    Optic Ready CZ Shadow 2

After having two early generation Shadow 2s with dovetail plates, I got the Optics Ready version, which costs about 25% more than a new ordinary S2. Is the difference justified? Oh yes! I've been using a Vortex Venom sight, which was easy to install as the mounting plate came with the right screws enclosed. The proximity of the dot projection to the bore axis means correcting elevation for different ranges is much easier than for a dovetail mounted dot. Co-witnessing is a plus too. If I can nitpick the gun, the only thing that is not ideal is the scarcity of adapter plates for different optics (a CZ marketing decision, hopefully soon to be rectified by Toni System). As a side project to enjoying IPSC, I'm running my first Vortex Venom to find out its MTBF, using a stock recoil spring. Based on the result I'll either get an identical gun, or switch to SRO or another holy grail red dot (whose adapter plates I haven't been able to find yet). Should be interesting.

    Extractor issues TSO

My TS40 went back to CZ for this exact reason. Even after deburring the chamber and changing the extractor. I haven't shot Major Power Factor since.
  3. Rephrased: SIG sells lots and lots of guns (mostly non-sporting).
  4. The P320X5 Legion makes for an interesting case study. Most gunmakers that manufacture very successful CCW guns don't really need to cater for sportsmen's exacting needs to make a profit and keep a strong reputation, and SIG is in an enviable position among manufacturers of selling a gun that is so small that people keep losing them and needing to buy replacements. My guess is that they're not in a hurry to make the X5 Legion in the way that we would all want, i.e. with adjustable palm swells or multiple grip module sizes, GG level triggers and no chamber blowholes, because for every discerning sportsman there must be a dozen armed forces members, CCWers and forgetful pensioners.

    P365 For CCW

After ending three decades of uniformed service, I decided I didn't really need a service sized pistol for carry anymore and adopted a P365XL with a RMSc red dot sight for CCW. My usual holster choice is a Comp-Tac MTAC. Can't complain!

    TS vs TSO

For IPSC purposes, an important difference is that the TSO has shorter factory sights than the TS. This means that its magazines can be slightly longer while fitting the Standard Division Box.
  7. This was a 9 lb spring from Cesar. Am sticking to factory recoil spring for my new S2OR.
  8. I've heard reports that the SRO doesn't fit properly on a Shadow 2 Optics Ready with the RMR adapter plate. Please tell me this isn't true!
  9. With an 11 lb mainspring and weaker firing pin spring I got the DA pull down to 5.5 lbs without any polishing on two earlier S2s that I had (earlier series with the crackable frame). Those were the ones I broke red dots on due to a weak recoil spring sans buffer.
  10. Thanks for sharing your experience here and on YouTube. My S2OR has arrived with a slightly gritty trigger pull, which is something I've experienced in other S2s. Other than that I was also surprised that CZ doesn't provide adapter plates in the box - perhaps they know that the people who buy these guns are already CZ fanatics who will forgive them.
  11. Thanks Rob. Knowledge is power! My RMR 2.0s have been pretty good until now, but I don't use them for matches anymore.
  12. Guys, Last year I procured two used Shadow 2s and stuck red dots on a dovetail mount on them. First Delta Point Pros, then Shield RMSs. At some point in their lifetime these S2s had had reduced weight springs installed on them, for a 6 lb DA trigger pull. Now shooting them was great fun. Compared to the M&P 2.0 that I have left, sight picture recovery was faster, the SA trigger nicer and the gun was just as grippy owing to Lok Grips, but the problem was that the red dots only lasted a couple of thousand rounds before the electronics became dislodged and quit mid-stage. I've had no such trouble running red dots on the G17 MOS and M&P 2.0 with stock recoil springs. I miss the S2 and would want it back, if only I could have peace of mind shooting it. So my question to you lot is how has the reliability of your red dot on a S2 with stock recoil spring and buffer been? I'm asking because I'd rather shoot a familiar platform than explore a new one (e.g. SIG P320X5 Legion).
  13. What a lively thread! Thanks to everyone for contributing. I visited because I'm trying to decide between a Q5 SF and a P320 X5 Legion with a DPP on it. Until now I have shot an M&P 2.0 and a Shadow 2 with dovetail mounted optics. The M&P is reliable as hell but a slightly bouncy ride (much like the P320 X5 without grip tape), and has a 3.5" Apex trigger on it. The S2 was wonderful to shoot but I stopped using it because it busted three red dots in quick succession (two DPPs and a Shield RMS). I'm a tall guy with big hands and use the biggest palm swell of the M&P and LOK Grip palm swell bogies on the S2. So the question is which gun would be more promising after this discussion - a Q5 SF or an X5 Legion?
  14. When my CM was new it failed to eject factory (minor) ammo with the factory recoil spring. The gunsmith at the shop installed the lightest recoil spring he had (don't remember the poundage) and from that point on the gun functioned fine in this respect.
  15. Had a SP01 Shadow for 3 years and decided that my hands were too big for it and the gun hard to control in rapid fire. Took the TS route and now I have made full circle back to the Shadow 2 . With palm swell Lok Grips, the nice rough front strap and backstrap and slightly different gripping technique, I really can't complain!
  16. I'm a lefty and had similar problems two years ago. The culprit was the magazine design. The holes for the mag release to engage are asymmetric in terms of height. I had reversed the mag release so that I could hit it with my left thumb on the right side of the frame. The trouble was that this resulted in magazines seating lower and rounds having difficulty making it up the ramp. As soon as the mag release reverted to the left side my CzechMate worked perfectly. Just wanted to allow you to eliminate this as a possible cause of your woes.
  17. Used a flat forward aluminum trigger in a gen1 that broke at 1.75 lbs. Now I use a curved plastic trigger in a gen2 that breaks at 3.5 lbs. Both triggers have their pros and cons. The flat has negligible pretravel whereas the curved one is more forgiving on finger positioning.
  18. Broke my second M&P's striker in the same circumstances with a Laser Ammo insert (7 lb trigger pull). Incidents like these make me choose guns based on logistic support rather than mere sexiness.
  19. Shooters play their games, gun makers play theirs. It's interesting that after IPSC's Production Division rules now allow a vast amount of modifications, Walther comes up with a gun that has very desirable features for the division straight out of the factory. Of particular note is the new 3 lb trigger rule that this latest offering caters for. Looking forward to seeing other people compete with this gun.
  20. When I first had an M&P Pro I kept the stock trigger with an Apex competition kit and was quite content shooting it in IPSC Standard Division (Minor PF). Trigger broke at about 3 lb. Out of all the IPSC Production Division legal guns that I tried, the M&P fitted my hands the best. Lamentably I needed a sear setup with a 7 lb trigger to be legal for the division, so I refrained from competing with it (didn't stop me from breaking a striker by doing thousands of dry fires on a Laser Ammo cartridge an an attempt to get used to the trigger). Fast forward to January 1, 2019 - 3 lb aftermarket triggers are now legal for Production Division so I installed an Apex rear trigger with a 3.5 lb setup in my longslide 2.0 and am happy as a pig in **** shooting this gun.
