I'm here because: 1. I'm a huge gun advertising hype victim. 2. I like M&Ps. I've owned a few P320 X5s including the Legion, lots of Shadow 2s and CZ TS variants, and Bul single action raceguns, but I still gravitate to Smith's offering because of ergos and grip, despite it being more of a sporterized duty gun than a real competition beast. I've competed with M&Ps for years, currently with a 5" M2.0 CORE. Still find it difficult to justify moving to a Metal variant. I can't use a magwell in my shooting division and find the plastic mag release perfectly usable. Is there any point in switching from a 5" CORE to a Competitor besides the cool factor?

Indeed. After considering the pros and cons of the SCS, I went and installed a Delta Point Pro on my latest CORE. The SCS has a minor advantage of its operation button being activated by bucket competition holsters, to the shooter's annoyance. The DPP is still pretty decent for competition use.

Hi All, Started shooting M&Ps c. 2014 and started mounting red dots on them in 2018. Started with a dovetail plate mounted RMR, later progressed to a CORE + plate mounted SRO, before being side-tracked to the slightly more competitive Sig P320 X5 Legion platform (direct mount DPP). Now I'm interested in getting back into the M&P CORE (for sentimental rather than competitive reasons) and I'm pondering which optic to use. I've had good experience with a Holosun SCS sight on a Glock 19 that I use mainly for carry (including long-distance running) and I wonder whether the optic can be considered competitive when used on an M&P. Compared to the SRO (currently very difficult to obtain in my region) there's a tradeoff between window size and mounting height. The SRO on the M&P CORE has an added benefit that its lens doesn't get fouled up from gas discharged through the loaded chamber indicator port. A Delta Point Pro gets sooty after 100 rounds to the point of distraction. So should I mount an SCS on a competition M&P or stick to sights with bigger lenses? Does anyone have any experience with the SCS they can share? Thanks for your attention.

When I picked up a brand new CM, I replaced the recoil spring in the shop with something lighter before it could cycle 115gr FMJ. After that it was flawless. Just busted a slide stop every 10K rounds or so.

Traded a P365 XMacro that was too small for my hands to shoot well with for a Specter Comp. For carry I use a P320 frame, and it's a very sweet gun for that purpose. Haven't considered competing with it though. It runs fine with the 115 grain factory ammo available to me.

Am glad that this thread exists! Five years ago I had a Bul Trophy and I've just got another one. My main gripe with the Double Alpha dry fire magazine for the 1911 is that the mag body will push out the slide release lever (from the follower engagement tab) just enough to jam the slide when you try to rack the gun. The remedy is to back out the slide stop lever a bit. Other than that - another decent Double Alpha product!

Gen 2.0 M&P Cores have a plastic mounting plate for the DPP. Mounted one for a while but the factory screws that come with the gun have a thin point, so I ended up with a snapped screw stump inside the gun's slide.

Given that Toni System also makes mounting plates that fit the rear sight's dovetail, is it worth getting the Carry Optic model for the additional two holes drilled in the slide to have a slightly more forward mounting plate (and optic)?

For Carry Optics purposes, the M&P Core is every much the equal of the Sig P320 XFive. But when you add a one pound frame to the equation as in the Legion, you get more hit factor for your gun. S&W has wonderful ergos in the M&P 2.0 series but it's not yet coupled to a frame that gives a 45 oz gun that would be competitive with the most popular guns in the division. My guess is that S&W has enough market in the government and domestic civilian sectors to not have to take semiauto racegun manufacturing too seriously.

Since getting into IPSC more than a decade go, I've been buying and selling guns like crazy. My last carry gun was a Glock 19MOS Gen5 with an SCS red dot. I gave it away to a relative and have replaced it with a Sig P365 XMACRO. This is my fourth P365 family member gun and is a very interesting breed. Shot recovery and high speed is much better than on my previous XL owing to the length of the grip and comp. The gun is in a class of its own for shootability, carryability and stopping power (besting than my previous all-time favorite, a 9mm Bul Commander). I use an XL length grip for running and carrying the gun in a groin holster, and have a Sig Romeo Zero red dot. Currently I cannot imagine replacing this gun for EDC. It's really good. I'm imagining that it's legal for IPSC Standard Division but have no plans to shoot it in competition.

My guess is that if they'd make tungsten palm swells, they'd get the same weight delta as the difference between an aluminum and polymer frame. That said, they're in the business of selling guns, not upgrades.

Good question. As a competition shooter I clean guns more than absolutely necessary - in the case of M&Ps after a thousand rounds or so. As far as detail stripping for cleaning is concerned, I will do it only on an opportune basis, i.e., if I pull out the trigger assembly or sear block for another reason. Since switching to optics on CORE models, the number of times I have removed the extractor to clean it and its channel has dropped to nearly zero. The guns still run flawlessly though.

Very nice combo mule169! Does the gun shoot groups well in this configuration (polymer M2.0 slide on an aluminum M2.0 frame)? Just wondering if the barrel locked up fine.

Felt like resurrecting this old thread just to provide my 2 cents worth. I have a M2.0 Core and a M1.0 9L ported, and as mentioned, the M1.0 slide runs on the M2.0 frame, with the slingshot caveat mentioned. However I won't use this hack anymore because the M1.0 barrel gun won't shoot a grouping when mounted on an M2.0 frame. Probably due to incomplete lockup. So I've shelved the idea. By the way, I really enjoy shooting both guns. I probably won't hold my own in IPSC Open Division with a ported M&P but it should be okay for steel matches.

There's a gentleman who goes by the alias of GM26 who seems to do quite well in USPSA with a Glock 26.

I'm a lefty, and in my experience with early TSs and CMs, nosedives were common when I flipped the mag release to the right side for left thumb manipulation, for 20 round and big stick magazines. It didn't happen when the mag release button was on the left.

Per our firearms authority, i.e., the Ministry of Annoyances, reloading requires a "license to manufacture ammunition", which is unobtainable for mere mortals.

Here 9mm major is unobtainable - no reloading permitted. Some guys have old stocks of 9X23, which sounds like Armageddon when shot out of an Open gun.

Very informative thread - thanks! Had a Bul Trophy a few years back, and it was the most fun to shoot gun I've had. The only main drawback for me was the magazines then available in niner - some required a huge whack to seat them when fully loaded. Since then I've moved to red dots as and our underground range's lighting isn't fun for Senior eyes!

A question about FCU interchangeability: will the pre-recall FCU (which has no out of battery disconnector) function properly on a post-recall slide?

Hi folks. To date I've cut my teeth on the Gen1+2 M&Ps, and today shoot mostly the M2.0 CORE with an unported barrel (IPSC Production Optics Light Division). I'm interested in getting a ported M&P for occasional Open Minor use (we're limited to factory ammo and 9X19 115gr. is most common). My questions: 1. Is there much of a performance difference between the Gen1 and Gen2 ported M&P COREs? (5" bbl) 2. Is there much of a performance difference between the ported Gen1 9L and the unported M2.0 (the latter which I have)? By performance I mean general shot recovery to sight picture and being able to imitate Jerry. I'm asking because there's an imported Gen1 9L of 2018 vintage that I can get my hands on, and if I take the M2.0 route, I'll need to import it privately (major hassle). I've shot other Open guns in my time (Bul SAS2, CZ CzechMate) but the M&P just fits my hands much better. Thanks for any inputs guys.

Having co-witnessing iron sights may help in some stress positions, such as firing through a very low port or at very close range targets. Other than that, one should learn to pick up the red dot for every shot.
