  1. +1 to no lube on pistol brass. I don't do it. Never been an issue. Run brass in tumbler, dump in case feeder, repeat as needed. I do use Oneshot with some rifle brass and just wipe it off with a rag.
  2. Roll pins are frequently used in an application where the pin needs to stay still. The gap in a roll pin lets it compress. When the right sized pin is used, the pin is compressed a small bit when inserted and friction keeps it in place. If a roll pin starts traveling out it's hole, it is either tired and needs replacing or it was undersized to start.
  3. I have seen a guy break his own finger on a flubbed reload. You are more ahead of the game than you think.
  4. My first suggestion is try a sample of different factory ammo as a comparison. Second suggestion is magazine dissassembly with a thorough cleaning and inspection of magazine guts. Feel free to send me a PM if you need detailed contact info. We have several agencies here running the M&Ps in .40 and .45 We should be able to help you.
  5. A Beretta 92 FS with a slide mounted safety can be carried with a round in the chamber, hammer down, with the safety on or off. Upon chambering a round with the safety "off" the hammer will be cocked. Acitivating the safety will lower the hammer (decock) to the double action position and the safety can be left "on" or flipped up to "off". If a round is chambered with the safety in the "on" position, the hammer will follow the slide down to the double action position (decocked) The safety can be left on or disengaged. Most LEO manual of arms with the Beretta 92/96 family of pistols dictated that Officers load the weapon with the slide locked to the rear and the safety engaged. The Officer would then point the weapon in a safe direction and release the slide. The weapon is then loaded and decocked with the safety on. Most agencies in this area then moved the safety to the "off" position and carried them safety off as a double action A model that was decock only was also offered. I believe it was the 92/96 "G". The safety looked the same but was spring loaded. It worked as a decocker and went off safe as soon as you released it.
  6. I am not the one to ask about the rule book for the game, but you can drill and cut the existing front sight for a piece of fiber optic. It won't be quite as bright as some, as you don't have lots of room in that front sight.
  7. +1 on above...... mix pistol is fine all day long. You might find that your pistol doesn't like a brand, but that is rare. I mix .223 brass for plinking, but i get serious about rifle brass prep for accuracy work.
  8. A couple of thoughts..... First, does the problem exist with factory hardball? Always a good diagnostic in these matters. If no problem there, It's not the magazines and we can look to the load and the gun. If the problem does exist even with hardball a few suggestions. Is gun clean and well lubed? Are mags clean and are followers and springs in good condition? Nose diving rounds are frequently found with "tired" magazine springs. How old are yours? Pay close attention to mag catch. Is it broken/damaged/out of spec? A mag catch that is damaged or out of spec can hold the magazine just out of place, with it working part of the time, but not all of the time, but this is not a common problem. If the gun is in good order and the problem doesn't surface with factory hardball, look at your load. Is the loading generating less than hardball pressures? If so, the gun may be right on the verge of enough pressure to run and not to run. You might need to alter load or recoils spring setup. I imagine that your problem can be easily fixed once found. Good luck!
  9. beveling the edges of his finger would be silly....................
  10. Yes, Have a friend that bought one several months ago and I have tried it. Worked really well, but capacity is limited. I think it has a place in low volume work like precision rifle. I find that volume of pistol brass is too much.
  11. It can happen. I usually see people only engage the edge of the trigger when this happens...... The fingertip is then pushing against the side of the safety, putting it in a bind.
  12. Around here, the cheapest .40 factory stuff is Federal ball (classic?) in the purlpe and black box. It shoots fine, a little bit more powder fouling than you would expect...... The Win white box 165 grain shoots good, but not around here very much.
  13. This intrigues me....... Those of you that have tried it, what powders have been working well?
  14. A Glock 35 already has an extended release..... you put a more extended one on? Lots of G34/35 shooters have to relieve the mag release or swap back to a normal one because the extended one digs into the other palm....... But if it only happens with one mag, there you go. Replace it. Do be aware that most magazines at full capacity can be difficult to seat. Most Glocks will hold a loaded mag in place by friction even if the loaded mag isn't engaging the mag catch. The force of recoil then kicks it loose as you describe in your post. Try it. See if thats the problem.

    SWAT Wii

Glad it was just the Wii...... Normally dope raids involve boxes of porn in the house ................ just sayin................... I've heard.......
  16. I still suggest to just get springs now. A fresh spring will fix a lot of nose dive issues. New springs frequently push the front ends of followers up out of the mag. If it doesn't solve it completely, then I would look at followers. I have had good luck with Wilson followers as well.
  17. I actually just held one of the new wide body SA's today and it is CHUNKY...... Some folks say a Para is "square" in the grip. To me the SA was lots more "Square". It really weird feel to me. I would say check one out close. The weight wasn't nearly the issue to me as the grip shape was. The area under the trigger guard was especially uncomfortable. I have a wide body Para and while I can't say what you may prefer, the wide body SA was nowhere near the Para in comfort. Between the two you asked about, I would go STI, but it really comes down to what you like.
  18. The sky is blue, water is wet and 231 with a lead bullet is SMOKEY......... Just one of those things. I have shot a bunch of it and other shooters call it the black powder load..... but it is always accurate.
  19. I wish but I can only find 13 and 15 round mags?? which sadly are illegal in Aus. Hmm...I think I have one or two SIG 9mm 10 round magazines laying around that I will never use. Do you know if it would be legal for me to ship them to AUS? My x-5 is 357sig, and would require 40 cal in any case I would probably have to get an import permit etc but thankyou very much for the offer Pretty sure I have a 40/357 10 rounder laying around as well. FYI the 9mm P226 mags will work fine in a .40/.357Sig. The feed lips are the same, the small cutout at the back of the mag is a different shape, but the .40 and .357 work fine.
  20. Metal Sig magazines have the same distance between feed lips in 9mm and .40 mag bodies, the difference being in the shape of the cut out at the back of the mag. A .40 round just sits a tiny bit lower when it's in the feed position. In a Sig, 9mm and .40 can be run in either mag without a problem, just be aware that the witness holes for round counts don't work. +1 on the above posts that in a Glock, it CAN work, but doesn't do so reliably. The feed lips are a bit different. I tried and abondoned the idea.
  21. Excellent use of the word "pedantic"...... This place could use a little more edumacation...... +1 on the M1. I have an older H&K M1. Love it.
  22. While I can only speak for myself, I have run 6 of them forever and under less than ideal conditions. I remember looking at them with some of the same thoughts you have. Never, not once, ever have I had a problem. Both in 9mm and .40 applications. If you don't want em, send them my way. And while I'm thinking about it, I've never seen one that didn't work well. I'm sure that you will hear both pro and cons here. Just one opinion
  23. also look at "Handloading for Competition" by Glen Zediker. Some good stuff in there.
  24. Wolff Springs. Why do you need to change followers? Are they damaged? Last month I had some very tired .40 hi-cap mags that all got new wolff +10 springs (extended basepads) and they run like new.
