'd like help selecting a first holster for my S&W 625PC. Since it's thefirst holster I've purchased, I'm thinking that it might be best to get one that will be a compromise, let me compete in IDPA, Steel Challenge, and ICORE. After I shoot a bit, I think I'd be in a better position to know which holster I'd need for each discipline. Does that make sense? It appears that a Blade Tech DOH might fit my needs. I'd appreciate your comments? Thanks Dr.J
  14. I have a good supply of 700X due to my using it to load shotgun shells and was wondering if it is suitable for loading behind cast bullets (185 and 200 gr.)? I'm looking for a mild to moderate target load to use in my 625. I'd appreciate your comments. Thanks, Dr.J
  15. Good Afternoon - I recently purchased a new S&W 625 PC and really like the gun. I shot my standard bullseye load (4.0 gr. Bullseye, 200 gr. LSWC, W-W primers) to try it out and it shot very well. I'm looking for a load that I can use to shoot in IDPA and ICORE competitions (I'm brand spanking new to both.). I have 700X, Bullseye, and Titegroup powders on hand. What bullet or bullets would you recommend, cast, coated, or plated, 185, 200, or 230 gr. would you recommend with one of these powders? I'm looking for a mild to moderate, accurate shooting load. Your comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Dr.J
